I'm an 18 years old Italian boy who fell in love with "Little House on the Prairie" about one year ago. I casually discovered it by watching a TV channel called "Paramount Network" and I liked it so much that then I decided to buy every DVD of every season of it. Each day, as soon as I come back from school, I watch a new episode while eating lunch. It makes me feel better, in many ways. Some stories make me burst into laughter. Others drive me to reflect upon very serious and important topics such as society, moral values, nature worth, friendship, family, work, faith etc. Most of them, anyway, often move me so deeply to reduce me to tears, but those tears are not tears of sadness, of melancholy, but tears of joy: it's as if the wonderful message of empathy and love Michael Landon wanted to convey came straightaway to my soul, to my heart. It gives me hope in humanity, because it always reminds me that man can be good, just and happy too, if he truly believes in it. Maybe I'm too sensitive, but I don't consider it as an handicap, instead I think a true man should be both strong and sensitive, and the character of Charles Ingalls is an outstanding example of this idea.
I hope his soul is resting well, he was such a good man. I love this show and has so many good memories just watching it. FLY HIGH MICHAEL LANDON, We love you!!!
Manuel, make sure you don't miss the final goodbye to Little House. It was a film made in 1984 called "Little House: The Last Farewell." Have a stack of tissues near at hand.

No, not at all because her words are HIM! This show appealed and still appeals to people of differing faiths. This show moved and continues to move me in ways like no other and I’m not of the Christian faith AT ALL! Also, the Ingles and most of Walnut Grove’s residents were Protestants.

Mellissa Gilbert doesn't have a "decadent life", as you call it: she lives in the country and there's nothing wrong with that. She did some tv movies and she always has been a great actress but she prefered to be a part of shows that really means something to her.
What an incredible clip! My great uncle was a cameraman for this show - he's shown with Michael Landon at 3:52! What a beautiful surprise for my family and me to see my uncle, Bob Ulrich, on the TV screen, who passed a couple years ago. Rest in Peace, Bob. What a lovely lady! I had the honor of caring for Michael Landon as a nurse in his final months and he was one of the most honorable people I have ever had an opportunity to care for. He truly was an amazing human being!

Watching Laura become a teacher was very special for me because that’s what I wanted to do when I grew up, which I did. I remember clearly how excited I was when she got her first kiss on screen by “Manly.” I also remember when Michael Landon was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and I remember when he died. I cried buckets that day.
Actually I dont't remember crying when I watched it as a young teen. But now I cry, with every single episode. But in an incredibly good way. It is such a great change from the real, modern world out there.
I was an adult. And felt the same. But my Mom was/is still my Muse. Almost 92. Sharp as a tac. Walks every day. So I was raised to be that way. Born in 1929, Nov 28th, Thanksgiving day. She was pretty much raised that way. The depression. Stock Market crash. Great stories too. Good lessons for every generation. Our son grew up on it also.

She was the cutest girl-star ever. Her natural cuteness was nicely balanced by her scrappiness. It made her SO intensely likable. She seems to have not lost an ounce of charm. I love this woman.

I thought back to the year I took my family out west and we stopped in Walnut Grove, Minnesota, the first homestead they had, to see the place that the Ingalls family lived in the dugout house and played on table rock in the creek. I am 67 years old now and am so glad my daughter and I have these good memories of days gone by.
I wish I was named Laura because of this show! It was and is my absolute favorite show to watch, but no my mom named me Laura after General Hospital’s Luke and Laura…sigh 😂 btw I love my name!
Life gets easier when you embrace your age. I'm 58. At 19 I discovered my first grey hair. Then wasted 3 decades and a small fortune on correcting that issue. Now I'm salt & pepper, while my friends are franticly batteling the no 1 enemy. The dreaded aftergrowth. 😨 I've also resorted to comfortable shoes and clothes. It actually only took me into my late twenties to realize that my toes don't look like pointy triangles ! The memory of my grandmother's and great aunt's bunions was also a sobering thought. 😁
Melissa Gilbert sounds exactly the same as when she was on Little House on the Prairie. She also seems very down to earth. I grew up watching that show so I remember it well.

I was five years old when Little House on the Prairie aired for the first time. I was hooked immediately. And now, the age 53, I’m re-watching the entire series again. It is absolutely a cultural institution. I only wish Michael Landon would have lived long enough to see the impact that he and the show made.

