    My wife's doctor told her to go to freestyle libre to watch a video. We watched it, and I saw your video in the "recommended" list and suggested we watch it and it was sooooo much more interesting and informative (my wife eyes and ears were glued to it). I'm still trying to figure out why you have any dislikes at all.

      Oh I'm so sorry to hear of your son's recent diagnosis. This is surely a very difficult time for you and your family. I promise things will get better and easier. You are so welcome. This is exactly why I wanted to make this channel, because support from doctor's is all well and good, and extremely important, but really we also need support and help and guidance as a community, because it's a disease that is with us 24/7. I hope you and your family and especially your son are doing better and managing okay. Thinking of you at this time, and sending you all the best and positivity and strength at this difficult time! @@meetyouthere9639 That will be extremely convenient for your 8 year old I'm sure. When I was 8, it was a but tough to get me to prick my finger for blood sugar readings. Back then I used to use a really Large Accu Check meter with test strips. I'd have to prick my finger, drop a large amount of blood on the test strip, then start the countdown on the meter. The meter would count to 60, and beep. This would signal me to wipe the test strip clean and insert it into the meter. The meter would then count another 60 seconds before I would get a blood sugar reading. If I screwed up just one part of the step, I'd have to start over. Try getting an 8 year old to do that multiple times a day! What a world we live in! Good luck!

    In your first video, of unpacking the boxes in preparation to apply the patch, I've had the Libre 2 boxes for quite a few weeks, and due to all the little booklets it came with just intimidated me completely! I live an extremely busy life and I kept putting it off. When I saw your video, I decided once and for all to just "get it done and overwith" for crying out loud! I laughed at your first comments of not desiring to do all that reading... I loved your presentation and so happy to see and hear the easiness that it wasn't complicated at all in just being able to watch you apply the patch, and the rest of the steps accompanied by your simple explanations. So this will be my husband's first tryout with it. Thank you so much for making these videos and I just am so grateful with your own personal reviews of your complete satisfaction with the product. This is a VERY expensive solution for Blood Glucose testing, it should be better! Calling Abbott in the morning....

      This is going to change your life Kathy! No kidding I was completely uncontrolled over 200 every day until I got this thing I was ready to cry I didn't know what I was doing. Now most of my numbers are in normal nondiabetic ranges every day. My doctor and I figured out together that instead of taking so much insulin I should try metformin with less insulin and it worked perfectly! I could've been taking all the insulin in the freaking world it wouldnt've mattered because my body was too resistant to it! It took the free style to figure that out. If you have any questions send me a message I'll be glad to talk to you more about it, I love telling people about this thing because it's just so awesome!

    I've been using finger sticks for over thirty years , this is definitely a step up from using the former. It takes a bit of getting used to, like anything, but so far i am pleased. In my opinion, when you do the switch , occasionally check the numbers against you finger stick meter so you know or have a better idea of what's going on. Great video & God bless to all those living with type 1 diabetes.

      Oh yes!! I bet after 30 years this is quite the difference indeed!! I love and completely agree with your suggestion to check against finger pricks - I think the same!! One has to gain confidence in the system on their own terms - and this is integral - great advice!!!!

      @@ShesDiabetic In the manual for the new meter it says it takes about an hour to calibrate. In my humble opinion , it took about six hours. Knowing that if your old meter says X , & your new meter says Y , you take Z amount of insulin, or no insulin . Then occasionally checking , my old meter was 1- 2 points higher than the Freestyle.

    Thankyou for your video excellent. I have found the sensor a game changer as well. I am in Australia, and have the 60 min warm up as you do, and this is good, but found quite inaccurate for first day. But solved this problem by overlapping sensor times that is I put next sensor on 24 hrs before I activate it, so it had plenty of time to stabilise before use. So with this stabilisation period it has been very accurate.
    I hope Abbott doesn't change the boot up time to 12 hrs like USA, as this would upset my prep method.

