It’s amazing all the technology for t1d these days! I’ve been type 1 since 1965, you can only imagine…now I can’t wait to change my G6 to a G7.

Wow, you've really seen it all! What a legend! My late great uncle was Type 1 and he was born in 1913. I believe he was diagnosed around the advent of Insulin. I can't imagine what trouble he went through over the years just to stay alive, but he ended up living to a ripe old age of 93!

    • @jackschitt6235
      @jackschitt6235 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Wow! I was born in 1965. Are you still in good health? Did you get interested early on in maintaining the best possible control with a strict diet? I read Dr Bernstein's book many years ago. I don't know if you are familiar with his story of course. He got type ONE at 11 and is alive and even active here on TH-cam at 88! He follows a very low carb diet and has normal glucose all the time. He doesn't agree that an A1C of 7 is good enough. He eats so little carbohydrate that he doesn't even use fast acting insulin. He thinks the diabetics who eat just like everyone else/whatever they want do develop complications eventually. He says it's next to impossible to not have rollercoaster 🎢 blood sugars if you eat lots of carbohydrate and use lots of fast acting insulin. Others feel that now with pumps and CGM's it is possible to eat however you want and still maintain good control. Any thoughts about about any of this?

Quiet mode is cool! That’s a good feature for attending live performances like the theater or cirque du soleil where an alarm could be quite disruptive! :)

Agreed. I can think of many situations where a brief pause in the alarms would be good: wedding ceremonies, funerals, job interviews, etc. I keep mine on vibrate-only most of the time, and don't usually mind it, but even that could be awkward in a job interview.

I have a question. I live in US and just last month I got my second G6 unit. When the G7 is released in US will they eventually replace all G6s or will I have to wait 5 years again for new unit.

    • @MS-bo6jc
      @MS-bo6jc ปีที่แล้ว

I too have a quick question and that is in the concern of having sensor failures being replaced all day long as one dexcom employee stated …. is not an issue. But replacing the transmitter when there’s problems is a big issue.
How does this reflect with the G7? As my child is hit or miss on a vein and the blood will come rushing out.
So my concern is, will Dexcom still be as wonderful as they had been with a G6 with the G7 in regards to bleeding issues and failures with replacing right away?

Wow, thanks for the information. I recently dropped my HbA1C down from 11 to 6.8 using the DEXCOM G6. It gives me the confidence I need to use a bit more insulin because I know that the alarms have my back. That said, the greater accuracy, the smaller footprint, the faster warm-up, and the integration of Clarity into the app makes me very, very happy.

    Thank you for the upload.
I’ve been type 1 for over 30 years. I’ve been on the G6 for 2 1/2 years, such a great sensor. Though I have those issues of it coming off before the 10 days end. I end up putting another overlay patch on. I’ve been trying to get my hb1c under 7 for a very long time. And guess what it happened yesterday 6.9%, and today 6.8 on the clarity app.
I am so excited for the G7 as I do knock my current sensor often. The G7 looks so much smaller and is round, instead of the oval shaped G6. I look forward to seeing more vids on the G7. I live in Australia I’m 46 and I’m waiting on the G7 to be approved here. I’ve already got a email indicating some big changes this. I’m excited 😊 🦋

Wonderful review, thank you. I'm looking at reviews for a new pump and CGM system and the G7 is the CGM that will be included in whichever I choose. I love the 30-minute warmup, with overlapping stats from the old sensor. Much better than the 2-hour warmup and 6-hour multiple calibration I had to do with the Medtronic sensors I've used previously.

I can identify with all the issues of diabetes I have been a type 1 diabetic for 37 years, I think I've seen it all, I also remember my aurt boiling needles to give my uncle shots when I was a kid. I'm almost 70 now, I've been using the Tandem t:slim insulin pump with the Dexcom G6 for about a year and a half now just like you've been using. This set up sure beats testing with finger sticks 5 times a day and the old pork and beef insulin I started out using 37 yrs ago. Technology sure has come a long way and it has saved my wife from making those 911 calls from when I would go into diabetic comas, the Tandem - Dexcom set up is truly a life savior for me. Love your informative videos keep up the great work on the new items coming out for us type 1's.

The silent mode is definitely appreciated. I found my own ways of making it silent, like a system do not disturb mode on a phone or just turning it off for a while, but having it built in is nice. I've been out of school for a long time now, but back before I had a glucose monitor and was just on an insulin pump, if I got an unexpected low insulin alert or other error on my insulin pump in class, it was like a nightmare. Having more easily accessible control over that is very nice

The reduction in lag time will help in this case, too, but I've induced so many blood sugar roller coaster rides by over-treating just to get the G6 to stop alerting. Yes , our 5 year old made the switch a month ago (in the U.S.) total game changer on the warm up time and the smaller lighter device for his tiny arms!can't believe we ever waited that 2 hrs in changeouts . We always use the overpatch. So far no issues with any of them coming off! We did have to call dexcom on first one, found out we hadn't removed the G6 app completely off phone and it waned to interfere with new G7 sensor....So heads up when switching u have to remove old app entirely off device.