I'm 53 and re-watching also! I don't know if you remember the episode with Billy Barty, but yrs ago I was a hostess at Katella Deli in Los Alamitos, CA and Billy used to frequent the Los Alamitos race track down the street. I couldn't believe it was him walking through the restraunt doors. I was so excited to seat him and I told him I remembered him on Little House on The Prairie and he said it was wonderful to work on the show. He seemed like a very nice man.
I love how she seems so relaxed, wearing blissfully comfortable attire, grey hair, no makeup and unapologetic ! What a relief from the high pressures of Hollywood. God bless this lovely woman who gave us such wonderful tv memories. 💕🌸🦋😇

It wasn’t by chance, or mistake that Americas still love LITTLE HOUSE. It was the best time. I was a kid. But today, that opening tune still makes me feel good inside. I also feel like our generation, Gen Xers miss the wholesomeness of TV. We see enough garbage on social media, fighting and protesting on news. Its like a trip back home and a hug from and friend.
As a Gen X I completely agree. I don't watch reality shows. I miss the shows where your actually felt connected and learned something. And MTV when it was music videos. 😃

Could see on her face Michael Landon's impact still resonates and is missed. Reality TV sucks and media in general now, but treasures like this live on and we can re-watch anytime. We forget that there were protesting and fighting even then. Vietnam, gas shortage, and racial riots at a smaller scale. Back then we were young and nàive. We didn't have the media coverage we have now. I agree that TV show should be more family oriented and reality TV killed.
Little House is still my all time favorite show. Growing up I wanted Charles & Caroline to be my parents, and I still think they are one of the best examples of a loving marriage w/ good parenting ever on the silver screen... they weren't perfect, but pretty darn close. I actually started watching the show again about a week ago. I'm guessing this will be my 5th or 6th time through the entire series. I just wish I could get my family to watch it with me.

I just went back to the show! I used to rush home from school to catch each episode. Thoroughly loved it. Loved Charles Ingalls and the whole family. The programme taught kindness, grace and community as the most important thing. I watched the very first episode last week where a man trys to cheat Charles out of his Oxen but the community steps in to assist. I was in tears. Thats what we need more of! It's interesting how I took different things from the show as an adult to a child, namelt how hard but simple and true their lives were..RIP Michael Landon.💕💕

I just watched a movie written by Michael Landon Jr. He wasn't that great of a father. He had a bunch of kids to 3 different woman and left each set behind with each new family he started. At least according to his son.
I grew up watching it at age 3…my father read me & my siblings the book series too. My family even took an RV trip to see where the real Laura Ingalls grew up . I saw plum creek and the spot where the in ground house was. I also idolized Laura and would wear brown braided yarn clipped in my hair ! ( I had short hair when young ) and I’m 52 years old & I have re watched all the episodes many many times over all the years and still watch it today . I still cry during sad episodes & laugh at the funny ones..I just feel calm when I’m watching it ..the era when life was simple but still challenging! Best show ever ❤
a Well, don’t be too disappointed. Melissa Gilbert actually wouldn’t speak to Michael Landon for years, between the time when he had his affair with his new wife and left his old wife, and his death. When she realized that he didn’t have much time left because of cancer, she went to his bedside and told him she forgave him. :’( :’)
@Quaker 2019 It was loosely based on the series of books. Making it accurate wouldn't reflect modern values and people would have had a hard time understanding all of it.
@Quaker 2019 "It was supposed to reflect the thinking of the time" through a modern reading of it. That's what you're missing. It was never supposed to be a historical documentary, it was a series based on events and characters from the 19th century but viewed through a modern ethical and cultural standpoint.
Actually, they do still make wholesome tv shows. Give "Lark Rise to Candleford" a try. Reminds me a lot of Little House. Father Brown is another great series. One of my favorites, and it still has new episodes coming out. Also, Chesapeake Shores isn't too bad. My wife watches it, and sometimes I'll join. Little too modern and cheesy for me at times, but it has good messages.

Its amazing the influence the show had on so many. I am from Scotland and a few years younger than Melissa. The middle of 3 sisters, I cast myself as Laura, my sisters as Mary and Carrie. As children in the 1970s we used to re-enact scenes from the show, including running down a grassy slope ! I actually had a childhood 'friend' who looked and behaved exactly like Nellie Olsen ! Her parents and younger brother's personalities all matched those of Nellie's also, the family dynamics were spot on !! If you ever contact or see Melissa, say Hi from me ! 🙅♀️💕
I'm 50 years old. I grew up with that, and then broke the chains. If you watch objectively, you'll see that the women in this show started to do that as well. It IS possible to learn from history, you know. The show is also god-based, while I'm atheist. Again, it's possible to watch something without being triggered.
Watched Little House and the Waltons as a kid when both shows were staples in the mid-70s. Lots of lessons and truths learned. Always have been a history buff and still enjoy watching both shows with my own family. I hope the tradition lives on!