    I got my Libre in Jan of 2019 and it's a complete game changer after a year of struggling. I LOVE this CGM. I'm a Type 2, on insulin and meds. I can say that the best thing about it is that it not only tells me where I'm at, but it tel;ls me if I'm rising, falling, going high, going low etc. As far as the accuracy is concerned, I will say that the first 12 hours can vary sensor to sensor somewhat and I tend to have to stick my fingers the first day, as it calibrates itself a bit, but after that, it's within 5 mg/dL accuracy for the next 13 days. Some thing I'd like to note: 1. There is no Android app, as of yet, which kinda sucks. I don't mind the meter and it has plenty of data to look at, so it's still very useful. Second, the Frestyle Nano strips work in it, which is great, because I have a healthy stock of those. 3. I found some circular overtape patches on Amazon that work great and they are cheap. I like to overtape, because I almost ripped a sensor out a few times on door frames and working in server racks (I'm a computer engineer, so it's a hazard of the job.) 4. They don't recommend going through a bodywave scanner at the airport with them, as it may damage the sensor, as per the instruction manual. As a guy who travels a lot for work, that means a little extra time in airport security, but it's well worth it on the back end. But, everything I read on the forums says that it's not an issue to it may mess with your numbers for the next few hours. I guess the next time I go, I'll bring a spare with me, just in case. The one issue I did have was with the first sensor I tried to apply. I broke the penetration spike off it. I called Abbott and they warrantied it and sent me a new one ASAP, so that was awesome. All I had to do was ship the broken one back to them. They sent the box, the biohazard bags and the prepaid shipping label, so it was easy peasy. Ever since then, I've applied about 5 sensors and zero issues. Maybe slight soreness the first day it goes in, if I lay on it, but after that, I don't even realize it's there. The only time I feel it on my arm is when I'm showering and I forget, but it's just a slight tug or pinch if I hit it hard with the soap bar.
    Overall, I'd give the product an A-. It's helped me so much and I rave about it to all of my friends who are diabetics!

    I find the FreeStyle Libre to be fairly accurate in the middle range. If you go low or a bit high it's not all that accurate for me. I use it more to keep me on track and find the graph is a big help. In the US the 10 day sensors have a 12 hour activation period, where as the newer 14 day sensors, which require a new meter, only have a 1 hour activation period. I will be switching to the 14 days probably today. I find I need a tape over the sensor, because I bump my arms a lot and have knocked a sensor off. If you knock a sensor off you can't just put it back on you need to replace it. You can however call support and they will probably send you a replacement sensor free of charge. At least they did for me. Nice review.

      Hello! Thank you so much for this very informative and helpful information on the US differences and new Libre system! I’ve heard a lot of people complain about the accuracy going haywire in the higher and lower ranges, that’s such a shame for people! Like you, I enjoyed the graph while I was on it as well, just to know the trend of things. I hope the new Libre system is working out well for you! Thanks again! :)

    Ive used the Libre for almost five months, and find it indispensable. Any variance with a strip test (whether using Libre strips or another meter and blood sample) usually disappears after about five hours if one is not eating during that time. The meter on the arm measures NOT the blood sugar as such,, but as their literature says, it measures blood sugar in the "interstitial tissues", and any readingss variance between the two almost disappears (for me anyway_) unless I eat between tests.
    I absolutely also rely on Amazon to sell me "Simpatches" one of several overstick bandage-like supplies to keep me from scraping the Libre module off my arm. Still, only two I've pulled off have been when I've omitted, for whatever reason, to apply the Simpatch. The ones I use ain't pretty but I hate to replace a module on my arm "before its time"...
    Otherwise, full endorsement from me of this system, and no 5-6 daily fingersticks after some fifteen years of Type II diabetes monitoring.
    Get this if you can! And the 12? or 14? day modules, which also are effective after one hour following application or so , not 12 hours, are coming to the US, says my supplies rep. Sweet!

