    Just adding my congratulations 👰🤵 I have been MDI for the 41 years I've had type 1 diabetes, and on a CGM since about 2008. You're remarkably articulate and I enjoy your videos, and I wanted to thank you for your honesty and your willingness to share with the rest of our 'tribe' out here. I didn't have a CGM when I got married and I kind of winged it throughout the day as well. I actually ended up running low before the reception and had to chug orange juice when we got to the venue (as politely as possible!). The adrenalin and stress can definitely mask hypoglycemia symptoms. Your dress was beautiful and I'm glad you had a wonderful day. Keep speaking and sharing and thanks again from a smiling face out here in the Interwebs 😎

    Hi Andrea, firstly I want to Congratulate you and David in your new journey thru married life, being a New Yorker, and my condolences on the loss of your sweet Dad. Ive been there with losing parents, now all our immediate parents have passed away and it is heartbreaking even now. I'm ID T2 Dexcom Tslim2 user and came to your channel when i was a real newbie, 2 yrs ago. It has been life changing especially going thru death anniversaries, as well as medical problems (Diabetic Co-Morbidities) and trying to have a life balance after a heart attack and now a cardiac AFib problem. I hate Diabetes, it took my dear brother and consumed him. His life ended at 56yrs old. I've felt guilty at times realizing I out lived him. At 63, I have reflected on his diabetic life as well as my Dad's and other family members and it gets me sad and angry but that's OK. I have a therapist to help but other medical issues have pulled me in those more critical concerns. Back burner alert. ‼️🚨. You have been wonderful. You have a cheery composure, a wonderful grasp of Diabetes and hacks. As a disabled critical care trauma nurse Ive seen more than i care to see but Ive learned alot and my diabetic self has been helped by my dexcom device and pump. I am sorry for rambling.
    You are so young and beautiful & such a help to so many of us. I've loved your hacks, your honesty, the kind and caring approach you extend to your you-tube visitors and subscribers. Continue to keep on posting. Our son will be getting married in a year or so. Love the idea of a BS tech tracker. Starting to feel like I need a Diabetic holiday but can't risk anything now. Dialysis is in my future as well as cardiovascular worries. Until the time the back burner becomes a smoking fire, I wish you great health, happiness, straight CGM lines and Please, find the humor in your most challenging moments. The things you can laugh about work like magic on the things we cry about. Blessings to you and David, your new home, your next chapter and your healthy approaches to everything that comes your way. 🎉❤😂🙏 Welcome back ❤️ Barb

    Hi Andrea,
    Thankyou for sharing your so special day.😊 Sharron and I loved the beautiful wedding photos.
    Also interesting about the pump and how it helped in keeping you stable.
    As I have been on multiple injections for a long time, and even though my HbA1c is good, 6.4 last time, it's such hard work and lots of highs and lows . I feel like it would be starting all over again , to learn a totally different way to manage the diabetes , and to trust the technology.
    It's great to see you back on line, you have been missed.
    Congratulations to you and David , we are so happy for you both ,
    Rex and Sharron 💕

    Congrats (also, love the new hair color)!! An engagement is on the horizon for me (I know he has the ring hidden in our apartment, so it's just a matter of time lol), so this video actually came at a great time for me. My question is: How did diabetes factor into your caterer/bakery choice? Were you able to ask them if they could do carb counts or did you just estimate?

    • @ShesDiabetic
      @ShesDiabetic  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ahhhhhhh!! A ring HIDDEN IN THE APARTMENT!!! That is SO EXCITING!!!!!!!!!! I can’t wait to hear more!!!! Re your question (which is so so smart!!) we didn’t - but that probably would have been an excellent idea to do!!! I like that a lot!!! The only thing we did have was a totally gluten free, daily free menu, because my husband and I bother eat that way, and it makes us feel best, so knowing everything being served gf/df helped us know we could eat everything without a worry, and for me that was a great help to ease my mind. But carb counts…that was a total guessing game…lol 🤣😅

    Congratulations David and you with your marriage. And the most important thing, seems that you really enjoyed that day and that is indeed the most important thing!
    I'm maried without CGM, did not exists already that time. But I had already an insuline pump. And need to use fingerpricks for controlling suggar. And I had not to wear a dress and a costume is easier to wear a pump than a wedding dress.
    I have not fast stress from things, accept from one thing, blood glucose values out of range. So I believe that I'm a bit more control freak at such times then most of the poeple. But that is me. I would feel me less comfortable when I do it in the opposite way. Fine that others are different on that.

