My book club at El Toro Public Library in Lake Forest, CA, just read Prairie Fires. We had a lot opinions about how much time Laura's daughter Rose (who appeared to have mental health issues) was given in this biography, but it was well written, and we learned so much about Laura Ingalls Wilder, an admirable woman. I feel that it was a great and memorable read!
I think Rose was a very angry person. I have read her most successful book, LET THE HURRICANE ROAR. It is a good book, but the writing style is nothing like the "Little House" books. I have never believe it was she (Rose) who wrote most of the books in that series. Perhaps she pushed her mother to write them, helped to get them published, etc., but actually write them, no.
Its funny that you should make that observation about Rose. I'm reading the book right now and I feel the same about the time given to Rose's account, however I see the connection that Rose played in her mothers success. Laura would not have become what she was without her daughters connections. My conclusion that you have is the same. Wonderful read. I especially like the historic narrative .
