    Michelle was our guide when we visited Rocky Ridge recently. She was wonderful, so down to earth and friendly, and SO informative.

    I have toured the Ingall's home area in southern Minnesota but have never seen this house before. I would love to visit and tour. Thanks for sharing!!

      Oh yes, Walnut Grove is a lovely place to visit. We just fell in love with Rocky Ridge Farm and can see why Laura and Almanzo loved it for the rest of their days! This is just the first of several videos we shot while visiting...I'm glad you enjoyed it. Filming or photography is not permitted inside the home, so I'm so blessed to have been provided this opportunity....stay tuned for more videos 😀 Thanks so much for watching 😀

      I'll be watching for your other videos here. I lived in Mankato, MN for many years so I am very familiar with Laura Ingalls and her life.

    Rose was also very skilled in needlework. I’m wondering if there’s a possibility Laura purchased the kit for Rose to complete. My mother had purchased craft kits for me to complete for her in the past. Just a thought.

    • @countrymamamusings7701
      @countrymamamusings7701  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’ve had that very same thought, Carolyn! After all, Rose even published a book about needlework! It’s something I wanted to follow up with next time I get in contact with the staff there. Also wondering if Laura purchased the kit bc of her and Pa’s appreciation for the works of Tennyson and maybe it reminded her of The Lady of Shallot ??? Otherwise, Knights and Ladies seem so out of place, don’t they? Thanks for watching and for your comment… that makes at least two of us thinking along these lines 😊

    What a neat textile discovery and provenance! I have admired that piece for years and (like she said) thought it looked European so again thought it was probably brought/bought by Rose on her travels. The pattern “Knights & Ladies” makes sense. I would also be interested in a list of the patterns and clippings from the Kansas City Star newspaper….those patterns were all the rage back in the 1930s-40s. Thanks again!

      Isn't it something? I have since come up with a couple of theories and need to reach out to the Docent to get her thoughts on them! If I do, I'll be sure to post an update! Thanks for watching 😀

    G'day Alicia.
    I can just imagine how excited she was when she realized what she may have just found. Then the one week wait for the curator...
    Very cool how she mailed in the dollar and got the whple kit.
    All the best.
    Daz.

    Shouldn’t it be out of the sunlight and in protective glass (maybe it is) ? Such an amazing find!!!

    • @countrymamamusings7701
      @countrymamamusings7701  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question! I will share with you that it seemed the drapes were usually closed in this room, but Michelle did open them so we could have better light for filming. Although I hadn’t thought of why this historical find was not behind glass, I can attest that the paper pattern , itself, IS behind glass in the museum. I’m confident the curators have taken into account every element of what’s needed to keep these treasures safe and sound for generations to come. But, pondering you question makes me wonder (theorize, ponder, speculate) that perhaps placing this needlework under glass may, in fact, be detrimental as Rocky Ridge is located in a region that experiences fluctuations in humidity throughout the four seasons. On a hot, muggy day, it may create a perfect environment for mold/mildew. Again, I’m just thinking outside the box as to the whys and what-ifs. Michelle has chimed in on this video in the past, so hoping she’ll see this and chime in 😊. Thanks for watching

    What a shame the camera person could not show us the tapestry closer up so we could see the work.

    • @countrymamamusings7701
      @countrymamamusings7701  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, the areas are roped off to protect the integrity of the items within the home. Filming is not usually permitted, but we were given special permission by the museum director, so we’re quite thankful for that. We wanted to make sure we were being respectful of the privilege to have this interview with Michelle. If you’re ever in Mansfield, Missouri, this really is a wonderful visit. I have more videos to edit, yet, so please be sure to stop by again! Thank you so much for watching. 😊

    Are there any people still living who knew Laura personally ? She's been passed on for close to 65, 66 years. Maybe there are still a few. I'd like to visit her home. But, I don't like to travel much anymore. So, I doubt I will ever go. It's a long way from where I live.

    • @countrymamamusings7701
      @countrymamamusings7701  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hello 😊. While speaking with this historian, she did mention that there was one living resident of the town that knew Laura. I personally met a gentleman that knew Laura when he was a little boy. He was their neighbor. That was 10 years ago. ☺️. Thanks for watching…there will be more videos from this trip, so stay tuned! 🥰

    It looks like the evil queen from snow white so that's neat how she thought it was similar to snow white as well.
    My first thought was Angelina Day, her mother in law who was said to weave beautiful things.
    I wonder what stories she saved from the newspapers. Her mother taught her well in how to sew.

    Back when it was radio you listened to in the evening, what better way to entertain yourself than needlework. Knitting, sewing, embroidery were what women and girls were raised doing. Men repaired items or whittled. Idle hands was the devil's workshop was taken to hart.

    Fantastic video! Did you take any other photos or videos inside the houses?

    • @countrymamamusings7701
      @countrymamamusings7701  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! It was quite an enjoyable time! No, I did not take any more video or pics in this house as I was quite respectful of the rules; the Director and Docents were so accommodating, and I was SO happy to have been allowed this content. I do wish I had video of Laura's diningroom as it pertains to a story I will share later... and I wish I had video of her China on display in her kitchen...but, again, I was respectful. :)
      I was permitted, however, to take a bit in the Rock House, as well, (video yet to be edited) and was granted permission for some content in the museum. I realize some go ahead and video without permission, but I really wanted to be respectful.
      I have lots of content from our trip to go through, yet, so I hope you'll stop by again :) Have you been to these wonderful ttreasured sited in Mansfield?

      Hi Laura! That is a very interesting observation! How clever! I was wondering if it was, perhaps, somehow tied to her love of her Pa’s Tennyson book of poetry and the Lady of Shalott! Oh, how I’d love to know the answer! Thanks so much for watching and for the comment 😊
