An-T M that is a silly statement. Do you read the newspapers or watch the news...local as well as national? The vast majority of the rapes, murders, pedophile cases, drug cases and other terrible goings on are committed by plain non Hollywood people. The only difference is the publicity factor. There are thousands and thousands of people in the movie business. Families like Ron Howard’s...three generations of actors who have lived their lives, worked hard, stayed married and raised good kids. Guess what? Their stories don’t make the news do they? Nobody makes the news for just getting up and going to work every day, paying the mortgage and going to parents night at school. Stay in the theater at the end of a movie sometime and read all the names of the hundreds of people who worked on it...99% of them unknown to you.

@rach d Yes, I have a great book about Laura and quite a few changes were made, for instance she never mentions that she had a little brother who died, or the year or so they lived in Iowa I believe. What is so great about the books , though, is their historical authenticity. They accurately reflect the values of the times, how people talked and thought and behaved. That, to me is the greatest flaw of the tv series. I can accept that they added characters and had all kinds of things happen that didn't.. that is tv. What I really hated though was the way they changed the characters. They did not behave at all as people would have in those days, certainly not as Laura described them or others writing about the same period. They were just 20th century people in costumes. For one example in many, Pa would never have cried like he did in so many episodes. Men just did not do that. They hardly do now, think of back then! Even women were ashamed to cry. Ma was always saying " For shame!" When Laura let a tear escape. She used to squeeze her face hard so nobody would see she was crying. She said " For shame!" to little Grace for crying. I know it was the 70's, I was 17 when it came out, but it bothered me then as well. I wanted to see the characters as I knew them from the books. As it was, it was soppy and sentimental and so lacking in authenticity I could hardly bear it. I watched many episodes because the kids I babysat did, so I had little choice, but I spent most of the time fuming!

@rach d There is a whole series of books about Rose that my daughter and I enjoyed reading together. Of course they are mostly fiction, but the author was a friend of Rose (actually the last books wriťten by his daughter after his death) and he said they are based on stories she told him. Like the Laura books, they are at least historically authentic, and reflect the times, which are changing rapidly from the world Laura knew. In the second to the last one she goes to live for a while with her Auntt Eliza, who seems to have been quite a cool, modern woman, a suffragette, for one thing, and had quite an influence on Rose 's life. It took my daughter and I a while to warm up to her though as she was so horrible to Laura in Little Town!

I loved Farmer Boy! My favorite episode was the sheep shearing. Almanzo's job was to carry the fleeces to the storage area. The others were teasing him that they would finish (shearing the sheep) before he finished. So when they took a break, he sneaked an unsheared sheep over to the storage area, and got the last laugh on them. I want to visit the Wilder home one day. I can see it all very clearly, just from the wonderful descriptions in the book.

I've been there and would hate to see additional buildings on the property. As it is now is how it was when Almanzo was a boy. It is easy to picture his life there. Additional buildings would destroy that element of the site.

It's crazy because he doesn't get any royalties (I guess that is what it's called) from reruns of this from when he was on. They didn't start to pay actors for their work til much later. I bet everyone already knew that....I just am wowed that all the money for this is going to keep this little Almanzo house going and he doesn't keep any of it.

I actually would not mind if a forward and, or, foot notes were added to Laura's books for historical clarification of social and racial attitudes of those times, that we do not find acceptable today. That way Laura's work is preserved and proper respect for others is taught.

I don't understand why people are so upset because Almanzo's name was mispronounced on the series. Nothing about the show was true to the books. It was clearly more a vehicle for Michael Landon's ego than a history lesson.

It’s nice to see someone who is working to protect our American heritage and history instead of trying to demean it or erase it. I grew up on the Little House books and still cherish those stories.
