I'm impressed with how quickly the car parked. I've seen these auto park videos and usually, they take longer than I could do it myself. The ID4 did it relatively quickly. The ID4 is fast moving to the top of my list for my first EV. Thanks for the video
I’ve been a nervous reck about trying the self parking feature on my new ID4. Thank. You for doing this! I’ll be watching for more ways to usitlize the great features of our new car!
I think that in most situations where you would need the parking assistant is in between two cars either parallel or next to them, so failing because the are two spots available is not that bad of a thing, since in those cases I would just park myself.
Looks like it doesn't park using vision, but radar & ultrasonic sensors. Needs cars on both sides to detect the space and centers between them. If the car is only on one side, it doesn't see the line, doesn't see anything else to line up with.
@@theaverageev Weren’t 100% sure if they had to do that in the US I failed twice due to parallel parking The examiner picked the tightest parking space he could find
Nice demo mate. Thanks for sharing. I was curious how large was the spot you had it do the parallel parking. Like lenght of the car plus 3 extra feet? I would suggest recording this kind of video with the camera in the center of the dashboard. From this side angle, Many times it appeared as very crooked until we saw the result at the end
I would LOVE to see a video of your awesome wife using the self park features. I have a lot of anxiety when parallel parking and would really appreciate her take on if she uses it and whether she likes it....thank you! 😊
This morning i had my ID.4 park in my winter temporary shelter that is 11 feet by 16 feet and i did it very good.I must add i was pretty nervous when it happenned. But now i know that it can do it.Only question is if some of the cameras are dirty will the ID.4 try it?
I would prefer to pull in forward manually and then have the car maybe help me back out. So I'd rather have "unpark assist" I guess. I'm stubbornly sticking with the front in first method of parking. Though it's true that at most charging stations you need to back a Tesla or VW. Just spent a month driving in Korea, the Asian preference is definitely rear in first, and when the parking lots are so much tighter than they are in the US, rear end first is admittedly the only way to even get in. So that might be true in Europe as well. However in the US with our comparatively luxurious and roomy huge parking lots, it's just faster and easier front first. And with a simple rear camera and maybe the steering guidelines it's fairly easy to back out safely.
We have a 2023 ID.4 and find simply reversing into a parking spot using the camera is quicker than using the self parking system, which is much slower.
You should be aware that US parking lots have a lot wider parking spots than Europe or Asia. It would be interesting with a more difficult test with smaller spots, in the dark, in rain or snow.
I wonder which software version the car was equipped with. I have not tried the self park in my ID5 since the software was updated to version 3.7. Previously, it was on v 3.2. I'm not sure if the ID5 is available in the USA, but it is an ID4 with a coupe shaped rear.
I have the 23 ID.4 Pro RWD and I have not once gotten it to even find a parking spot. Mine is supposed to have "parking+". So I find the fact that it works so well for you puzzling. I guess I need to speak to my dealer.
I'm interested in buying this car. I know only the most expensive have the aerial camera view, but does the Pro have all around proximity alarm when gets close to anothwr car?
I used the self park feature on my 2023 ID.4 for a while, but I found it took too long. Now I use the camera and just park very easily myself. This feature is just a gimmick and I will likely never use it again.
It is pretty much useless. Totally agree. Parallel parking isn’t terrible though. Still need to try out self parking on my new equinox. I attempted it once and it didn’t start well so I gave up! At least the ID.4 wasn’t that bad!
This is only for the 2023 models. They have additional sensors that allow the car to park itself! I believe that the German cars are the same parking-wise, but I don't follow the German specs that closely. Sorry!
It does not! We have the Pro Model. That was supposed to be on Pro S Plus, but I thought they ended up removing that from the trim? Or maybe they left it in? Not too sure about that trim!
@@theaverageev so I did, try this park assist on my brand new id4. I just bought it last week. And it does not work. Any suggestions? Software is all new updated. I drove slow right passed them. Never picked them up.
You call that a pass when the car is half way out of the parking compare to other cars you can clearly see how far away it parked from the white line in the back up camera

So glad I could see someone else doing this before I tried mine! Thanks!!
Glad I could help!