Listening to Melissa in the video around 4:01 her voice and expression is just like she sounded as little Laura ^_^. I Still watch all the episodes with out even skipping the introduction of the series, the song.... then Mom and Dad watching proud their 3 little girls running towards them, is something I cherish in my heart

I identified w/Laura so much( except I had a blonde younger brother). I had an overbite & freckles like she did, though my hair is curly & was short & I soo wanted her braids , wear those cute outfits & own a horse! This show also taught to stand up for what I believed like she did. I also read the books which were quite different from the series but really learned about American settler life better than any textbook👍

I'm 75 and still watching Little House on the Prairie. It gives you a peace and laughter which there is just to little of in this technical world we live in now.
This little indian girl, age 51, loves her Little House on the Prairie. I just started rewatching it and even though I grew up on it as a little girl, I'm finding I've missed quite a bit. She made me shed some tears when she talked about Michael Landon's passing.
This show was my childhood. I wanted Charles Ingalls to be my dad so badly. And, more than anything, I wish I could go back to simpler times....drop me off, don’t come to collect me, I’ll be fine.
I just love this show and Walton's. Most episode had me in tears. I could watch it and over again. And Melissa still has the same sweet, adorable voice from when she was a little girl!.
She's still got it in all the right places,you said it.. her husband is a lucky man... Melissa and I are the same age..3 months apart...I had the biggest crush on her as we grew together on little house, she was/is a beautiful princess and me ..well I'm just a frog.
I read through this entire series of 9 books to my daughters this year. It took roughly ten months with one chapter a night and only a few nights here and there when we didn't read. It was transformative for all of us. I highly recommend you read these books to your kids. Don't just stop at the TV show. There is so much wisdom in them. I was highlighting lines like crazy. What an incredible story.
Melissa Gilbert is just fantastic. I feel I was truly blessed to see her in this show and all the cast members. It means so much to me. I watched this show years ago in the 70's and just finished binge watching it not too long ago. Now I watch episodes every other day. Great values in this show. He was such a talent! Every show that he touched turned to gold. He was very involved in Bonanza and would rewrite scripts and direct. Totally owned Little House and Highway to Heaven and had the ideas to make them successful. Could have done so much more.
Little House was part of my childhood and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Children were children and we had to respect our elders. I always learned valuable lessons from that show...
The outfit she choose for the interrview is simple when usually most actors tend to look Gap or Prada. It was a good choice. It shows she moved in a diffeent direction and happy with it.
This show was my entire childhood. I grew up with my grandparents and they influenced me so much and this is one of the shows we kind of had as an almost tradition in our house. I think we know almost every episode by heart just by the first 2 seconds of the episode.
This show has helped me so much over the years! During my times in my life when things were really tough, and when I was tired of praying and waiting, or I would come home from a long day of work and responsibility, or just felt the loneliness in my life or and injustices in the world, I could go to my Little House on the Prairie collection and forget about problems and just enjoy and feel better again! It gave you hope in humanity again! The books are splendid too, and Laura Ingalls had a great talent for writing that started when she was a child when her Pa asked her to often describe things in detail to her blind sister, Mary, when they would take walks together. ...The books just make me feel warm and cozy inside, are intriguing, historically educational, are an escape from today, and the show captures the same essence, and Michael Landon and others did a splendid job of bringing the books to life, and adding lots of love in a special way. When my two adult children come to visit, they often want to watch an episode. I recently heard my leftist, young adult aged daughter tell her little girl that this is still her very favorite show! That warmed my heart and gave me hope! This show still affects me to this day! I don’t think we will ever see anything close to the likes of this show ever again. I don’t think it’s possible in the world we have created today! But as long as the values of this show and these books are in my heart, I’ll be okay. :)

