Pixel 7 user here, i love this phone and the camera but as someone in India where we use mobile data heavily and 5G is quite new, the heating and battery loss on mobile data is a big issue. Google needs to fix this soon as even my previous a52s 5g which was one of the initial batch of 5g phones was not this bad on 5g.
@@rahulr_01 the phone heats up a bit while using 5g but the battery is ok atleast for me. the idle drain is too much however even on wifi it was less on mobile data it might be some app using wifi in the background
@rahulr_01 tbh it's not that bad now, it easily lasts me a day with moderate usage under 5g. I upgraded from the poco f4 (sd870) and tbh the 5g experience seems to be much better. My old phone was riddled with issues such as calls dropping, loosing internet connectivity under 5g, unable to hear the caller, etc but nothing such on my pixel 8. Yeah it does sometime get slightly warmer when say I am browsing the map when outside, etc but once the phone adapted to my usage pattern, the battery life is fine.
I recommend using 4G. Its as good if you are not doing downloads, then you can just switch to 5G for that period. I get about 7.5 hours SOT on 4G using casual apps, and that compares to 9 hours on wifi (Pixel 8 Pro). That compares well to rivals. As for heat, on 4G it is better, though not perfect, for example if you are also using the camera. I do not game on my phone so the Pixel is very usable for me especially as I live in the UK with a climate that will not push the Pixel's thermals. I recommend especially as pre-order deals made it a bargain after the trade-in.
Thanks for your informative review! More importantly, amazing t-shirt 💯 Still hesitant to upgrade though, just been using my p6a for only 1.5 years... All the features are highly enticing... I switched from the Pixel 6 to the iPhone 15 Pro and I regret it so much. The iPhone gets hot, the software is not as smart and comfortable. Dynamic island is buggy with some apps like MS Authenticator. And the worst, since yesterday its stuck on an not recoverable bootloop not even with the DFU mode and the apple configurator. Also every Google app is better (chrome, search, maps, recoder, photos, copying text from everywhere without screenshots).
I switched from an iPhone 14 to the Pixel 8 and regretted it. Its a good phone but there are alot of issues with it still especially with how hot the phone gets while charging (wireless its insanely hot). The modem thats inside the phone is also not very good and it sucks at holding a connection. Just a couple of things I noitced. I ended reutning the Pixel and going back to the iPhone. Maybe in a couple years when Google figures their stuff out I'll try the Pixel once more.
your daughter has taste... im glad she loves it because other's would go for something else which is almost overpriced while pixels do the same thing mostly better and for cheaper.
This is probably my 2nd favorite phone ever. The size of the phone is just amazing. Not too big, not too small. Battery for me is fine obviously who wouldn't want a lot of juice to last you days but im not on my phone all the time. Pics are fire, video has improved alot since the pixel 6. I love my pixel 8.
Coming from pixel 6, loving the P8. It fixed everything that annoyed me with the P6. The battery last me all day, the size is great, the screen is much brighter and the camera is amazing. Loving the AI features and the recently circle and search feature
Does it's support HiRes Wireless ? I'm used to used Pixel 7 & sound quality coming from my Sony WH1000XM4 was horrible Compare to my Redmi phone that's support HiRes Wireless it's was so much difference
I am enjoying the experience on this phone. I don't game and I use 4G LTE. I later discovered that it did not come with 120 Hz out of the box so I activated it, also activated auto brightness. So, I can comment on the battery (so good), network( no issues yet), display(so beautiful yet easy on the eyes, also it gets very bright), haptics(excellent) and audio(these are some of the best speakers I've heard). What I dont like is you buy a charger separately and skins on this device look bad after a very short time. Heating only 1st day, good past that.
Great so far, just two major concerns: 1) impossible to use without a cover, just too slippery, and with that the size is a little too big. Why they keep making phones like this?? Bring back the 4a style 2) I'm disappointed that despite the almost premium price (at day one at least) I won't get Gemini Nano.
@@MyBoyGohan Well, it is. Not a huge phone, but it's not a compact either, as the cover adds quite a bit of thickness. It's slightly bulkier and thicker than a regular iPhone. Not a deal-breaker, but I'd prefer something slighty slimmer.
