ID.4 Park Assist Almost Gave Me Another Heart Attack...But it Sure is Cool!

- I demo the park assist feature that comes with all 23 ID.4s. The car cuts it close in order to make it into tight spots. I gave the car a little extra room since I had not learned to trust the system the first few times I used park assist. It parks much faster than I can, but it is going to raise my stress level until I get use to the speed. Yes I sound like an old guy. One person's fast is another person's slow.

I am glad I am not the only one that forgets to close the charging door. One of these days I will be taking it off on the side of the garage as I back out.

I agree. It parks very quickly. Mine offered to self park in the garage, so I cautiously let it try. It did it, but boy did it come in hot 🔥! Haha. It’s enough to make your heart skip a beat

Question Bob: I have a 2023 ID.4 PRO AWD. I've found that if there are two spots open right next to each other it doesn't see them. Maybe I've not tested it enough, but does the park assist only identify individual spots that have cars around them?

It does!
Does it have be parked by itself, before you memorize spot for future memory parking, or you can simply park as usual and then memorize the spot?

during the auto park procees, if a car is coming will the ID4 see that and stop? or you have to break manually and take over?

is this feature only in 23 model? I bought a 22 model(made in Germany), but it doesn't have this feature.
Subscribed. Two questions: How does it behave when there’s something in “it’s spot”? I assume of course that it doesn’t continue parking but curious what it does do. Also, how is the memory function on curvy driveways? My in laws have a curved driveway that goes up a hill, curious to see how it handles something like that.
Brakes go on and it will end the process.
We have recently taken delivery of our 2023 ID.4. I am trying to get it to remember its garage parking spot but it doesn't seem to want to do it. I save the spot when the car is in the correct spot in the garage, but the next time I try to get it to slowly go into the garage, it quits on me! any advice?

I just a brand new id4. And I cannot get this feature to work. Went through Walmart parking lot. I actually seen a car space and another car drove slow. And it didn't pickup the space any ideas?

I noticed when the car backed in from the street it appeared to leave more room on the driver's side. Is this by design? Great content btw. I prefer your ID4 videos over some of your competitors ;-)

Love the E-tron, but he ID.4 is a good value. If you want leather and a superb interface, go for the Audi. Also, not built in the U.S.A.

Dave, German made 22s that were shipped to the States do not have park assist. Only in the 23s. I know people who have watched the European models on TH-cam and thought their 22 would have it. Often times, VW gives us new stuff after it is released for a year or two in Europe.

Using self park is like handing the keys over to noob driver. I’ve got it on my 23 Pro S Plus and in my experience it will brake hard and suddenly, it feels like it’s hit something. It takes forever and doesn’t instill confidence in its ability.
I can't get mine to park in our garage to save my life. It tries, but I have to stop it before it hits the side every time. Seems like single car doors are too narrow for it to handle.

Does it always have to back in? No turn signal?
You choose the direction of parking on the screen.
I've used the self park feature 3 times; the first 2 times, I was hesitant, but the ID4 parked it without any issues. The 3rd time, I had to stop the car and take over. BTW, I was angle parking.
The issue I had was the car trying to find the correct spot to pull into while angle parking. Glad you had success!

It would help if you showed us the screen when selecting whatever function you are using. My id4 doesn’t have self park and it’s a high spec car. ( not sure which as it’s so damn confusing). You need to try harder to fill your viewers with confidence please. I’m not sure if you have used the self park function much in many ways. What happened at the end? Friendly Dance? Rather bizarre.
What a hassle. If you can’t park. You shouldn’t drive.
