I have the exact same experience. I used to have a 2021 Passat GTE with full tracel assistant and it was great. I now have a Model Y and i have the same issues as you mention. Also, the passat handled roundabouts well, which we have lots of in Norway. The Tesla has no idea amwhat to do with roundabouts and just goes full speed into it if there are no cars in front.

Very informative video, would love the same test for other brands! My Volvo XC40 i.e. has a resume button for ACC which I love, but it brakes at 200m distance for a truck driving 90km/h on the highway which is super annoying. And this is on the closest distance setting for ACC.
It also requires you to put force on the steering wheel every 10 secs when Pilot Assist is active, this makes it uncomfortable imo. Props to VW for doing it right!
Pilot Assist also keeps a bit right of its lane on the highway with no ability to adjust this.

From the U.S., I find autopilot works really well. What was atrocious was the FSD that I tried for the free month we all got. I felt like Elon was trying to kill me. We also got access to advanced autopilot which has auto lane change function, and that worked well too. I don’t think FSD will ever come to fruition using solely vision system. It’s just too unsafe.

@@binflydushy After years of VW cars (VW Passat, Skoda Superb, Skoda Kodiaq) I wanted something new and the central display/OS of Tesla cars is buttery smooth. That I like. My other choice was ID.7. That was much bigger. I want to give the car to my daughter after a year or two, so I decided to buy smaller and cheaper Model 3 LR.

100% agree with your comments on the Tesla autopilot, coming from previous car (Vauxhall Insignia) and my spare vehicle (Seat Leon) one with travel assist and the other with PACC, I found I trust them much more. I have experienced the exact same situation in my Tesla with phantom braking and when the road lines do something funky the car reacts weird trying to decide which line to follow, this can be quite scary if your traveling quite quickly.
The problem is all in all I really like the Tesla Model 3 2024 so I hope a software update will sort out these inconsistencies and erratic behaviour.

Phantom braking was WAY more frequent when cars used radar, and it has improved a lot both in frequency and strength, but it is still there. And yes, when road lines disappear, get ready for manual control. Better still, might you know in advance, take control of the car.

I would say my 2020 model 3 has 2 types of ghost breaking; false positives where it somehow thinks there is danger or a change in road condition when there isn't and just starts to break at some random moment, and annoying training data where it decides to slow down 2 to 10 kmph because of a slight curve in the road or people feared there might be a speed trap behind the gas station so the car learned to break there for no good reason and it is always at the same spot.
I have basic autopilot and it is terrible in practice because it switches off with every lane change and I have to double tap the right stalk twice and set my speed every time and it is just more cumbersome than normal driving so I almost never use it.

With the earlier M3, MY (with stalks), depress the right stalk down and hold for a second or two to do the same: set TACC target speed to current speed limit. No idea how that will work with stalkless Highland.

If I remember my time driving a Nissan Leaf 40kWh with ProPilot in Bayern, most German country roads have the luxury of painted line on the road edge. How is VW TravelAssist on roads that have only centre lines and not well defined edges (no painted line, uneven gravel to bitumen (black road tar) surfece, broken, crumbled road edge)? My Tesla Model 3 SR+ (2019) handles Australian poorly marked rural roads really well. It does not handle poorly painted roads (patched road with missing lines and poorly designed lane merging markings).

Seems like you are correcting/assisting it alot in the VW. You dont need to do that in the Tesla, as it actually will steer completely for you, as long as it knows you are there. I usually just rest my hand on the nine-o-clock position of the steering wheel, and that keeps it happy.
An update is comming, that will remove the need to touch anything at all, as long as the cabin camera can see your eyes, and knows you are watching the road.
So at that point, Tesla will be way ahead again. Lets see if the rest then copy that idea. Probably, if they have good enough cabin cameras.

You do have a point. but your example only works if you stay on same speed road. if the road speed changes / you change road with new speed.. you will resume and the car will be at the wrong speed for the current road. Example, set speed is 70mph and the road has changed to 45 mph (speed trap), your VW will speed up fast to 70 mph.

Tesla autopilot in Europe is not the real thing. It’s sucks like it used to be in US several years ago. Good news is that hopefully Europe will experience the real FSD soon if regulators allowed.

isn't the highway driving very similar or the same ....what version is the highway driving software in EU and USA ....they were going to be merging the highway and the new city driving method since version 12 or whatever it was but I'm not sure they have done it yet
I don't think the regulators have much to do with it it's just driver assist feature u have to constantly watch .....they just don't have as much data as usa and some stuff r a bit different and it's not a priority for them

Tesla Autopilot is an old software in Europe nowdays. It hasn't been heavily updated for almost 5 years. And the reason for that is cause Tesla is pushing all into FSD AI training in the US, and once that software will be ready, and UNECE regulations will allow it, they will release an update to the non US cars which have the FSD capability option purchased. That ""ADAS"" is Years and Years far ahead of any other car company. And the cool thing is that every Tesla on the road produced after Oct 2016 is able to drive itself with FSD. And having a car with such a powerful potential that runs a limited software due to local regulations really pisses me off.

    • @jellyd4889

Amazing that European legacy cars can do that AND in parallel be working on FSD, like a gazillion suppliers. They have 10 years to perfect it before it will be allowed.

Autopilot/FSD v11 had Ghost breaking. Solved long time ago. Not a problem with FSD 12.x
    They solve two different problems.
VW - is fine with lane assist. While Tesla solves self driving. Can be wrong fully be thought as the same thing. But it would like saying a bicycle and a car is the same. They are both vehicles.

You don't need resume if you have EAP in Tesla - you sinply let the car change lane.
And the cruise control in MEB is really bad as it in practice can only change in 10 km/h intervals.
And the MEB ghost brakes too as it accidentally identifies an 80 zone or even 60 zone on a 130 km/h motorway.... that is the same as ghost braking. Number of Ghost brakes are the same.
What you might not realize is that the ID cars qre developed in Germany for German roads/signs - the Tesla is american.
But in Denmark they both fail.

it is like the window open/close keys or the missing light for the touch keys (which they 4 years later have changed).
The car UI is designed by somebody with very bad hangover.

I just checked - no it doesn't work. The way the 'key' is made you can accidentally push it so it takes of 1 but the next time it takes of to the nearest 10 km/h and sometimes 10 km/h right away.
My wife has a Model Y now and then we have this so far un-sell-able id.3.