I was diagnosed 47 years ago (When surviving a Type I Diagnosis by 25 years was considered remarkable!) and started with five drops of urine in the test tube to test my glucose levels. It was essentially useless, but it was all that was available. Then after several technological false starts, I started doing real-time "finger sticks" four times a day. This allowed much better control. Now I've been on G6 for the last 2 years and, while I do not like its accuracy variations, I have come to rely on it. It has awakened me with low-level alarms a number of times, and that, I really have to say, is what makes the system so valuable.
Waiting for G7 with more than mild anticipation!
Please tell me if and how frequently the G7 gives "Sensor Error -- Please Wait."

I am 65 yrs old and have been a type 1 since age 9. I remember also doing the urine test for sugar in the test tube. Crazy looking back then too what is happening now. It's like going from the stone ages to space age technology also remembering my mom had to sterilize a glass syringe with no disposable syringes at that time.

I have also been diabetic for a long time, just over 52 years, and remember the glass stainless syringe, and urine test, that test told you too late there was a problem, I got reasonably good at feeling the high so would just do a calculated guess to fix it. My endocrinologist then said I had better control than other patients. I went on to blood tests when they became available. I have been on Dexcom G6 CGM for 6 months and TSlim pump for a month, 2 weeks in bolus mode then iq switched on after basal rates established, Much less to carry around, but at considerable cost. Still worth it.

I am going to be getting an Omnipod five pretty soon, and luckily I’ve already had the Dexcom G6 for 8+ months, and after watching your video, I can’t wait until the G7 is compatible with the Omnipod five. Hopefully with this one we can put it on opposite arms or opposite sides of our body, and that way even our own body won’t be an interference between the two.

Sounds pretty good. Addresses most of the deficiencies of the G6 software/firmware that pushed me to use xDrip and Anubis, with a couple of extra features. Looking forward to trying it out in a couple of years when it finally gets released here (probably around the time they start advertising G8).

Yeah, the shorter warm-up period, overlapping sensors, and grace period cover many of the issues, and probably were also put in place for better integration with closed-loop systems. With the G6, unless you do some trickery with older transmitters and such, you can't have an uninterrupted sensor feed, so the closed loop has to be paused for up to a day.

I've just put my second g7, after wearing the g6 for several years. My warm up period was 22 minutes for the first one, and 25 minutes for this one. So far I am very happy with the g7.

The quiet mode is something that not interest me but I can imagine that it is something interesting for many others. But that you have the option to warm it up in such a short time while you are still using the previous one I found a huge step forward! Also that you can provide more alarm profiles and sounds like more different alarms I found also a step forward. That is something I found that with the G6 is to less.
The better accuracy and less time difference between the measurement and reality is also a huge improvement! That is I believe with the current G6 about 15 minutes. Reducing that to 3,5 minutes is great!
Would I change now? Not yet because it is not yet integrated with the tandem system. I hope there come soon an update that this will provide. And secondly it must become then also part of the convention of the Belgium social security system. When both of those are OK, I believe I will the first asking the hospital when it is possible to change too.
When this will lead to a drop in price for the G6 that would be also a good thing because that means that the technology becomes more available to more patients. The Tandem X2 / Dexcom G6 is already an incredible system. I was yesterday at the hospital and had a Hemoglobin A16 of 5,3% with this system! I'm proud on that. This with being less then 4% lower then 70 mg/dl. So is already an great combination.

LOVE THE G7!! My son is switching from Libre 2 to the G7 and I’m floored at the differences! Another thing that is GREAT about the G7 is the alarms. I don’t know about the G6 but I love that the G7 has alarms that do not sound like a fire alarm. Nobody wants to wake up to that sound at 4 in the morning for example, or have it go off in public. The only thing that is not so high on my list is the proximity factor. You must stay within 20 feet of the app. That can be a little difficult especially when you live in a 2 story house. Hoping that range may be extended in the G8 whenever that comes out. Aside from that detail it’s definitely a game changer!

Oh I'm so glad to hear you guys are loving the G7 so much!!! This is fantastic! Super interesting about the proximity - I've not had that issue, but I pretty much am glued to my phone so 😬 - but I can totally imagine that being problematic especially from different floors of your home! Just glad to hear that overall it's working so well for you!!!

I have had lot's of sensor error issues messages on my first G7 sensor. The Bluetooth range also seems much shorter with the G7 than with the G6. The G6 seems like a rock solid workhorse. I think the G7 has some room for improvement. I am committed now for three months, hopefully it get better.

  • @Mels_Memories13

For me with low alerts especially at church, the G7 quite mode is awesome. Especially when your sleeping at night. Between 5 and 6 am, I get low alerts and I do eat before I go to bed. Though it difficult to know which food to eat at 9 or 10 pm.
I guess it’s the same as the G6, not it’s not painful at all. The G6 is starting to come off 5 days before expiring, so I place another overlay on it.
I am so looking forward to it being subside however, I live in Australia so it may be able at the end of 2023

I have been T1D for 15 years now and been of pumps for 7 years and a Dexcom G6 for about 3 years. I am thankful my Endo Dr is pro-active as am I. My last 2 A1Cs have been 5.7. While I have constant accuracy issues with the G6 and other cgms because of lag I am glad to hear the G7 is tighter. Will I give up finger sticks? Not anytime soon. About the only time I have found a cgm to be accurate is when my blood sugars are flat lined. I can say, its nice to see when things are rising and falling though. But I finger stick for accuracy sake for delivering insulin to this day. Nice information on the G7 and look forward to changing over soon.