This year will be 50 years since the start of little house on the prairie in 1974, last year was 40 years since the end in 1983. Huge respect to Melissa Gilbert for being in LHOTP for 9 years in all of the seasons.
This show was NOT innocent. I think people forget about the dark storylines LHOTP featured -- multiple tragic child deaths (including by drowning and by fire), drug addiction, shootings, kidnappings and perhaps their darkest two-episode arc of all, the rape of Albert's girlfriend Sylvia by the town blacksmith who wore a terrifying clown mask. It was actually BECAUSE of this show that I learned about rape, in the second grade! This show was all kinds of f*#$*$#ed up, particularly in the later seasons, when it strayed enormously from the books (probably for ratings). But that's part of why I loved it as a kid!
I raised my daughter during the 90's, and watching this show was our favorite pastime. It was our bonding time and to this day, the memories stay with us. I purchased all the videos and she now has them to share with her future family. I wish I could find a show on Cable TV that is half as good as this show. We are now surrounded by violent and horror for entertainment, and our society has become sick because of it.
Melissa rose above 500 other girls who auditioned to get the part of Laura Ingalls. I think Jodie Foster and Tatum O'Neill auditioned, too, but I may be wrong on that.
Michael had the amazing qualities that exemplify a wonderful human being. And yet, like so many in our industry, he chose to shatter his own family by leaving his wife for a younger woman. He was a wonderful man who made wrong choices, as do many of us. Thank God for His redeeming grace.
People were drawn to that show because of the wholesomeness and the values that were portrayed. And because of the lack of those values in the modern world we live in. It was a place that many of us want to live in, but can't because such a place doesn't really exist anywhere is this world anymore..
@Quaker 2019 From what I understand, Laura Ingles took liberties with her writing also. A lot of what she wrote was embellished to say the least. Her books were very entertaining though.

The author taking liberties is a seperate issue apparently because you say it is, it isn't, it is no different. Also what do you think they were going to do? the show is 10 seasons long, the books are childrens books and not long, it would have lasted like 2 seasons if it went by the books.
I’m watching all the episodes and I feel I leave this ugly world for a moment. I love the show so much. Correction: sorry it’s not on Netflix. My brother purchased this small thing called “stick” at Best Buy and downloaded lots of free channels and in one of those channels I found little house on the prairie. We don’t pay for cable anymore, but you need internet to be able to download those channels.
Princess Kee My brother got this “stick” from Best Buy and then downloaded an app. I don’t know too much about technology but with the stick he downloaded tons of channels. We don’t pay for cable anymore.
My dad (81) has Alzheimer‘s and he wants to watch „Our little house on the prairie“ all the time so I started watching with him and it really brought me back to my childhood. It’s a beautiful show, no wonder he loves it so much.

I was one year younger than Melissa when I was part of the school boys that you would see in the background. I lived in the same Neighborhood as Pat and Matt as well as 2nd unit camera operator. I had the pleasure of seeing Michael Landon and just being on the set of one of my favorite shows. I cant describe the whole feeling but it's the one moment in my life I will always hold in that special spot. I cried when those days stopped...I cried when "Pa" died and I still cry to this day for the memory...I wish I could do it again from day one...even though I hated early mornings! Ha!
I'm one of those who just started watching the episodes again...it was my favorite show as a kid in the 70s. There is absolutely no modern show like it that stirs emotional response, charm, safe for kids to watch, teaches the lessons of having a strong moral code & adds lightheartedness & humor. It proudly showed God of the Universe being a constant anchor of the character's life or a story of redemption for others. It's the time of neighbors helping neighbors not just once a year but all the time. We so need that moral code now. I hope younger people watch the show.
I think these books and this show truly “shaped” many of us here today and we can only hope to reflect Mr. Landon’s love and compassion that is sorely missed in what this twisted world has now become. I try to instill these values in my children, a simple life filled with love and compassion for others.

When my kids were growing up I made them watch Little House, they are in their 20s now! So glad I did because they actually have morals! Watching Little house was like going to church for us!
I am sorry, but Michael was not such a great father in real life! He left his wife and several children for a younger woman and immediately had a child with her! In the book by Laura I galls, her father was a very strict man - not at all the kind, loving dad as portrayed by Michael Langdon in the TV series.
I love that she has aged naturally, & that she married Poindexter. All hail the original Revenge Of The Nerds. LOL. I also learned that she is four years older than I. Time passes quickly.
I always forget Tim Busfield was in "Nerds". He was also in "Stripes", "Field Of Dreams", and a regular on the show "thirtysomething". He also produced and directed episodes of "Without A Trace" and "For Life".
I know she is 6 yrs older than me, I never realized we were so close in age. I looked a lot like her as a kid and got that from people all the time. I was also a little Tom boy like her. lol I love the person she has become.
I was OBSESSED with that show as a kid. I wore my hair in braids whenever possible and told people my name was Laura. My friends and I would play "Little House on the Prairie" in our backyards. Good memories of simpler times.