@@dftfire Understandable, the video wasn't focused on if existing owners should get a new phone, but for potential buyers that do not have a Pixel 8 to see how its aged so far. Next time I will clarify that, I appreciate the insight!
@@dftfireI saw it more as just a long term review? This is actually useful for people looking to buy the phone now, especially as it's heavily discounted at the moment.
Still using the Pixel 6. Don't feel the need for 7 and 8. Barely use all the software shenanigans to justify upgrading. Will probably use the 6 till its end.
If it works for you it works for you but I promise once you try any newer phone you'll realize you indeed are underpowered I just purchased the 8 but I do love the look of the six pro
I recently upgraded from the 6Pro to the 8Pro... It wasn't worth it. They are barely different. Better ultra wide camera and better speakers. That's it....
I really enjoy my Pixel 8! Before I got it, I was a vivid Samsung user, but since the "Material You" UI I've been following the Pixel line-up. To the phone itself: it's great, but still has some issues that I wasn't familiar with. E.g. connectivity issues, whicht strangely only started to occur, once I turned my SIM into an eSIM. Since then it came to my attention that sometimes I don't have a 5G connection and had to re-connect. Also, the back glass is not that durable; I already broke that twice in the last few months. However, I really enjoy my time with the phone, as it is the most beautiful phone on the market imo. Additionally, I think more customization options are not per sé necessary as you already have more than enough options to make it feel like it's truly your phone. Also, the size is perfect for me, because I have smaller hands. What I wish to be better, is the night time mode of the camera, as under really low light the image noise is a little bit disappointing; other than that, the camera's amazing.
@@Pay4bb Battery? No issues. 5G is not reliable and I believe its carrier network issue. I had 5G issues with previous phones. On the Pixel 8 it sometimes doesn't connect when on 5G in certain areas. Maybe post paid customers don't have this issue.
Great Review😉 The thing I am still not sure about is does it do a better job than the 7A as far as camera is concerned ? Asking because thinking of getting one of them soon
Very nice video. I myself have the hazel Pixel 8 256GB and I enjoy it. Overall its fast for my needs, love the color and design of this phone. Yes its a little thicc but thats OKAY, tbh it gives it more of a feeling like I have something valuable something with substance.
It was a screen response nightmare for me. Way to often it just wouldn't recognize touch. I got an refurbished Iphone 13 for a while after getting fed up with it, which I used till the S24 came out. I got an S24+ on launch, which I love.
So far I've been loving it, the cons it might have haven't really affected me, I haven't missed the Pro exlcusive features and to be honest I don't care (yet) about Gemini Nano. So for me, The Pixel 8 has been holding up absolutely fine.
I bought my first Pixel device last year (Pixel 7) after many years of Samsung and Oppo. At first I was plenty happy even though battery life, heat, cellular and wifi reception were not as good. I still liked the Pixel OS experience and constant updates/features. However, over the last couple of months a bug has been introduced with Gboard and Android Auto (the KB becomes tiny) and it has completely disrupted my workflow as a delivery driver!!! No updates from Google and barely even an acknowledgement. Then, in the March updated Google decided to remove battery health information that tracks cycle counts and says it will only be coming to Pixel 8a and later. Gemini Nano is set to only work on P8P and higher (AI is one of the main reasons I went Pixel for Tensor). The whole experience is really starting to leave a sour taste in my mouth and I doubt my next phone will be another Pixel at this rate.
People who never used a pixel wouldn't know what it actually feels like. Yes it seems low on power compared to other devices. But there's something about pixels which just make using the phone a much better experience compared to other android devices.
agree. a hardware that get outdated (claimed by google themselve) not even 6 months. See how pixel 8 get killed, literally no gemini due to "hardware limitation", what the heck with a latest series that is not even 6 months.
It's an incredible phone. Once you use the AI features, you won't be able to go back. It's smooth, has amazing cameras, a beautiful screen, new features all the time, and feels fantastic in the hand. The battery isn't the best, but it's not bad. That is about the only downside I see that it has. Read consumer reviews and see how owners enjoy it. Avoid Reddit threads for any tech advice as Reddit is nothing more than a pissing match.
@OhPhuckYou hardware limitations after 5 months and no Gemini Nano. No circle to search festure for the $1800 Pixel Fold. Google is a scam artist company.
