    I have been a Type 1 for over 50 years and not dead yet!! I received a free Sencer and reader from the diabetic nurse here in New Zealand. Sadly, replacement Sencers are not funded here and are really very expensive. I must admit, I really like it, great to get instant results without finger pricking and test strips. I think it will enable better control and less danger of low readings at night. The alarms are very welcome, but I only use the low alarm.

    Former Army Medic here. I got over my needle issues when we trained by shooting each other. My understanding is that modern needles are Teflon coated. Except for IVs I've felt nothing for years.

    Hi Andrea. I have been diabetic for over thirty years, I eventually got my Libra2 last week on the NHS, so luckily I don’t have to pay the hight price for it. Having an iPhone I loaded the app and now I can see my readings at any time without having to scan the reader which I have put back in the box in case I need it in the future.As long as your phone is near by, it continuously monitors your readings.it really is great, and I can keep my levels in the green section very easily, and my fingers are very happy not to be pricked numerous times a day. Thanks for a great video.

    My wife had these . for 6 months couldn't use them because some had needles , some did not, some needles were laying loose. Company had no idea and said they were not supposed to have needles. The 2 piece contraption would occasional destroy itself, even making sure the black marks were aligned.She is lucky now to have 1 of 3 actually work without falling apart, loosing needles, or destroying itself

    Hey there! I also use the Freestyle Libre2 CGM. I absolutely love it! I do have issues sometimes with failure but Abbott, the man, is always great about replacements. Sometimes they request to have them sent back for quality so they can continue to improve their product. I came in with the 2 so I have had the alarms since the beginning, I LOVE the security of knowing it's watching out for me when I may not watch those lows or be asleep. I don't know about you but I've never felt more in control of my T2 self, it's nice to feel like I have an edge in helping myself so much more with a CGM! Game changer! Life changer! I've been on it for about a year now & my A1c's are getting better over time! That first time putting it on, yah, that needle! Eww! Most of the time, unless you hit a nerve, you're good and it's not as bad as that needle looks at that SLAM sound! LOL

    I often find that my Freestyle Libre 1 does give low readings for the first 12 hours or more. A couple of months ago I found a tip to get around this, just insert it 24 hours before you activate it. That seems to work a treat!

      I agree totally with you about inaccuracies with this device. If I was a type 1 diabetic I would look at one of the more premium solutions you have already reviewed. I am a type 2 and largely using Keto to control blood glucose with a great deal of success and the simplicity of this device has been a tremendous support :-)

    • @englishpete22
      @englishpete22 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@edtechslog i wouldn't be so quick to write the Freestyle Libre, it's been life changing for me since shifting over from finger prick tests. Yes, the readings can be a bit out if you start it immediately after inserting it, which is why I always apply a new one the night before my old one is due to expire to give it at least 12 hours to bed in. For anyone who takes the time to read up on how they work, it doesn't take the reading from blood like a finger prick test, but rather the fluid that lies below the blood vessels, which means there's usually a lag of 15 minutes between the CGM and a blood glucose reading from a finger prick test, hence why two readings taken at the same time on the different devices wouldn't correlate. this is why many medical professionals advocate using the Freestyle as a day-to-day CGM, but fall back on a blood glucose finger prick test when experiencing a low

    Thank you so much for your excellently explained video. I have had diabetes type 1 for 46 years and have had all varying types of finger pricking devices (some I swear were a form of torture). I even remember before finger pricking when I used to go off litmus sticks with urine but that gave an answer that was very belated, so not at all efficient. Anyway I have just this morning received a letter telling me that I’m going to be sent a freestyle libre 2 on the British NHS. Of course the first thing I did was come to this video to see how things are done. Brilliant - thank you. Brenda, Cheshire, England.

I don't have to scan ever or prick to get my son's readings and I get alarms whenever his glucose levels are out of range. I can also connect it directly to Apple watch to get standalone readings. More of a suprise is the fact the dispensing date is 19.07.2022 and yet nobody told me it was waiting for collection! Having watched your video i then came to realise i need a reader!! My mother has type two and has had this device for the past 3 weeks and with all the instructions and all the stuff in the box it came in I thought I'd need to take a 8 week university course to learn how it works. Now I know I can have her start using it today when she wakes up. Yesterday was her 95 birthday and it was not as planned. Her sugar levels ended up being 278 and she was acting listless and out of it. I had to give her a shot (my first time ever) she has been diabetic since 1997. She has always managed testing her sugar levels and giving herself injections. Yesterday 6/16/22 was the first time she has had to have insulin in about 4 1/2 weeks. Her doctor placed her on a sliding scale. If her sugar levels were below 200 no insulin and moving up in incremental levels of 50 points she would take 2,4,6 etc. However until yesterday her levels have staid between 125 and 150 for one day shy of 5 weeks. Thank you for taking the time to make your videos this has truly been a God send and helps to relieve my monumental stress now that I must now assist her with monitoring her testing.
    By the way I've met a few super-models and celebrated film actresses in my life time. You are equally if not far more beautiful than the one I've met without their makeup. Even thought about gracing the screens outside of TH-cam?????

    Hi Andrea,
    Thankyou so much for this video. I was so excited to see you were showing the freestyle libre 2.
    They will be available in Australia in the next couple of months, so looking forward to that.
    To have alarms will be amazing , compared to my freestyle libre 1, that I have been using for the last 3 years. No more night fears of sneaky bad hypos. 👍❤ (I ended up getting some normality back with my highs by having low carb meals, so have been able to drop long acting insulin back again)

    Love this video. You covered every step of the Libre2 quite nicely! The noise is what scares me, but it also sounds like a stamp machine, so I also imagine that I'm stamping myself with a picture of an animal. lol 😃 I also touched the needle (after use, of course) and it's the thickness of three human hairs -not thick like a finger stick device. This eased my mind, and I don't fear inserting my Libre2! Oh, and watching you insert the Libre1 in your previous video certainly calmed my fear, too! 🥰

    When I was deciding between Dexcom and Libre back in 2018, I had first through about Libre because (silly, yes) swiping looked cool and it was cheaper, as I recall. In the end, I went with Dexcom because of the alarms, which I need because of hypo-unawareness. I love Dexcom and will be sticking (no adhesive pun intended) with it, but the high and low alarms with the new Libre, might make for a tougher call. (Or would have had it been on the Libre then.)

    • @ShesDiabetic
      @ShesDiabetic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I TOTALLY get the concept of swiping looking/feeling cooler - no judgment here!!! I think hands down the Dexcom is the better choice, as it provides so so so much more data an customization, not to mention accuracy, but I also understand that sadly, it's not in everyone's budget - bottom line - I'm just thrilled you have something that works well for you! That's what it's all about I think!!! 💙🥰

    The delay is due to these devices measuring glucose levels in your interstitial fluid beneath the skin. I’ve been diabetic for 30yrs and I use the Libre 2 and the readings are about 3 - 5 mins behind. This is normal it will never be as accurate as a finger prick test but it’s awesome all the same.

      Just make sure your smartphone is one of FreeStyle2's compatible cellphones and that it has the required level of operating systems. Also, if you want to use alarms, you must start the sensor on which you want the alarms to appear. You can have alarms on the reader or the cellphone but not both.
