Dominick Guerra Yeah, the video's on Evan's channel and has is an "Evans performance". I'm not sure, but I think Payte may of been joking, seeing as this is an Evans video, to show off the Evans drumheads, but Matt spends half the video in his cymbals. :)

Went to this guy's drum camp a few weeks back, one of the best drummers I know, and one of the coolest dudes too! Such a nice guy, he taught us so much about groove
Some of the beats I was hearing in this video, were really shammy at points, and I think that's because he was playing at such a godlike level that mortals and immortals alike could not comprehend its beauty.
Man he squeezes every nuance out of that set. He really is a master in his own way, which really what more could you ask from an artist.
I really can't stand most metal/screamo band drummers but you def have some jazzy/funk kind of styles to your playing, which I do admire. You really know how to keep a nice groove without the need for constant fills or double bass. Good work Matt. I guess you being with Yamaha was a lie then huh? =/
He did though I saw some vids but I guess he's with Mapex again I guess?
Matt was with Mapex and then was with Yamaha promoting the new oak live customs. However last year idk if you guys saw, Yamaha has moved all production of its kit except the PHX kit to OUTSIDE of japan. The kits will now be produced in Taiwan and China. This caused issues with touring musicians, as well as Matt only used Yamaha for a few clinic from what ive seen.

***** Yeah A LOT of people are pissed about it. Its that whole "Made in China/Taiwan" thing that's got people ruffled up. I can see why, lets just hope quality doesn't suffer. Kinda killing a heritage of "Made in Japan" they had that whole hand crafted with old technique yada yada thing. We shall see.
Why on Earth would they stop making them in Japan? The kit I got was a beautiful, hand crafted one from there?? Oh my =/

I love Matt, but I lately I've been realizing that he is so boring. And I've also noticed that he tends to revert to parts of his songs whenever he solos. Like, as a drummer, I want to see something new, something I can't do.
He has the best drumming faces ever !
I really like that ride but it has such a narrow range of uses to justify paying upwards of $400 for it.

Have played with the same set for a year (not the same drums and heads or cymbals, but the set up is the same) then I stumbled onto this guy a week ago. My God, this must be the world's best drummer (if there is such an recognition ??) Anyway. Incredible to see what one can do with the snare, hats, and one floor tom. How do you usually say in English, less is more?

Amazing! Groove and pocket and technical ability. Flawless and perfect!
He's kind of like a more rocked/djented out Mark Guiliana. Not a lot of hand to hand drumming, his solos are like a giant syncopated groove, where even the fills are grooves.
That's a compliment by the way, Him and Guiliana are a couple of my favorite drummers.

LOVE the snare and tom sound, but I fell the bass drum was just OK. I think the single, thinner ply emad would sound better, though Matt would probably destroy one of those pups real fast.
Great drummer. I dont think he showed half for what he is good for thought. (Perisphery is everything i wished Avenged Sevenfold was :D)
Matt is certainly a talented drummer and doesn't feel the need to throw everything he plays into a 5 minute video. This is just a musical sample of what he was feeling at that moment.

+fatbeer85 Matt has spent a lot of time working with a click and playing around the beat with metric modulation and polyrhythms. This allows him to create different rhythmic illusions while maintaining the beat and knowing where 1 is. Try tapping quarter notes while listen to him play.

I've been a guitarist for about 20 years and drums are now my favorite instrument.
I love hearing drummers like him and gartska when the recording sounds really raw like this. It's not as pleasing to the ear but you can hear a different level of detail.

+Shreyas Gune i'd say singles 16 notes at slow tempo (maybe 120 bmp or less if you can't keep it good) for about 3 min and then speed it up eventually. do that for almost 2 weeks and you'll see the results bro
+Renmy Cardozo thanks a ton man. I was pretty perplexed by how methodically Matt places doublets, triplets and quadruplets in his bass drum patterns. I will start out with this exercise and then build from there on. Let me know if you have more exercises I can do.