Personally I found the Google strategy really frustrating from a pixel 8 owner. The gemini nano update is a selling point and it's frustrating knowing a less capable s24 can afford it. Where's all the AI feature? Lost. On the other hand the festure drop raise the life quality pf this phone, for sure
The s24 honestly isn't less capable. The Tensor chip is already being shown to be way weaker for tasks. They need the cloud for almost all AI tasks, and i can turn off sending data to the cloud and use every feature except the internet page summary. The Snapdragon chips are just that more powerful. The benchmarks matter, because now theyre saying the Pixel Fold and Pixel 8 have hardware limitations and cant receive certain AI feature. Either Google is lying and trying to recover costs on the 8 Pro, or they genuinely cant promise quality updates for 7 years. Either way, it's not a good look.
Overall this has been a great phone but it does have a lot of bugs. Software features randomly don't work. Apps crash almost daily. And many advertised features don't work outside of USA. I'm in Australia and Call Screen only works in manual mode and then only after restarting the phone app several times. Thermometer for human use only works in US. We STILL have no Gemini Assistant (despite google stating it is available here). It's a shame only USA gets the full Pixel experience. I would not have purchased if I knew the phone did not come with all advertised features.
It's been only 5 months since it came out and he's asking is it still worth it ? !!!!! Bro I am using a 4a that came out 4 years ago and I am loving it
@najeebzafar241 No Gemini Nano and Google put a feature wall around the 8 pro to deny Gemini Nano to the regular 8. Thr funny thing is they said it was because of hardware limitations, but the Gemini Nanon is still 100× worse than the regular Google assistant with less features. Beware.
UNFORTUNATELY, Google hardware has consistently been lacking and they simply try to entice buyers with software gimmicks. There ARE better choices out there for the money.
I have been using the Pixel 8 for two weeks. And he annoys me a lot. Constantly glitches and heats up. No matter if I use wifi or mobile network. In everyday conditions, without games and a camera. I changed the screen frequency from 120 to 60hz and the situation became a little better, but not much. Currently, my four-year-old low-budget xiaomi is showing better performance than pixel :( Has anyone had this problem? How did you deal with it?
Ready to change it from the 1st day I owned it. Bluetooth connection issues in the car since day 1. 4 updates and issue still not fixed. Really want to like this phone but I need Bluetooth handsfree in my car. Back to Samsung I guess
you think you seriously able to escape the shit move from google? wait for base 9 and enjoy, google might do the same shit move again killing pixel 9 within 6 months, claiming "hardware limitation"
I swear this phone has been on sale longer than it's been full price since it's release. I'm not complaining tho cuz that made it dirt cheap to upgrade after trade in, probably the best value phone out there with the plus of 7 years of updates. I see no reason for me to upgrade for at least 4 or 5 years minimum if the phone holds up.
My current Motorola phone shattered the other day so I've been looking at what kind of deals were available with my carrier (Verizon) and expecting to get a more budget or low-midrange phone since that's what I've done for years. I'm not big on mobile gaming or anything, mostly just web browsing and TH-cam besides calls and texts so I've never needed a flagship or "plus" type of model. I found out that by upgrading my service plan to the next step up above mine (only 6 USD more on the bill per month for what's actually a significantly better plan than I had that I would have wanted anyway) I could get the Pixel 8 at no cost whatsoever other than the extra $6 for the new plan, I was kind of amazed because I was able to get a mainline model phone for less than I would have had to pay for a Pixel 7a or a Galaxy A54 5G (the other two options I mainly considered). I know the Pixel 8 isn't perfect but coming from a $300 budget phone it'll be a massive improvement, so that deal was crazy good.
I've had my (standard) Pixel 8 since October and have thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the device, mainly because everything I want and need in a smartphone is what the Pixel phones offer! That being said, and I don't know if you're aware of this because you neglected to touch upon it in your review here, but there's a pretty big controversy surrounding the Pixel 8 which the Google deciding to omit the device from this new Gemini Nano (due to 'hardware 'limitations', which seems like a bogus reason in my opinion)! It is in the Pixel 8 Pro and (I believe) in the Samsung S24 Ultra, both devices utilizing the exact hardware. This has infuriated tons of Google Pixel 8 users, seeing as the AI features are a main selling point with Google phones! It doesn't bode well for the long term usability! All of us Pixel 8 owners are hoping that Google reverses that decision and gives the Pixel 8 devices that much needed Gemini Nano.
