I have lived in Lubbock my whole life! I know some people like to complain but that’s mostly people from huge towns. I love it here and I don’t ever plan to leave.

My daughter and husband are moving there. They came and saw Andrew. He likely just mentioned them. Nick and Vanessa. I think that it was the meat judging that did it for them. 😂
@@zaner11b8 its great. If you can get involved in a church you can hook up with a lot of people in your age bracket and find a great group of people.

I currently live in Hawai'i (born and raised here) and its crazy expensive. Got some friends in Lubbock that convinced me to move there. got a 2 year plan to save up and get things in order before making the move.

Grew up in Floydada about an hour from Lubbock. If you're a younger person moving to Lubbock from out of state thinking you'll be bored, I just cannot stress how Texas football and sports culture makes that almost impossible. Almost everything along Broadway between University and Buddy Holly is popping off after a game and on the weekends. People from the surrounding smaller towns come to Lubbock to shop and have fun, so it can be busier than you think. If country music is not your thing, there are quite a number of club type bars with hip hop, house, or EDM music too. I also cannot stress just how large Texas Tech campus is. The industry of the city almost thrives around it and the campus itself feels like a city within a city. It's not as big as A&M, but if you count every single space and building run and operated by the University, it's pretty much spread out everywhere within and even outside the metro. Even if you're not into sports, the college scene keeps that area of the city lively almost all year round. If you do lean more on the liberal side or have a background in liberal arts, you'll find your community near Texas Tech campus, guaranteed. If you're getting a masters or PhD, Tech is abundant with plenty of post grad programs and job positions, especially on the Health Sciences Center side.
For whatever reason, the city developed more south of the loop along Slide Road and Quaker Avenue, especially after Marsha Sharp freeway was finally constructed (the engineering behind that project is actually pretty interesting, it definitely improved the aesthetic of that area). So families with young children might set up shop in that area for schools and shopping.
Texas Tech is unfortunately pretty costly on tuition, so many students often start out at South Plains College in Leveland TX, which is about 40 minutes away. After getting their associates, they'll then transfer.
I live over 1000 miles away from my hometown now, but I always felt like I could return to the Lubbock area if I ever needed to and be satisfied.

My daughter seems set on going to Texas tech. We live in Fort worth. It took me darn near 20 years to get settled into living in Texas after transplanting from michigan, so I'm not really looking forward to moving out that way.
After doing the math, our finances might get a break if I sell my house and move there instead of trying to maintain a mortgage here and her tuition and housing there.
I only had a couple of hours to look around before heading back home and what I so I didn't impress me. I think it's just the way we came and looked a bit run down. But now that you've given me some streets and landmarks to go off of I can look around virtually through Google maps and maybe Zillow.

What is there to do in Lubbock? Why not show the activities? Two museums and antique stores, is there more? Is there a downtown with dining and after hours entertainment? Does everything close in the evening? Where are the gyms and activity centers?
My company is building a plant in Lubbock and I am considering moving to Lubbock from Colorado, but I am unsure. I would much rather live in Texas than Colorado! Thanks so much for your video this helps me to make a decision!

Lubbock is pretty much the same as Amarillo, except Amarillo is a little more blue collar, Lubbock is a little more of a college town with lots of younger people. Both have lots of great restaurants and places to live your life without being bothered too much.
There are some good things in Lubbock, but the bad does not make up for the low cost of living. Notice he said the aquarium and water park are coming? That's a big question as to if they will ever be built. It's hot dry and windy most of the year. There are only two very mall lakes within an hour or so. Hunting is o ly on private land, so you find a lease and pay through the nose for a lease or forget it. The closest state part is two hours away. In short There is actually very little to do for adults except go out to eat. We lived there 11 years and got out as soon as we could.
The biggest con for me growing up there was the sandstorms. I finishing up college in '95 and the sand blew 220 days that year. So, I bounced to Dallas. If they ever get rid of the sand I'll move back. My family still lives out there and my daughter is going to Tech so we go out there a lot. It has grown and is unrecognizable in places but the changes can't override the sand. LOL
Lots of land makes it appealing and the new growth.

I've never been but slightly doing a lot of research I plan on visiting soon I'm loving these smaller cities less traffic.. I love telling people over here in Georgia that there's more to Texas besides Dallas Houston and Austin lol

We just wrote out our pros and cons, and none of the “cons” were remotely close to being a deal breaker. We’ve had one person tell us not to move to Lubbock due to the extreme weather, but we rarely leave the house anyways. :P
And honestly, I’ve been living in a concrete jungle my whole life. I thought the flatness was gorgeous, and it’s almost a little disorienting at first. I can’t see that ever getting old.
We were wondering, do people tend to get outdoor swimming pools installed? Is the weather/dust an issue?

Drive to Dallas!! You go straight down the highway to Seymour. Gas up there. Then drive by the old cemeteries and through the country. You will be in Ft Worth in 4.5 hours, and Dallas is another hour from there. It is totally worth the drive. It is boring until you get to Seymour, because you really see nothing, but once the small towns and greenery starts, oh, it is worth it. It is a nice break. On the 199 to Ft Worth, you will start seeing all the Deer Corn signs. You are getting closer by the minute. In Springtown, stop at Kwik Stop. They have fried chicken all hot and ready at 7am.
If you think Lubbock is boring that doesn’t mean Lubbock is boring, it means you’re boring
i want to move to texas but dont want to be in the big cities, any cool suburbs 2-3 hours away from the cities? dont matter which one
fun fact that oil in midland isnt used for gasoline... its not pure enough... its used for Jetfuel.

@@LubbockLiving yeah I use to work for the LSO and Airport PD in lubbock had many traffic stops with those guys hauling through lubbock at 80-90 mph so it all comes down to the purity of the oil when its pulled from the ground.
I’m from Alberta we’re thinking of moving to either Texas or Tennessee the old ladies scared for the hurricanes and tornados that roll around there myself I could care less we’re thinking that central/north northwest Texas anything you could tell us about that area as we no nothing and have been researching for a long time

Tornadoes are rare. But dust storms and 40-50 mph winds are frequent. Some days you can't see the sun because of all the dust in the air.

It has to be the haters. No way is Lubbock worse than anywhere else.
Funny enough I just got out of an Uber ride here in midland and he lives out in Lubbock, told me the East to south is basically the best part and to really stay away from the west side of Lubbock, apparently that’s where everything drug related goes down, so maybe that’s why but I cant speak from my own personal experience since I’ve never been to Lubbock but I hear a lot about crime there and it kind of matched up to what he’s saying too

I would venture to say...it's the crime rate. chance of being a victim of violent crime is 1 in 92. 2023 stats. Texas average is 1 in 232. For some additional context it's violent crime rate gives Chicago a run for its money. It beats Chi-town in property crime. Ugh.
@@OmenaterProductions eastside is the low income side and as a result, the crime is disproportionate. the west and southwest side is starting to become Little Austin.

Please learn how to pronounce the name of the city! It’s not “Lubbick!” There IS no “i” in Lubbock! Sheesh! It’s pronounced “Lubbuck”.
Secondly, how do you mention “cons“ about Lubbock and not even bring up the words “dust storm?” All you said was “wind!” Yeah, and what does the wind CAUSE?!? Dust storms! That’s always been the biggest con of all for Lubbock.