I love this show and always has since childhood. I don’t think I ever stopped watching it. Christ centered show, good writing, love, etc. can’t beat it.
My family of origin had the books, but it was my wife of 21 years reading the series to our two children that deepened my appreciation and understanding of this wonderful contribution to literature.
When I was in elementary school I had a teacher who read to us in the afternoons. She read all of the “Little House” books and when summer arrived I had to go buy “These Happy Golden Years” because she hadn’t gotten to it yet. I loved those books. I was an adult when the show came on so I HAD to watch.
My EL school librarian used to read the books to us. I have loved the books and the TV show ever since. So excited to grow up in the 70s. Oh, did I mention that my school librarian grew up in Mansfield, MO and met the real Laura. I became a school librarian because of Laura.
I never watched the show in prime time, but when I learned that it was on Amazon Prime this past winter, I watched every season and it really helped me get through a tough time in my life and the onset of the pandemic. So glad to see that Melissa is doing so well in her life. Long live Little House!!
Little House on the Prairie was one of my favorite shows of all time. My father once said I was born a century too late and that might be true. During the lockdown of 2020 I realized that I really enjoyed my time at home and decided after 30 years it was time to retire to my little house on a small private lake in Michigan. Best wishes Melissa, I honestly think we are more alike than I knew. :-)

I'm an 18 years old Italian boy who fell in love with "Little House on the Prairie" about one year ago. I casually discovered it by watching a TV channel called "Paramount Network" and I liked it so much that then I decided to buy every DVD of every season of it. Each day, as soon as I come back from school, I watch a new episode while eating lunch. It makes me feel better, in many ways. Some stories make me burst into laughter. Others drive me to reflect upon very serious and important topics such as society, moral values, nature worth, friendship, family, work, faith etc. Most of them, anyway, often move me so deeply to reduce me to tears, but those tears are not tears of sadness, of melancholy, but tears of joy: it's as if the wonderful message of empathy and love Michael Landon wanted to convey came straightaway to my soul, to my heart. It gives me hope in humanity, because it always reminds me that man can be good, just and happy too, if he truly believes in it. Maybe I'm too sensitive, but I don't consider it as an handicap, instead I think a true man should be both strong and sensitive, and the character of Charles Ingalls is an outstanding example of this idea.

No, not at all because her words are HIM! This show appealed and still appeals to people of differing faiths. This show moved and continues to move me in ways like no other and I’m not of the Christian faith AT ALL! Also, the Ingles and most of Walnut Grove’s residents were Protestants.

She did some tv movies and she always has been a great actress but she prefered to be a part of shows that really means something to her.

Stephanie Jennison What an honor! I watched this show like a religion when it aired originally. Watching Laura become a teacher was very special for me because that’s what I wanted to do when I grew up, which I did. I remember clearly how excited I was when she got her first kiss on screen by “Manly.” I also remember when Michael Landon was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and I remember when he died. I cried buckets that day.
He was one of the BEST! Miss his "genius"...and his compassion for humanity.
I actually think this show helped me develop empathy as a child, I was in tears watching it nearly every single week. I loved it.

My Mom read us the books and we always watched the show. I was devastated when in later years she sold the entire series of books in a yard sale.

I was an adult. And felt the same. But my Mom was/is still my Muse. Almost 92. Sharp as a tac. Walks every day. So I was raised to be that way. Born in 1929, Nov 28th, Thanksgiving day. She was pretty much raised that way. The depression. Stock Market crash. Great stories too. Good lessons for every generation. Our son grew up on it also.

I thought back to the year I took my family out west and we stopped in Walnut Grove, Minnesota, the first homestead they had, to see the place that the Ingalls family lived in the dugout house and played on table rock in the creek. I am 67 years old now and am so glad my daughter and I have these good memories of days gone by.

I was five years old when Little House on the Prairie aired for the first time. I was hooked immediately. And now, the age 53, I’m re-watching the entire series again. I don't know if you remember the episode with Billy Barty, but yrs ago I was a hostess at Katella Deli in Los Alamitos, CA and Billy used to frequent the Los Alamitos race track down the street. I couldn't believe it was him walking through the restraunt doors. I was so excited to seat him and I told him I remembered him on Little House on The Prairie and he said it was wonderful to work on the show. He seemed like a very nice man.