      Hi LC! Thanks for your comment! Yes - there is a share function to the Libre, however, the user has to initiate the scan in order for the information to be pushed to the career/parent, etc. There are other CGM's that do automatically take readings every 5 minutes and pushes this to the patient as well as the career, such as Dexcom's system, which may be worth looking at if you're interested in CGM from a caretaker's perspective. Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to interact!! :)

      I think there is a device which straps on over the sensor and uses Bluetooth to upload readings to a nearby phone which can be configured to relay the info to a caregivers phone....
      And lastly, there appears to be a version 2 coming online which appears to have the capability of Bluetooth communication and alarm monitoring.

      Same experience here, almost 1 year on in here in the US and love it, even swim with it in warmer seasons. I have much better monitoring and more accurate dosing of insulin to match the meals with such good feedback. For anyone having trouble with it sticking for the entire time, I have found a little extra cleaning of the area with alcohol twice with extra alcohol prep pads before applying the sensor can help a lot.
      Also, making sure the alcohol dries completely before applying the sensor will greatly reduce issues with it coming unstuck.
      Great video!

    Okay I have a question. Just got my Freestyle Libre last week and loving it so far. Seriously a game changer (after 20+ years of Type 1 diabetes). My question: When I see the graph in the morning that shows readings overnight...is it actually checking my sugars overnight? When I'm in bed and it's sitting in the kitchen? (Serious question...looking forward to hearing back because if it really is checking my sugars overnight, all I can say is "Wow!")

    • @ShesDiabetic
      @ShesDiabetic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Adrien! Oh I’m so pleased for you, that it’s working so well for you!! Hooray!! So, it does take readings every 5 minutes, however, if you want to access the readings you have to scan. So, yes, it is indeed checking your BG overnight, and when you’re sitting the kitchen! Always working! :-). I would suggest, however, that you intermittently check the readings against An actual finger stick, just to be sure it’s accurate, as I’ve heard some people really struggle with accuracy on the Libre (I’ve heard this since making this video and feel it’s important to share). Thank you so much for watching!

    I hope mine sticks as well as that. I had a cyst removed from my back and they chose to put some adhesive bandage that is supposed to adhere really really good, but within 2 days I had to return to the dermatologists office to have a new one put on, and then again 3 days later which then lasted the final 2 days to the day they were supposed to remove it.
    For anybody wondering... I felt absolutely nothing attaching it to the back of my arm, not even like an insulin shot. And wearing it, well you're reminded that something is there but it's almost like the feeling of when you go to hospital and they put a drip into your arm, you're aware it's there but it doesn't hurt.

    I have type 2 diabetes. I have been using insulin Humalog and Lantus for over 15 years. I started using the recommended 14-day FreeStyle Libre meter from May 15, 2019. The first period would be unsuccessful - only 3 days, and the sensor fell from my hand when I hit the door with my hand. The second sensor, obtained for the replacement, I strengthened more carefully. I used it on my other hand from May 25, 2019 to June 8, 2019. After a hot shower, he fell from his hand. I did not even touch my hand. I think the hand has warmed up and then cooled. Disturbed heat balance. Do you have any suggestions for protecting the sensor from exposure to hot water or other effects during physical activity?

      Hello Andrea, and first of all let me send you a big "Thank you" for all the work that you've done here! I"m a 62 year old guy living near Toronto, Canada, who's been a type 1 diabetic for 44 years - and still pretty healthy! I discovered your TH-cam videos since I just started with the Freestyle Libre yesterday (Dec. 11th), and am already incredibly impressed with the accuracy and ease of use of the thing! It seems a very exciting new innovation, and I've seen a lot of innovations over the years. I'm curious as to whether the sensor needs to be inserted on the back of the arm as the manufacturers recommend, or whether other sites are possible? Just wondering. Anyway, what prompted me to post was your "Spoonful of Sugar" poster...I've often thought of that song while treating the many hypoglycemic episodes I've had over the years; indeed, in our case I would say "Just a spoonful of sugar, IS the medicine that goes down...!" I've thought of that tune many times , so seeing your wall poster definitely struck a chord with me! Please keep up the wonderful work that you're doing. I'm sure the manufacturers would hire you in a second to be their poster woman, with the incredible screen presence and persona that you have! I'll be following your videos from now on...definitely a fan! Thanks again, Andrea. @@ShesDiabetic

      This is glorious, been searching for "when will freestyle libre be available" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Camebattian Mysterious Convenience - (search on google ) ? It is a smashing exclusive product for discovering how to end your diabetes problem without the hard work. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my mate got great results with it.