    I've been on the Medtronic system for 3+ years. I'm looking for summaries from experienced people about what I should switch to and why. I mentioned to my endocrinologist recently that I think I want the newest Dexcom maybe with the omnipod. He said Omnipod customer service is horrible! Then I came across something saying some people were having a hard time obtaining the newest Dexcom even after they got approved by their insurance and doctor to do it. I do like that Medtronic ships everything to my door through UPS. I don't want to find myself dealing with 2 different companies when there's a problem and they both blame the other company's device/employee etc. I DO want the best CGM though so I'm all ears...

    You were a most beautiful bride! Your dress was magnificent. Best wishes to you and your dear husband.
    Wowed by your thoughtful strategizing. Far and away more effective than my management. My abdomen is part of my Dex rotation sites. Dresses with pockets are fabulous. I slit a pocket on the inside and slip it in.
    My tslim paperwork is still processing! Eager to be notified of a delivery date.
    My question is from day 1, I’m not asking for medical advice, just from personal experience, roughly how long does it take in general terms the pump to get to know the wearer? I’m thinking a week. Am I in the range?

    • @ShesDiabetic
      @ShesDiabetic  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Thank you for all your kindness! In terms of your question, it really REALLY depends on how accurate your basal settings are. That's going to be the baseline for the system, so if your settings are spot on, then I would say the time required will be lower. That being said, it's not just about the system getting to know you, it's also about you getting to know the system. For example, I found I needed less carbohydrate to treat lows because the system had already decreased my basal rates, so that was something to get used to and figure out. But I had to say, overnight I really saw a difference almost from day 1, my nighttime BG's were just fabulous, and thought they aren't that way every single night, for the most part the system really excels in that way, but also keep in mind I think my basal rates were really well dialed in. My biggest suggestion would be to work very closely with your Endo to get your basal rate and correction factors as accurate as possible. Good luck with getting all the necessary approvals and let me know if you have any other questions - I'll try my best to answer them!!

    • @ShesDiabetic
      @ShesDiabetic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello lovely! Thank you so much! No, I can't say we're trying for a baby, but if we were it would be something I'd consider blogging about becuase it's quiet a journey for many couples and I think we could all benefit from being more open about it. That being said, my biggest advice would be to speak to your Endo about your plans and what you can do to put yourself in the best position possible. I know my Endo has mentioned to me before that there are things (vitamins, etc) that they put t1d's on to make conception easier and healthier. So that's all I know I'm afraid. But I wish you a very wonderful journey full of success! I would also reccomend you check out Michelle Lord's TH-cam channel as she's done a lot of vlogging on the subject of her pregnancy and birth experience! ❤️

    If your factors in the daily profile are correct, ask me why you don't run in "sleep mode" 24/7? That would be less stressful and the pump would then run in auto mode.

    • @ShesDiabetic
      @ShesDiabetic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is always in a ‘auto mode’ it’s just the sleep mode targets a lower BG range than the daytime mode, however in the sleep mode it also doesn’t deliver auto correction boluses which I wanted in case I was headed high due to anxiety/stress. That was my thinking, but if I’m missing something do let me know! I’m always wanting to learn more!!

    • @nordwestbeiwest1899
      @nordwestbeiwest1899 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ShesDiabetic Well, I've been running for 2 years in sleep mode, i.e. in the pump's auto mode, and of course I had to fine-tune my daily profile beforehand, i.e. set the parameters a little sharper or less, but that was only possible because I took a week to do it. Many claim that 3 days would be enough, but that's not true, because after you have adjusted your parameters, the algorithm starts collecting data. It takes a while with fluctuations in blood sugar, but please don't panic because the algorithm first has to collect data and can compare . For some this is after 3 days, for others only after a week. But be sure that you always eat at the same time and always the same amount of carbohydrates!!! Important because of the dates !!! And only then does it start to run really well and without stress. Just give it a try and give it the time for it because the first few days will be bumpy but don't immediately give up hope and show patience. I don't find the 112.5 mg/dL low and you can set your correction either sharper or less sharp in the menu. One of mine has set it sharper because in sleep mode it is only controlled on the basis of the basal discharges and it helps to set the alarm in the CGM settings sharper so that the pump can act faster then. That sounds paradoxical but it did for me helped .Maybe you need to adjust your basal rates a bit which might be too conservative. Trying and testing brings experience and then also success and Please always keep in mind that making mistakes is good to learn how your body reacts, you draw your conclusions from this and then change it. If that is correct then everything can only get better. As long as you know that you also make mistakes, you also know that you can correct them, so don't be afraid of them and be aware of them in the back of your mind.