We forget that there were protesting and fighting even then. Vietnam, gas shortage, and racial riots at a smaller scale. Back then we were young and nàive. We didn't have the media coverage we have now. I agree that TV show should be more family oriented and reality TV killed.
Little House is still my all time favorite show. Growing up I wanted Charles & Caroline to be my parents, and I still think they are one of the best examples of a loving marriage w/ good parenting ever on the silver screen... they weren't perfect, but pretty darn close. I actually started watching the show again about a week ago. I'm guessing this will be my 5th or 6th time through the entire series. I just wish I could get my family to watch it with me.

I just went back to the show! I used to rush home from school to catch each episode. Thoroughly loved it. Loved Charles Ingalls and the whole family. The programme taught kindness, grace and community as the most important thing. I watched the very first episode last week where a man trys to cheat Charles out of his Oxen but the community steps in to assist. I was in tears. Thats what we need more of! It's interesting how I took different things from the show as an adult to a child, namelt how hard but simple and true their lives were..RIP Michael Landon.💕💕

I just watched a movie written by Michael Landon Jr. He wasn't that great of a father. He had a bunch of kids to 3 different woman and left each set behind with each new family he started. At least according to his son.
I grew up watching it at age 3…my father read me & my siblings the book series too. My family even took an RV trip to see where the real Laura Ingalls grew up . I saw plum creek and the spot where the in ground house was. I also idolized Laura and would wear brown braided yarn clipped in my hair ! ( I had short hair when young ) and I’m 52 years old & I have re watched all the episodes many many times over all the years and still watch it today . I still cry during sad episodes & laugh at the funny ones..I just feel calm when I’m watching it ..the era when life was simple but still challenging! Best show ever ❤

@Quaker 2019 It was loosely based on the series of books. Making it accurate wouldn't reflect modern values and people would have had a hard time understanding all of it.
@Quaker 2019 "It was supposed to reflect the thinking of the time" through a modern reading of it. That's what you're missing. It was never supposed to be a historical documentary, it was a series based on events and characters from the 19th century but viewed through a modern ethical and cultural standpoint.
Actually, they do still make wholesome tv shows. Give "Lark Rise to Candleford" a try. Reminds me a lot of Little House.
Father Brown is another great series. One of my favorites, and it still has new episodes coming out.
Also, Chesapeake Shores isn't too bad. My wife watches it, and sometimes I'll join. Little too modern and cheesy for me at times, but it has good messages.

Its amazing the influence the show had on so many. I am from Scotland and a few years younger than Melissa. The middle of 3 sisters, I cast myself as Laura, my sisters as Mary and Carrie. As children in the 1970s we used to re-enact scenes from the show, including running down a grassy slope ! I actually had a childhood 'friend' who looked and behaved exactly like Nellie Olsen ! I'm 50 years old. I grew up with that, and then broke the chains. If you watch objectively, you'll see that the women in this show started to do that as well. It IS possible to learn from history, you know. The show is also god-based, while I'm atheist. Again, it's possible to watch something without being triggered.
I'm also watching them all over again and loving the show even more than I did in the 70's. Right now I am nearly finished season one. :)
Watched Little House and the Waltons as a kid when both shows were staples in the mid-70s. Lots of lessons and truths learned. Always have been a history buff and still enjoy watching both shows with my own family. I hope the tradition lives on!

I Still watch all the episodes with out even skipping the introduction of the series, the song.... then Mom and Dad watching proud their 3 little girls running towards them, is something I cherish in my heart

I had an overbite & freckles like she did, though my hair is curly & was short & I soo wanted her braids , wear those cute outfits & own a horse! This show also taught to stand up for what I believed like she did. I also read the books which were quite different from the series but really learned about American settler life better than any textbook👍

I'm 75 and still watching Little House on the Prairie. It gives you a peace and laughter which there is just to little of in this technical world we live in now.
This little indian girl, age 51, loves her Little House on the Prairie. I just started rewatching it and even though I grew up on it as a little girl, I'm finding I've missed quite a bit. She made me shed some tears when she talked about Michael Landon's passing.
This show was my childhood. I wanted Charles Ingalls to be my dad so badly. And, more than anything, I wish I could go back to simpler times....drop me off, don’t come to collect me, I’ll be fine.

I just love this show and Walton's. Most episode had me in tears. I could watch it and over again.
And Melissa still has the same sweet, adorable voice from when she was a little girl!.