Your personality came out in the most complete and genuine way! I love it! Is the ID 4 courteous!? Hahaha too cute!
Very good video. Just tried it for the first time with ID4. So much fun!
Thanks for watching!!!
I appreciate your videos I am in the market for an ID 4 pro as we speak. Your videos are helpful.
I have an appointment for Friday.
That was cool. I saw a video where the driver had it park in their garage. It failed a few times.

True! Unusually only use it in real life for parallel parking.

Unfortunately, VWs are not equipped with visual detection
Would love to see a video on how to save your home parking maneuver!
Me also!
My id4 did hit the curb when I did parallel parking once so far. Luckily enough big wheel did not get damaged, but I can only trust it 50% now.😂
That sucks! I have never had that experience fortunately. Thanks for sharing!
In the U.K. it’s part of the driving test to park a car
If you can’t park the car, you won’t pass the test
That’s the same for the US. I had to parallel park and front end in park!
@@theaverageev Weren’t 100% sure if they had to do that in the US
I failed twice due to parallel parking

It always does that even in a tight parking space it'll park way close to the car in the front for my liking

It’s not really looking at lines, just parking between cars
Correct
It’s been doing that for years, it’s just gotten better at detecting spaces.
I would LOVE to see a video of your awesome wife using the self park features. I have a lot of anxiety when parallel parking and would really appreciate her take on if she uses it and whether she likes it....thank you! 😊
I will speak to her agent! I think we can make that happen!

I almost exclusively pull in front first when I park!

Than is certainly strange!
Our diesel Tiguane could do this 12 years ago
For some reason my ID.4 almost never detects spots and will detect things that aren't spots as a spot... It's got some improvement to make
Same with us you have to go extremely slow sometimes, which is pretty annoying. Easily fixable with software!
I'm interested in buying this car. I know only the most expensive have the aerial camera view, but does the Pro have all around proximity alarm when gets close to anothwr car?
Yes, it has sensors all around and will let you know when you are too close. These are the sensors that are used for park assist!
I used the self park feature on my 2023 ID.4 for a while, but I found it took too long. Now I use the camera and just park very easily myself. This feature is just a gimmick and I will likely never use it again.

It can also take you out of a parking spot
Does the 2021 Pro S have this feature?
It does not… it has to have side sensors that were not on the 2021 Model. Sorry!
Does it work on the older ID.4s (2021, 2022) or just the 2023? Also, is there a difference in the U.S. and German made cars?
This is only for the 2023 models. They have additional sensors that allow the car to park itself! I believe that the German cars are the same parking-wise, but I don't follow the German specs that closely. Sorry!
Can it reverse into angled parking spaces?
I've never tried. I don't think it can? But maybe some others can chime in in the comments?
Does your car have the 360 camera feature?
It does not! We have the Pro Model. That was supposed to be on Pro S Plus, but I thought they ended up removing that from the trim? Or maybe they left it in? Not too sure about that trim!
In narrow parkings, could you move ID4 using smartphone, without driver on board?
Unfortunately, you cannot do that feature. It would be interesting to see if they add that feature to future MYs.
Does it have to be between two cars? I just bought one. 2023 couldn't get it to work.
I have noticed a higher success rate when between 2 cars since it uses the sensors and not a camera. I have rarely had a successful park with one car.
@@theaverageev so I did, try this park assist on my brand new id4. I just bought it last week. And it does not work. Any suggestions? Software is all new updated. I drove slow right passed them. Never picked them up.
But can you make the car back out on it's own if the doors are blocked in
You cannot. I know that some Teslas and Hyundai Ioniq 5&6 vehicles can. There may be some others.
You call that a pass when the car is half way out of the parking compare to other cars you can clearly see how far away it parked from the white line in the back up camera
It passed because it was within the parking spot without intervention.
Spinning the front wheels that fast while standing still (th-cam.com/video/ZHsJZ1jChyk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jPkDnqkXkF88gbOv&t=274) will eat your tires...
Why are you holding the wheel it does it for you
Covering the wheel for safety?
Had this car for a while
Big mistake
Anything over 120 KM per hour drains the battery really fast
That’s true of any EV? Battery consumption is exponential and based on the coefficient of drag and surface area of the vehicle.
