I'm 70 years old, live in Trenton and have lived in multiple cities in the downriver area my entire life. It took my adult life to appreciate Michigan. Love the 4 seasons along with the other pros you mentioned 😊
Concerning road construction, it IS all the time. It's also everywhere, in all directions. The unofficial state flower is the reflective orange barrel.
Deep red states are dying. People are leaving, don't even want to go there for vacation. Soon those states will be charging taxes because the money they charge tourists for hotel and car rental taxes won't be there.
Insurance agent here: another CON you should have mentioned is the expensive auto insurance. Michigan is the most expensive in the country because we have Unlimited PIP Medical Coverage. And even if you buy down to $250K it’s still higher than almost every other state. Most states it’s between $5,000 and $25,000 in medical coverage if you get in an accident. But you don’t get the other benefits like OT/PT or lawn/snow service if you can’t do it cuz you were hurt in an accident.
That's because we live by Canada and we have a hybrid insurance system that half mimics the US and half mimics Canada. It's expensive but it certainly keeps people covered.
With all of the insurance loopholes that cheat people out of their money, it should be cheap, but when you repeal helmet laws for the dumbest of the population, lawyers know exactly what to do with that.
I have lived in 7 states and am so glad that I was finally able to move back. Michigan has so much natural beauty and recreation activities. The summers aren’t too hot and the winters aren’t too cold. In Metro Detroit, there’s never a lot of snow and the land is flat enough so driving on it is easier. I say this as someone who lived in Wisconsin for over 10 years. The state universities are excellent! Public transportation is scandalous for its absence. This is a major issue!
I'm a Yooper. We average over 200" of snow a year and winter lasts 9 months, but you will adapt to it. I love it here. My basement is full of crap I have to go through. Yes prices are going up but still a lot less expensive than when I worked in California. No basement there either.

Hi Paul, just curious but did they even fix the high car insurance in Michigan? I moved away 13 years ago and from what I remember car insurance was the highest in the united states.
Living in Chicago, where we often get the storms the day before Michigan, I find it funny when schools are closed in Michigan long before the weather even arrives. Chicago Public Schools seem to wait until there's at least a foot of snow WITH sub zero temps before they will close, while schools in Michigan won't take any chances and close even if it turns out to be a false alarm. I own a condo here and always intended to move back to Michigan one day to buy a house because the houses in Chicago cost much more. But Michigan's homes have really jumped up in price in recent years so I'm unsure of my plans now.
I did not know about the ADU name, but one thing I’ve known for quite a while is that financial institutions in the state of Michigan will not grant financing for properties that have two separate living structures. You can by a duplex or quad plex, or whatever apartment building as long as they are one structure. A complex is a commercial facility. A piece of land with two living structures may be allowed that financing if the city/county allows for the zoning to be set up for that. A residential property with two living structures would either have to be divided into two different residents, and sold with two different titles, or the purchaser will have to come to the table with actual cash.

I can live anywhere I want, and I love to live in Michigan. You forgot to mention our wonderful weather except for in the winter. Some people like snow, and those of us who don't like it appreciate our spring weather and flowers more. There's no public transportation outside of cities anywhere, not just Michigan. Get over it, it's nice here. We use natural foliage for fencing. And I've lived in previous suburbs that have fencing. I used to live in Calif and missed the seasons. Sounds like you only cater to the rich.
I lived in the thumb area and you don't want a basement, everyone I know had flooring, cracks in the wall and foundation problems. The water table is shallow, drill a well.
I moved out of Michigan after having lived there my whole life in many different areas, ., the roads are horrendous, and the road construction has literally been constant all over for the past 25 years, the winters are WAY too long and cold. you rarely see the sun, which may explain why the people are kinda grumpy and no fun in general,, and one of the biggest things.. the drivers.. some of the rudest and arrogant drivers in the world are right there.. if you move there be prepared to be constantly tailgated no matter what speed you are going, and even if its solid ice outside. Oh and the salting of the roads.. they salt constantly in the winter even when it doesn't need it so plan on your car getting eaten by rust within three years.
I actually thought of you today. There is this massive mansion being built on Pontiac Trail, down the street from the owner of Home Medics. It’s massive! It’s a U shaped, limestone house.
You don’t know shit I’ve lived in the state most of my life and it’s a hell of a lot better than any other ones out there which I’ve lived in a lot of of them.
live in North County San Diego and I look at lake homes in Michigan all the time. Just need to get to a place where I can leave for 3-4 months every year.