She looks like she is very comfortable in her life, and it's so good to see it!
I read through this entire series of 9 books to my daughters this year. It took roughly ten months with one chapter a night and only a few nights here and there when we didn't read. It was transformative for all of us. I highly recommend you read these books to your kids. Don't just stop at the TV show. There is so much wisdom in them. I was highlighting lines like crazy. What an incredible story.
Melissa Gilbert is just fantastic. I feel I was truly blessed to see her in this show and all the cast members. It means so much to me. I watched this show years ago in the 70's and just finished binge watching it not too long ago. Now I watch episodes every other day. Great values in this show. Melissa you have a great heart and soul. I hope you read this.

Every time someone talks about what kind of man Michael Landon was, I can’t help but get misty-eyed. Loved him and always will!
He was such a talent! Every show that he touched turned to gold. He was very involved in Bonanza and would rewrite scripts and direct. Totally owned Little House and Highway to Heaven and had the ideas to make them successful. Could have done so much more.
If I am not mistaken, I believe that Melissa named one of her sons Michael after Mr. Landon.

This show was my entire childhood. I grew up with my grandparents and they influenced me so much and this is one of the shows we kind of had as an almost tradition in our house. I think we know almost every episode by heart just by the first 2 seconds of the episode.
This show has helped me so much over the years! During my times in my life when things were really tough, and when I was tired of praying and waiting, or I would come home from a long day of work and responsibility, or just felt the loneliness in my life or and injustices in the world, I could go to my Little House on the Prairie collection and forget about problems and just enjoy and feel better again! It gave you hope in humanity again! The books are splendid too, and Laura Ingalls had a great talent for writing that started when she was a child when her Pa asked her to often describe things in detail to her blind sister, Mary, when they would take walks together. ...The books just make me feel warm and cozy inside, are intriguing, historically educational, are an escape from today, and the show captures the same essence, and Michael Landon and others did a splendid job of bringing the books to life, and adding lots of love in a special way. When my two adult children come to visit, they often want to watch an episode. I recently heard my leftist, young adult aged daughter tell her little girl that this is still her very favorite show! That warmed my heart and gave me hope! This show still affects me to this day! I don’t think we will ever see anything close to the likes of this show ever again. I don’t think it’s possible in the world we have created today! But as long as the values of this show and these books are in my heart, I’ll be okay. :)

This year will be 50 years since the start of little house on the prairie in 1974, last year was 40 years since the end in 1983. Huge respect to Melissa Gilbert for being in LHOTP for 9 years in all of the seasons.

This show was NOT innocent. I think people forget about the dark storylines LHOTP featured -- multiple tragic child deaths (including by drowning and by fire), drug addiction, shootings, kidnappings and perhaps their darkest two-episode arc of all, the rape of Albert's girlfriend Sylvia by the town blacksmith who wore a terrifying clown mask. It was actually BECAUSE of this show that I learned about rape, in the second grade!
This show was all kinds of f*#$*$#ed up, particularly in the later seasons, when it strayed enormously from the books (probably for ratings). But that's part of why I loved it as a kid!
I raised my daughter during the 90's, and watching this show was our favorite pastime. It was our bonding time and to this day, the memories stay with us. I purchased all the videos and she now has them to share with her future family. I wish I could find a show on Cable TV that is half as good as this show. We are now surrounded by violent and horror for entertainment, and our society has become sick because of it.

Melissa rose above 500 other girls who auditioned to get the part of Laura Ingalls. I think Jodie Foster and Tatum O'Neill auditioned, too, but I may be wrong on that.
I had never seen this show u til the pandemic. I am now in my fourth time of watch the complete seasons. I love this show and all the characters.
Michael Landon’s nickname inside NBC was “Jesus of Malibu.” Great show. They don’t make them like that anymore. Great to see Melissa. Nice interview!
Michael had the amazing qualities that exemplify a wonderful human being. And yet, like so many in our industry, he chose to shatter his own family by leaving his wife for a younger woman. He was a wonderful man who made wrong choices, as do many of us. Thank God for His redeeming grace.
He was a lovely man, but he was also Jewish. I guess he was the Jesus who bridged the gap! We need more tolerance now a days, for everybody.