I am really looking into upgrading from a still living pixel 4 (yeah you read that correctly) to the 8 series. The only thing im skeptical about is the fingerprint sensor since i usually have sweaty palms. Also i am spoiled by the pixel 4 face unlock. So is the optical sensor really that bad with wet hands? Someone with a pixel 8 pls help a brother out..dont make me go to the iphone because of this pls :')
I know I'm 3 months late but I have sweaty hands and I find the finger print scanner to be useable but it's not as reliable as I'd like. Sometimes you have to reposition your thumb but it's rare that it just doesn't work at all. I still don't understand why we moved away from putting a scanner on the back of the phone though, that's still my prefered location. I don't use the face unlock since I don't trust it just being a camera.
Coming from iPhones, I'm enjoying the premium feel. I got black with a Spigen Ultra Hybrid case, Spigen camera lens protector and a Zagg screen protector. Feels great in the hand for swipe typing and app shuffling. I haven't bothered setting up the Face ID because I enjoy the fingerprint sensor so much. I will say my biggest gripe so far has been the call experience. There are way too many times that the person on the other end of the line struggles to make out what I am saying. I think I'm going to get more use out of this Pixel 8, and then get a Fold when the time is right. I do miss my iPhone, but now that I'm fully all in with Googles ecosystem and don't rely on iOS anymore, it's an afterthought.
I upgraded to a Pixel 8 from a Moto G60S about a month ago. It's been ok, the Pixel's camera is much better but nothing really stands out as wow in my day-to-day use. I'm not liking the reduction in screen size 6.2"vs6.7", and the screen is nice but the colours and brightness of the screen were better on the G60S. Plus the battery, G60S lasted longer and charged faster. I really only got it because the Moto G60S peaked at Android 12, and the offer I took means I'll only be paying about £290 for the Pixel 8 which seemed a bargain.
Im still using my Puxel 6 Pro. The only issues in my usage are mobile and wifi connectivity and a decrease in battery life which i believe haven't been resolved with the Pixel 8.
My only complaint is the front glass has scratched easy for me. Other wise I love it! I got mine at Best Buy with a trade in of my iphone12. I got the pixel 8 and the pixel buds for 120 bucks lol. Killer deal.
i used to own a pixel 7 that broke, the way it broke was so heartbreaking and traumatising... luckily, i got the pixel 8 but my father was asking me if i really wanted to try something new like the iphone or get pixel 8. i was very sceptical. its now 1 month and 2 days since i got p8. looking at reviews, it looks like ive made a very good decision. (some people r still bashing me for not getting ip15pm and getting p8 instead... most parents dont even buy their kids ip15pm so...) i was supposed to get a p8p but unfortunately, pixels arent sold in my country so it took me and my father a while to find outside buyers that resell the phone here... atleast i got p8, better than nothing.
Such a great and frankly underemphasised point you made about the optical fingerprint sensor in the pixel being inferior to the ultrasonic one in the Samsung Galaxy. Honestly, for me, it's the final thing that needs to change for me to make the switch. Who else agrees?
Sadly I don't think it can change, as far as I understand the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner is patented by Samsung and probably can't be used by other manufacturers
i don't have so much struggle with the optical sensor so far. But maybe it's because so much better than the touchID on my business IPhone SE. I don't see a big need on a more expensive fingerprint scanner.
I dont recommend the Pixel 8, had it since launch. Battery and thermals absolutely sucks, makes the phone feel slower than a midrange phone and thats even with 5G deactivated! And all that for a flagship price. My battery last half a day with moderate use, Im dependant on charging at work even though I left my house in the morning with 100%, stuck at home for 1 hour waiting to get a charge to be able to go out etc. Phone is always hot, annyoing in warm weather and makes my hands sweat... Imagine paying for a flagship phone with flagship internals and marketed as such, but recieving a Samsung A14 in terms pf performance, and a toy drone in terms of battery. Boycott all pixels until Google decides to actually release a decent phone, these issues has been going on since Pixel 6 until now. They simply dont care because they can buy reviewers opinions in the end and wont compensate consumers once the phone os sold. My S23, one year older phone felt 3 generations ahead of this crap.