    Thanks for sharing this video. It's really helpful. I've been using my libre sensor for a year and half. I really liked the freestyle libre and app as I can avoid frequent painful pricking tests. For the last 7 months I added Ambrosia's blucon nightrider on my libre sensor which converted a flash glucose monitoring device (libre sensor) to a continuous glucose monitoring device (CGM). Blucon sits on my freestyle libre, gets the data from the sensor, transfers it to my phone and watches every 5 minutes. I don't want to recall those sleepless nights when unanticipatedly my glucose level went high and low but thanks to blucon nightrider which has a peculiar feature where I can set my target glucose range which gives Alarms when my glucose level goes out of range. I can share my readings with 5 caregivers. My endo started recommending blucon to his other patients.

      Available on the NHS in the UK (diabetics get free prescriptions) but a lot of boxes need to be ticked before they give it to you in terms of your overall control, having been on certain courses, carb counting etc.).

      Great responses all around. Some areas will cover CGM's, but for the most part these are not covered by our NHS here. However, you get (in my opinion) a very excellent amount of support on the NHS and I'm so grateful for the system. I'm glad you guys are covered in Ireland! That's awesome!

      I know...this makes me so sad. It's a huge advance in the treatment of diabetes and therefore it really needs to be integrated more quickly into health insurance provider's payment plans...I paid out of pocket for these sensors as they're not covered on the NHS here either... :(

    You are not telling the truth, Freestyle is not accurate at all, I'm not diabetic and I did the test with a lab glucose curve and compared the lab results with Freestyle and not only Freestyle is totally inaccurate because Abbott will tell you it does not measure glucose in blood but instead interstitial glucose and because is not linear, it means the lecture you get from the sensor is a number that has nothing to do with your glucose level, as the glucose in your blood goes up, even worse the result in the Freestyle, for example when I have 100 in the lab test, the sensor was showing 164. Don't wast you money on this and don't follow people that has no idea of what they are talking about like this TH-camr.

    • @ShesDiabetic
      @ShesDiabetic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am so sorry to hear you've had such a bad experience with the Libre Carlos, and please know that actually you are not alone. Sadly, I've had a lot of people comment on the lack of accuracy and reliability of the system. I can only speak to my personal experience when it comes to making a review. I would encourage you to speak to Abbott's Customer Care team (here in the UK they are extremely helpful and responsive, I can't speak for elsewhere in the world) and see if they can advise you on your circumstance, and if they can't if you could either get a replacement sensor or refund on your order. Again, I'm sorry your experience has been so rough and I hope you are able to get it sorted out. I firmly believe that an incorrect CGM or FGM is FAR more damaging than none at all, so I really have sympathy for you. I'm wishing you all the very best, truly.

    Hey Thank You for the video. I've been a diabetic for 1 year and the finger pricks got very old, very quick but I toughed it out. Got a Freestyle Libre 2 days ago and saw what appears to be a needle sticking out of the sensor and so I kinda lost my nerve to use it. I'm generally got a lot of nerve to do things other people would not do except poking myself with needles. Your video REALLY helps me.You showed me that the pain is very minimal if any at all. So again Thank You Very Much and I'll be using it very soon.

    • @ShesDiabetic
      @ShesDiabetic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear you! The needle freaked me out too! But oh - I just can't tell you - I didn't feel a thing! It's so weird! I would say the worst part is the loud sound, and that makes me feel like it should hurt in combination with that - and yet! Nada! I wish you luck in starting yours! You'll be great!! Do it when you're ready!!!!