People were drawn to that show because of the wholesomeness and the values that were portrayed. And because of the lack of those values in the modern world we live in. It was a place that many of us want to live in, but can't because such a place doesn't really exist anywhere is this world anymore..
@Quaker 2019 From what I understand, Laura Ingles took liberties with her writing also. A lot of what she wrote was embellished to say the least. Her books were very entertaining though.

The author taking liberties is a seperate issue apparently because you say it is, it isn't, it is no different. Also what do you think they were going to do? the show is 10 seasons long, the books are childrens books and not long, it would have lasted like 2 seasons if it went by the books.

Correction: sorry it’s not on Netflix. My brother purchased this small thing called “stick” at Best Buy and downloaded lots of free channels and in one of those channels I found little house on the prairie. We don’t pay for cable anymore, but you need internet to be able to download those channels.

My dad (81) has Alzheimer‘s and he wants to watch „Our little house on the prairie“ all the time so I started watching with him and it really brought me back to my childhood. It’s a beautiful show, no wonder he loves it so much.

I was one year younger than Melissa when I was part of the school boys that you would see in the background. I lived in the same Neighborhood as Pat and Matt as well as 2nd unit camera operator. I had the pleasure of seeing Michael Landon and just being on the set of one of my favorite shows. I cant describe the whole feeling but it's the one moment in my life I will always hold in that special spot. I cried when those days stopped...I cried when "Pa" died and I still cry to this day for the memory...I wish I could do it again from day one...even though I hated early mornings! Ha!

I'm one of those who just started watching the episodes again...it was my favorite show as a kid in the 70s. There is absolutely no modern show like it that stirs emotional response, charm, safe for kids to watch, teaches the lessons of having a strong moral code & adds lightheartedness & humor. It proudly showed God of the Universe being a constant anchor of the character's life or a story of redemption for others. It's the time of neighbors helping neighbors not just once a year but all the time. We so need that moral code now. I hope younger people watch the show.
I think these books and this show truly “shaped” many of us here today and we can only hope to reflect Mr. Landon’s love and compassion that is sorely missed in what this twisted world has now become. I try to instill these values in my children, a simple life filled with love and compassion for others.
I agree with your first statement of this show and books shaping many of us today. Thinking about that philosophy and taking it to today, what are the shows and books and music of today doing to the kids???? I shudder to think
When my kids were growing up I made them watch Little House, they are in their 20s now! So glad I did because they actually have morals! Watching Little house was like going to church for us!

I am sorry, but Michael was not such a great father in real life! He left his wife and several children for a younger woman and immediately had a child with her! In the book by Laura I galls, her father was a very strict man - not at all the kind, loving dad as portrayed by Michael Langdon in the TV series.

I always forget Tim Busfield was in "Nerds". He was also in "Stripes", "Field Of Dreams", and a regular on the show "thirtysomething". He also produced and directed episodes of "Without A Trace" and "For Life".

I know she is 6 yrs older than me, I never realized we were so close in age. I looked a lot like her as a kid and got that from people all the time. I was also a little Tom boy like her. lol I love the person she has become.
I was OBSESSED with that show as a kid. I wore my hair in braids whenever possible and told people my name was Laura. My friends and I would play "Little House on the Prairie" in our backyards. Good memories of simpler times.

I read the books over and over and over again when I was a child. Love them to this day.
My family of origin had the books, but it was my wife of 21 years reading the series to our two children that deepened my appreciation and understanding of this wonderful contribution to literature.
When I was in elementary school I had a teacher who read to us in the afternoons. She read all of the “Little House” books and when summer arrived I had to go buy “These Happy Golden Years” because she hadn’t gotten to it yet. I loved those books. I was an adult when the show came on so I HAD to watch.

My 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Wellhoff, read the books to us everyday after lunch. I loved those books and still love reading because of her.
That's how I got started
My EL school librarian used to read the books to us. I have loved the books and the TV show ever since. So excited to grow up in the 70s. Oh, did I mention that my school librarian grew up in Mansfield, MO and met the real Laura. I became a school librarian because of Laura.

I never watched the show in prime time, but when I learned that it was on Amazon Prime this past winter, I watched every season and it really helped me get through a tough time in my life and the onset of the pandemic. So glad to see that Melissa is doing so well in her life. Long live Little House!!

Little House on the Prairie was one of my favorite shows of all time. My father once said I was born a century too late and that might be true. During the lockdown of 2020 I realized that I really enjoyed my time at home and decided after 30 years it was time to retire to my little house on a small private lake in Michigan. Best wishes Melissa, I honestly think we are more alike than I knew. :-)