I wanted to buy the pixel 8 since it's release but the reviews for this phone is a mixed bag for sure. It seems like some of them work great while others are buggy and prone to issues. I'm coming from an I phone SE second gen > I'm used to Apple and I'm an old guy ( 54 ) > So for me to learn Android on this phone may take some time. I just bit the bullet and ordered a brand new I phone 13 from Apple for $629.00 > Total crap I know but I did. I can get the Pixel 8 right now on Amazon for $499.00 > But then again with the hit or miss problems with the Pixel 8 I would rather buy it from a local store in case I have to return it. I think I'm going to stick with the Apple after your comment here. I'm going to be doing some world travel here very soon and I just want a phone that works > I do not want to be travelling and trying to learn how to operate shit on the Pixel. I will leave Apple one day but not as of yet. And no I'm not an Apple fanboy as some might think it is just what I'm used to. Really wanted to get the Pixel but I think not.
@@yoot74 from the bottom of my heart, and I never tried Apple and I likely never will, do not go for any pixel 6, 7 or 8. Yeah…. The thermal issues honestly should be a dealbreaker and the main takeaway here. I’ve had past Pixels die on me while using Google Maps for driving directions. Also, my Pixel 5a’s motherboard failure made my phone a brick just after the warranty ended, which was a common issue. Never again buying a Pixel until they sort this stuff out.

I am responding here so I can find this easily later, I just ordered a Pixel 8 that should arrive in 3-5 days and then a few days after that (so I can get a feel for the phone and what it's like to set it up and use it) I'll come back and report my findings.
Honestly as a long time android user who is currently on iPhone, android and iOS have never been more similar. You'll have to adapt some muscle memory but they do most of the same stuff in very similar ways. The only things you'll miss out on are proprietary things like airdrop, facetime, imessage, etc. Unless you rely on those it shouldn't be that hard to switch.
Great video, as always. Appreciate that you always follow-up with these long-term reviews. Why do you think the Pixel 8 won’t get Gemini Nano though? Isn’t Google setting a bad precedent by skipping the Pixel 8 this early in its lifespan? Is it just a matter of the device having less RAM? Have a nice weekend.
THANK YOU. I was wondering why this phone was so insanely slippery. I just switched over from a Samsung S21 to the base Pixel 8. Honestly, not a fan. The lack of customization options for the phone are infuriating. Why can't I change where the back button is? Why can't I group my apps into folders on the App screen? I can't customize the app widget looks. Really missing these features from the S21 but I eventually decided to switch over due to Samsung's rapidly declining battery performance plus their honestly, shitty camera. Hoping I will learn to love the Pixel phones.
Can we please bring some attention to the scrolling issue on the Pixel 8 series? Twitter, the discover feed and so many other apps drop frames while scrolling and this isn't acceptable for flagship phones. This has plagued the phones since launch

Pixel 8 vs iPhone 15
Maybe your views about Pixel 8 not getting Gemini Nano due to "hardware limitations"?
i second this. @hemajith223
Pixel 8a... considering new 'a' series phones are getting bigger in size... Do we expect pixel 8a be smaller in size and packed with features...!!
@@allareddypraneeth8056dimensionally it will be similar to Pixel 8 cuz Pixel 8 is dimensionally similar to 6a and 7a.

Compare to my Redmi phone that's support HiRes Wireless it's was so much difference
Thanks! Where did you buy that skin/case? Please!
Great so far, just two major concerns:
1) impossible to use without a cover, just too slippery, and with that the size is a little too big. Why they keep making phones like this?? Bring back the 4a style
2) I'm disappointed that despite the almost premium price (at day one at least) I won't get Gemini Nano.
it's smaller than the 3a at least, which was my previous phone
Good news, you'll get nano for the base pixel yoo
How is that big???
@@MyBoyGohan Well, it is. Not a huge phone, but it's not a compact either, as the cover adds quite a bit of thickness. It's slightly bulkier and thicker than a regular iPhone. Not a deal-breaker, but I'd prefer something slighty slimmer.
Sometimes, I wonder if most youtube tech reviewers are just out of touch
What makes you say that?

Don't feel the need for 7 and 8.
