I had the base 9 before upgrading to a 9 Pro because I just needed the extra camera for my kid. The Pixel 9 is 99% the same phone vs the Pro. The screen is BARELY different and even I couldn't notice the difference. If you can get the 9 on sale it's an INCREDIBLE deal.
This is the exact reason I got a 9 on sale over the 9 Pro. And I came from a Pro Max iPhone. I didn't feel the Pro was simply enough of an upgrade over the base model this year to warrant the price difference.
For real. The only thing that would make a difference for the Pro to 99 percent of people is the extra camera lens, and I don't take many pictures. The extra 1 gig of RAM and slightly higher pixel density are unnoticeable. $200 extra for that is crazy

I have the 9 pro. My partner has the 9. In everyday use it is basically the same phone. I find the increased resolution, higher brightness, higher RAM, battery size difference and refresh rate not noticeable. Since the regular 9 already has a high resolution for the screen size, a high brightness compared to competitors (and honestly not a noticeable difference with the pro), a 120hz refresh rate, 12 GB of RAM, and good battery life with a very similar size battery. Even as a pro owner, I'd say I would only get the Pro if you think you will make use of the 5x optical zoom telephoto camera. That is a nice feature that I can understand can sway a person to go for the pro. But if you don't.... I really do not see the point to pay such a significant price difference for essentially the same experience.
I 100% agree that Zoom Enhance should have been baked into the on-device Tensor/Pixel experience. As a former P7 & current P8 owner, I think it would be an excellent addition.
Bought a pre-owned 256gb P9 for $550 locally from a friend who was trying Android but wasn't a fan and it's been great so far, coming from my P6 it's been a solid upgrade. The 120Hz screen, WAY better fingerprint scanner, brighter display, better modem, new design & 7 year of software support were worth it for me! I don't game on my phone at all so I can't be bothered to care about the performance of Tensor in that regard, it's super snappy moving around the OS still. Definitely feels faster than the Tensor G1 in the P6 running Android 15. If I wanted to game on the go I'd just take my Steam Deck along lmao