Saginaw, Flint, all the big cities avoid like the plague. Scary to drive through even. Out of cities now and going into one I feel claustrophobic and head on a swivel.
All of you must love the car insurance ridiculous prices, the gas prices and of course the way grocery prices are three times what they were. How will they ever go down when no one acknowledges them
A lot of construction lol. Ive seen construction barrels on atv trails in the northern LP. Not to mention how they're working on every freeway in metro Detroit at the same time rn.
Bro, love your vids. I do, but traffic out here is atrocious. I lived in Indiana, Fort Wayne area, and Ohio, greater Cleveland, and it's worse than both of those areas. I live on the far end of Novi, and it took me 45 plus minutes to get to the Dunkin that's also in Novi, due to construction and it being "rush hour", which is a great deal of the day. I'm sure it's less compared to most major metropolitan areas like, New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, but it is way worse compared to nearby metro areas. Metro Detroit collectively is the second biggest metro area in the mid-west, and it shows in the traffic and extremely long commutes.
😅 yeah - I definitely mean compared to places like NY and LA - all of the people I help move here from those areas rave about how great the drive times are.
Being a retired outside Sales Manager for 35 years, I could drive in my going for the Sales 100 miles on any given day everyday in God awful weather and I find timing and weather is key in everything avoiding back ups and that one timid driver that keeps tapping that damn break and chain reaction. 😅😅😅
I was born and raised in north Florida (Gainesville) and have lived as far north as Hillman, MI, west of Alpena. Don't shake your head at those of us who grew up w/o basements! In Florida, if you dig a basement chances are good you'll be in the water table. For that matter, our 5 years in Hillman, the sump pump died twice, flooding the basement and causing black mold on the dry wall a previous resident had put in. And fences aren't always great. We now live in western NC and last fall I investigated a crack I heard in the back yard when I was out front. The crack was the black bear that had climbed over the back fence, breaking part of the fence in the process. sigh. At least the wild turkeys don't bother the fence.
Help me, Paul! You're my only hope! I'm moving my 76yo mother and self, both considered retired, back home to Michigan after 30+ years. We want to live in an old (and cheap, needs work kind of place) house or cabin in the woods...but the reports about certain illegal activities in the trees are kind of scaring us out of that. We don't know which area to move into -- we just know we want to live far enough away from the family so that they have to actually plan ahead to visit.😆 Which is the greater Detroit area. In addition, Mom doesn't want to live anywhere in SW Michigan (?given me no logical explanation?) and I'm afraid to move anywhere too politically...um...divided. I'm thinking purple and neutral and calm. We're coming from Florida.🙄 Since neither of us have been home for decades we're having trouble separating fact from rumor. We know we probably can't go too rural for reasons mentioned and smaller cities that haven't yet been weaponized are perfectly fine. I'm making us sound crazier than we actually are. I am aware of that.😅 TL;DR Upper or lower doesn't matter; woodsy, cheap and safe are the priorities. Any chance there's a region with our name on it?
Been here since 1973!!! A lot has changed in the last 10 years alone especially. Traffic has grown hugely! This is strange since supposedly our population hasn’t really grown much. I’d like that explained. Home prices not the relative bargain they were for the last 30 years. And they’ve spread out much further into the countryside. Again I don’t understand all the new homes I see if the population is stagnate. Property taxes are very stiff for new buyers, I believe this is under stated nor understood. I think the COL is decent, although it depends where you are. Actually up north living is fairly expensive. Michigan is a great place overall. The cloudy dank winters do get a bit oppressive after a couple months, but June through oct can’t be beat. 😊
Construction, Car destroying salt.. Liberals.. Detroit/Flint/Saginaw are ghetto.. Snow is one thing but 7 months of cold and grey winter is the worst.. Gas is expensive, flat and boring terrain, roads suck.... Tons of taxes and expensive car insurance.. I can't wait to move out down south..
Cold and cloudy most of the time. There's a reason for all that water. Lots of rain and snow, and very little evaporation. Summer is GREAT...for a few short months. Winter SUCKS! You've never seen so many fat people like in Michigan. In Grand Rapids they have a saying..."If you're not Dutch, you're not much." I always loved the forests, but after reaching retirement I moved to Ecuador.