Barely use all the software shenanigans to justify upgrading.
Will probably use the 6 till its end.

I just purchased the 8 but I do love the look of the six pro
I recently upgraded from the 6Pro to the 8Pro... It wasn't worth it. They are barely different. Better ultra wide camera and better speakers. That's it....
I got 8 because my 6 screen broke... I love that it is even more compact with same battery
how is the battery while using mobile data though as well as idle battery usage?
I love my Pixel 8. It's been the best phone I've ever had!
Well I'm a bit reluctant to make such a claim but its getting close. I'm equally impressed.
Do you have battery issues and 5g enabled?
@@Pay4bb Battery? No issues. 5G is not reliable and I believe its carrier network issue. I had 5G issues with previous phones. On the Pixel 8 it sometimes doesn't connect when on 5G in certain areas. Maybe post paid customers don't have this issue.

As of pic quality, not of a much upgrade. But the video quality is significantly better.
Very nice video. I myself have the hazel Pixel 8 256GB and I enjoy it. Overall its fast for my needs, love the color and design of this phone. Yes its a little thicc but thats OKAY, tbh it gives it more of a feeling like I have something valuable something with substance.
How is the battery life? I just ordered pixel 8.I had a pixel 6 which I returned because of awful battery.
@@dianeharlow1891 I think battery life on the 8 is very decent. I get about 5 to 6 hours of screen on time
Thick? I've never thought my pixel 8 was thick unless you're talking about the camera
I hear ya. What's the point of a Pixel if it doesn't have all the AI features
I've used it for almost a year now and I can say that it's very good, barring a few software bugs and a smaller battery than I would've expected.
What happened to Video Night Sight?
People who never used a pixel wouldn't know what it actually feels like. Yes it seems low on power compared to other devices. But there's something about pixels which just make using the phone a much better experience compared to other android devices.
Finally someone who understands.
agree. a hardware that get outdated (claimed by google themselve) not even 6 months. See how pixel 8 get killed, literally no gemini due to "hardware limitation", what the heck with a latest series that is not even 6 months.
I'm planning to purchase soon hope you don't change my mind😮
It's an incredible phone. Once you use the AI features, you won't be able to go back. It's smooth, has amazing cameras, a beautiful screen, new features all the time, and feels fantastic in the hand.
The battery isn't the best, but it's not bad. That is about the only downside I see that it has.

Here in India's BBD Flipkart Sale got Pixel 8 for $340. I feel quite content with the ROI I got. Any tips to make it last longer?
Exactly why I'm staying away from this phone and thank you. I need a phone that just works >>>

I have a Pixel 8. I was mad when I heard that too. That's why I'm going back to Samsung. It's always something with Google. I can't trust them!
Well it better be bc I already ordered mine 😂
I’m waiting for the Pixel 9 so bad
For $549 its ridiculously good deal
Nice skin, which brand??
Did you ever noticed scratches on the camera lenses??
Thanks for a decent review ✌️
I reckon it's dbrand.
The Pixel 8 for me has been an awesome phone so far. Does what it needs to for daily use and more.
Are there screen bumps still
Best pixel to date
My only complaint is the front glass has scratched easy for me. Other wise I love it! I got mine at Best Buy with a trade in of my iphone12. I got the pixel 8 and the pixel buds for 120 bucks lol. Killer deal.
Just switched to Google Fi. They are giving me and my wife a free pixel 8 with 2-year contract. Done and done!
i used to own a pixel 7 that broke, the way it broke was so heartbreaking and traumatising... luckily, i got the pixel 8 but my father was asking me if i really wanted to try something new like the iphone or get pixel 8. i was very sceptical. its now 1 month and 2 days since i got p8. looking at reviews, it looks like ive made a very good decision. (some people r still bashing me for not getting ip15pm and getting p8 instead... most parents dont even buy their kids ip15pm so...)
i was supposed to get a p8p but unfortunately, pixels arent sold in my country so it took me and my father a while to find outside buyers that resell the phone here... atleast i got p8, better than nothing.
Be careful. Google will misleading you about Softwsre support and AI features.
i don't have so much struggle with the optical sensor so far.

They instituted an extended warranty for the 5A for precisely that reason. When did yours brick? They replaced mine with a new 6a.
