still come back to this video every now and again. one of those evergreen, feel-good things you don't get much more on the internet. love Matt's playing, and love how happy everyone is to enjoy it together. love the trombone player. love just the energy of being present with the art, dancing, bobbing along, and just having a good time.
Wow, an amazing musician Matt is! My friend Eric just showed me this video. I'm the bone player. Thanks for those of you sticking up for me but its alright, people always have an opinion. I used musician's etiquette by asking him if I could. I would never just start improvising over someone. As a jazz musician, knowing that's just rude. Just planned on taking a brief solo, then he told me to keep it going, so I did and had a great time! Yeah linear grooves aren't common in jazz and bop neither.
To me, this is what music is about. It's not only about passion, meaning, and emotion, it's about bringing people together, people you don't even know, and just having fun. It brings people together and truly is the universal language. Gotta love music man haha and kudos to Matt man, such a talented guy.
i absolutely love how by the end he has a gigantic crowd having a rave, and a trombonist. and all from playing a drum solo. what an epic beast of a drummer!
What's funniest is that they don't know what they're hearing. If they had heard this with the other band members, they would have hated it. Edit: I recently came back to this video because it was in my recommended five years after this original comment. I was a dumb teenager who thought my holier-than-thou metal attitude was cool and unique. It's not. What I wrote above this edit is a dumb thing to say-even though it may be true-and is gatekeepy as fuck. It keeps other people away from the genre because it tells them that they can never understand these things on the same level as us EnLiGhTeNeD mEtAl LiStEnErS. It's not good for the scene. Don't be like 16-year-old Reverie, friends.
Because musical ideas can have dramatically different meanings depending on context. The Make Total Destroy drum groove by itself is, well, groovy, fun, moreso if it's impromptu on a random street. With the whole band behind it, it becomes a rather heavy metal song, with a strong emotional idea, and that's just not to the liking of certain people who might enjoy the drum groove on its own.
In all honesty, most of the people there were drunk or something, but that's one good way of promoting your band... So long as Matt advertised who he was at the location other than just being some anonymous drummer with mad skills
Funny how the conglomeration of people was, at first slow, but then Matt turned it into a mad house...lol-I'm flabbergasted by Matts drumming...hats off!

Ha, not impressed? You have absolutely no clue about music at all if you think this dude isn't talented, listen to his drumming with Periphery, and try to dissect his patterns and play them hit for hit...maybe that will change your mind
Yep, I agree. Yes, you might be able to play a couple of notes here and there but can you actually PLAY it? There is a difference.
Why are people dissing the horn dude? That is what music is right there. Bringing people together, dancing, and right there is sharing the love. So many idiodic people have lost sight of what music is! Don't over think is so much. GOOD TUNES IS GOOD TUNES