My parents fled there in 67. I fled a burbs near there 8 years just in time. Very dangerous in no time. After crime starting and a shooting behind the house, I called my realtor cousin to sell the place.
@@toddd7444 Well there was a stalker too. Crazy af. Delusional, bi polar and narcissistic. Had guns and if you've been institutionalized not supposed to have them or can't buy one at a shop. To those who want to move here, especially the metro Detroit area, please be forewarned about the poor job market here. 60% of jobs in Wayne county do NOT pay a middle class salary. Michigan has one of the worst job markets in the nation. Companies are afraid to come here because of the rapid population decline. Most companies that do come here, are usually customer service based, or manufacturing. However, I did hear that engineers, and some trades can thrive here. But, if you can, definitely look into other states, as they have way better opportunities than Michigan.
Engineering and tech are both huge here - most of my clients are making much more than middle class salary and have moved here from states like California and Texas.
@@PaulWolfert Right, but everyone is not in tech, or engineering. And tech is not even all that great in the metro Detroit area. Massive layoffs, and low balling wages. And what area are your clients in anyways? I said Metro Detroit area is struggling with jobs, and your clients don’t represent the mass of job seekers here too. I work in Supply Chain/Logistics, a sector of tech and I’m severely underpaid. Also, the info is out there, Michigan does NOT have a healthy job market, no matter how hard you try to sugar coat it.
Michigan has paid dearly with NAFTA and CHINA since early 2000s. So many people displaced from good paying factory jobs that were part of communities for decades. Some a century. Big difference from the 1990s when i grew up.
The headlines on your videos make Detroit and all of Michigan look horrible. If I was considering moving there I would never even watch the vid after reading the headline..Why do you do that?? It seems like you are selling things in MI but you tell people how horrible it is before they can view the "information" - You're advertising it to be a very bad bad place to go or live...
Thanks for the feedback! Hope you watched a few 🙂 Unfortunately, that's the way TH-cam works. Negative thumbnails outperform positive ones BUT, the information isn't negative. I've made a lot of positive thumbnails and the videos completely tank until I change them.

God's way of getting a good laugh. So you thought you could do that? Ha ha! Droughts that challenge your Ingenuity.
Moved to SW Michigan in 2020, Worse state ive lived in out of the 10 i've lived in. Horrible Peoples Attitude, Homlessness is crazy, Small Cities like Kalamazoo have more homeless than Seattle..., and let snot talk about 6 months of winter...
I have found People are much nicer since I moved South. Michigan is not cheap whatsoever. In Florida now and it's a toss up financially. I can make more money in Michigan but then there are State taxes, higher housing and property taxes. People think Florida is expensive but my Florida house would double in price if I put it in Oakland county. Gas and Insurance are always high too.

It does not actually suck, then, it's more like the in between of Cali and the east coast
I love it here
I lived in the thumb area and you don't want a basement, everyone I know had flooring, cracks in the wall and foundation problems. The water table is shallow, drill a well.
wht lies Michihan is not the 14th cheapest state in the us
I moved out of Michigan after having lived there my whole life in many different areas, ., the roads are horrendous, and the road construction has literally been constant all over for the past 25 years, the winters are WAY too long and cold. you rarely see the sun, which may explain why the people are kinda grumpy and no fun in general,, and one of the biggest things.. the drivers.. some of the rudest and arrogant drivers in the world are right there.. if you move there be prepared to be constantly tailgated no matter what speed you are going, and even if its solid ice outside. Oh and the salting of the roads.. they salt constantly in the winter even when it doesn't need it so plan on your car getting eaten by rust within three years.
I live in Oklahoma and Im thinking about moving to Michigan I’m originally from Colorado and I can honestly say I miss the show
If you decide to move here, let me know! www.movingmi.com/info/TH-cam 😀
I actually thought of you today. There is this massive mansion being built on Pontiac Trail, down the street from the owner of Home Medics. It’s massive! It’s a U shaped, limestone house.
I'd love to check out both of those places!
You don’t know shit I’ve lived in the state most of my life and it’s a hell of a lot better than any other ones out there which I’ve lived in a lot of of them.
Did you actually watch the video? 😂 - I've lived here all my life.
live in North County San Diego and I look at lake homes in Michigan all the time. Just need to get to a place where I can leave for 3-4 months every year.
