Picked up a 76 Johnson 35hp console setup. I have 90 compression on both. I have spark when I do the spark plug on boot eye test. I have new gas lines and a good tank from my good boat, I removed carb and dipped in carb cleaner for thirty minutes and cleaned it with rag and strong air compressor (I cleaned lots of carb so I put it back together 100%), carb is getting full when I use bulb, I even filled it up and drained it with the drain screw first thing after putting carb back on, I have tried slow speed idle adjustment screw from 1 turn, to 2 full turns and everything in between as small increments….Still nothing. No smoke, no cough, no sneeze, no sound at all of any attempt to talk…..I really thought it would fire right up after I took my time cleaning and seeing all things lined up before started it (compression, spark, caeburation) I was wrong 😢 Any suggestions for me? Thanks I’m advance!
It’s sparking from the end of the spark plug to the block/piece of metal? if it’s sparking out of the plug then that’s good just make sure it’s doing that on all cylinders - timing is a possibility but not likely since you’re not seeing any smoke or anything. I would maybe try to crank and spray some carb cleaner directly into the intake through the carbs and see if it does anything? If it doesn’t it’s most likely a spark issue then. If it does then it’s probably the low speed jet being still clogged. compression should be good but a good baseline for the adjustments is 2 1/4 turns out to start. I would also verify that it has consistent spark. Let me know if this helps or if you have any questions!
Best demo with description of starter Solenoid I've seen. Excellent video. Have saved it for multiple motors in storage. Thank You! Super helpful. Keep posting!
Two question ⁉️, can you just shut off the motor by just blocking the airflow from the carburetor, Second question ⁉️ in case ignition fail to spark what are the steps to follow to diagnose, like how to know if is the coils or the GDI /CDI ... Also can you explain to us why it needs to be run in water so it doesn't get damaged
great questions brian, 1) yes it is possible to shut off the motor by blocking the air intake to the carburetor, it will essential choke the motor out and stop but it’s not recommended safety-wise. 2) to diagnose a no spark, basically start from the spark plug, pull the plug out and check for spark, if not unplug the red plug on the harness and try again. if it does have spark the problem is somewhere in the key switch or controls. if it still doesn’t then move up to the coil, check resistance across two pins on coil and it should be around 500-800ohms. if that’s all good follow the wires off the coil to the power pack. check AC voltage on the pin on power pack going to coil wire, if you have AC voltage power pack is good and motor should be sparking, if you don’t have any voltage the power pack is bad. the last test would be to look at the wires coming off the stator into the power pack, test for ac voltage again on each wire. no voltage means bad stator and if there is voltage stator is probably good. if you still don’t have any answer comment back and I will help further. 3) these motors need to be in water at all times even when just cranking because the impeller is directly connected to the driveshaft and the driveshaft is directly connected to the crankshaft at all times meaning anytime the motor is spinning over the impeller is also spinning. the rubber impeller spinning with no water will overheat and melt or break causing the motor to not pump water and overheat when it is actually in the water. in this video i have the lower unit off entirely so the impeller wasn’t spinning but you’ll notice i didn’t run it for long so the motor didn’t overheat. hopefully this helps and feel free to comment any more questions!
15:00 "lets see if she will crank! HOLY $HIT! Well, she cranks!". 18:40 AAAHH I GOT FU-KEN SHOCKED! OBVIOUSY THAT ONE HAS REALLY GOOD SPARK! 20:55 LETS SEE IF THIS MOTOR WILL RUN, HOPEFULLY I DON'T EXPLODE IN THE PROCESS! LMFAO! Great video!
any johnson/evinrude controls with the red plug will work with that motor, im actually going to get back to you sometime in the next few days because i think i have the controls that came with this if you can’t find any and would like to purchase them
first thing i would do since you already replaced battery and solenoid, would be to either put a jump pack or jumper cable directly to the power stud on the starter and see if it moves, if the starters locked up nothing will happen but if it spins then you know your problem is somewhere from the battery to the solenoid. if it spins then check for 12v on the stud on the solenoid that goes to the starter. if it doesn’t spin then the starter is locked up then either beat it with a hammer or get a new one. let me know if you have any other questions
@buschfishin thank you bro. One more question the water is coming out from mid bottom n not the pee hose.....waht is wrong. I did fix the water pump already too.
if it had a pee hose but isn’t coming out try blowing compressed air up the tube and see if it clears the blockage, more likely than not there’s sand or something blocking it up there if it’s pumping water out elsewhere
@buschfishin hey bro so I mess up...I broke the shiftrod lever or linkage. The part where the shift rod lock into the pin...do you by any chance know where I can get that part?
Best tutorial I have ever seen, brilliant. (Manchester UK)
definitely excellent. i'm very glad you didn't set yourself on fire👍 Your pacing is spot on- that's important.
thank you! appreciate it!

thank you very much!! i really appreciate it
Great job! I just picked up a 79 35 horse and going to give it a try looking forward to making it run, thanks
Thanks! and good luck to you.
Enjoy all of that that youthful enthusiasm while you can!
Love my job and love boats! unfortunately it's not always fun 😂

Great job buschfishing I love to watch your videos you are doing great keep doing what your doing
Dang bro I have the exact same motor that I'm a star working on it this weekend. Your video helped out a lot
thank you appreciate it!
Nice job, dude! Sounds like a good running motor.
thanks!
I have 1978 35hp Johnson two stroke and I can’t seem to find a throttle cable or control box for it any advice?

@@buschfishin I would be Interested if you could Show me some pictures.
Extremely informative. Great video
thank you!
Hey bro my motor click but no crank can you tell me wat going on? I have a 1979 55hp evinrude
Outstanding job. I’d definitely do a follow up video with a complete motor and possibly a repaint or at least show it running on the water.
thank you! if i ever get the missing parts for the lower unit i’ll be sure to make a video!
1st time watching. Good Job. My friend just bought a 1980 35 like that one. have you made the video on how to service the top and bottom?
I haven't yet but it's something I can do as soon as I get the time to do it. What would you be interested in seeing?
Well done well done sir
Thank you!
More great instruction!
thanks!
Excellent video
thank you!
Where are you located?