Moving from Florida to Mount Clemens
Excited
Leaving arizona for Michigan
Let me know if I can help! 👉 www.movingmi.com
I've lived in Michigan for 67 years now.
The 2 worst things about Michigan are Detroit (Don't go there)and its governor.
FGW
It sounds like you have a lot of experience here in Michigan!
@@PaulWolfert Born and raised a have no desire to be any where else
Saginaw, Flint, all the big cities avoid like the plague. Scary to drive through even. Out of cities now and going into one I feel claustrophobic and head on a swivel.
@@JNoMooreNumbers I know exactly how you feel.
I won't drive in Detroit EVER
Love our Governor and Detroit. Go Tigers and Go Blue!
San Diego native who already has a house in Custer Michigan, just haven't moved there yet.
Nice! What made you pick Michigan?
Go to Arizona , much lower taxes and much better roads.
That's what I did. Way too hot here,
All of you must love the car insurance ridiculous prices, the gas prices and of course the way grocery prices are three times what they were. How will they ever go down when no one acknowledges them
Um, this is America... prices will never go down. They never do.
Doesn't matter who's in the White House either.
@@MonaLisaVito-c8rYou forgot low job prospects too
Fences - we don't need no stinkin' fences! Snow is not a "con" - learn to live with it and enjoy it.
motorboating with the pontoon there's a song about that
Watching from Bakersfield ca. it’s hell here. Planning to come to mi
That’s because you are living on that side of town where everyone’s mom told them they were special. This attitude is especially true when driving.
I live in Clarkston and there's pretty much zero traffic unless there's a big concert.
Being a retired outside Sales Manager for 35 years, I could drive in my going for the Sales 100 miles on any given day everyday in God awful weather and
I find timing and weather is key in everything avoiding back ups and that one timid driver that keeps tapping that damn break and chain reaction. 😅😅😅
in mich i'd snow sky 2x per week at mt holly in utah i haven been once
I was born and raised in north Florida (Gainesville) and have lived as far north as Hillman, MI, west of Alpena. Don't shake your head at those of us who grew up w/o basements! In Florida, if you dig a basement chances are good you'll be in the water table. For that matter, our 5 years in Hillman, the sump pump died twice, flooding the basement and causing black mold on the dry wall a previous resident had put in.
And fences aren't always great. We now live in western NC and last fall I investigated a crack I heard in the back yard when I was out front. The crack was the black bear that had climbed over the back fence, breaking part of the fence in the process. sigh. At least the wild turkeys don't bother the fence.
oh and how they calculate taxed on lake front homes but i'd move back in a heart beat
I am aware of that.😅
TL;DR Upper or lower doesn't matter; woodsy, cheap and safe are the priorities. Any chance there's a region with our name on it?
What illegal activities?
@@Mr.Smith101 Rhymes with Beth. The only thing that really scares me about the woods.
@@Mr.Smith101 Hmmm...my comment disappeared. Let's try it this way: It rhymes with Beth. That's the only thing that truly scares me about the woods.
Port Huron, thumb area. 60 minutes from Detroit on the freeway. End of I-94. On Lake Huron.
@@breecampbell3829 Thank you so much! That's really helpful. Mom's always loved the thumb.
You forgot to mention safety from natural disasters due to the great lakes
Detroit it's entire history has had the worst transit system of any metro city of its size.
Come on down to Texas! Thats what I did.. so glad to be out of that winter wonderland
Cold and cloudy most of the time.
There's a reason for all that water.
Lots of rain and snow, and very little evaporation.
Summer is GREAT...for a few short months.
Winter SUCKS!
You've never seen so many fat people like in Michigan.
In Grand Rapids they have a saying..."If you're not Dutch, you're not much."
I always loved the forests, but after reaching retirement I moved to Ecuador.
You're right about everyone being overweight..its unbelievable.. and crabby too....
Holy panel gaps Paul. Maybe it's time to service the Porsche?

Michigan will get much better once Whitmer, Nessel & Benson are replaced. Much much better. Similar to what Trump will do on national level.
Let's think a minute. The west, fire, earthquake, landslides, and droughts.
East coast, those pesky Hurricanes, that can rearrange your life. The mid west, oh yeah. Those lovely tornadoes. God's way of getting a good laugh. So you thought you could do that? Ha ha! Droughts that challenge your Ingenuity.
Michigan... unsalted!

Don't move to Michigan. You won't like it... The people aren't very friendly.
