Iranian President #Raisi had a long list of enemies, both from without and within. It is not unreasonable to question whether his colleagues conspired to eliminate him.

It's kind of sad, the most popular guy is probably the one they won't choose. And since the Supreme Leader hasn't chosen his replacement, and with most thinking it will be his unpopular son, a lot of people will claim he's making a new dynasty that the revolution sought to overthrow.

It's such a shame how post-1979 Iran is just as much authotarian as pre-1979 Iran. And it would be an utter shame if Khamenei's son succeeds him. All the lives lost in 79 would go down the drain wven further.

Meh, it doesn't matter. The next Supreme leader would certainly be bent on destroying Israel and world domination, just as the two previous ones were. He would most certainly continue oppressing the secular people in Iran. What does it matter if it's a hereditary succession or a theocratic succession? Both would be similarly oppressive, extreme, and genocidal.
One big mistake: There is no democratic part in Iranian regime. All apparently elected positions are controlled by the guardian council whose members are handpicked by the supreme leader. This way, the supreme leader engineers elections so only his people can run. There is something called approval of qualification in Iran for running for presidency ( or member of parliament or assembly of experts). The body which approves or disapproves one’s qualification is… you guessed it: the guardian council, which is unelected and handpicked by the supreme leader himself.

As an Iranian, I can tell you that you know nothing about Iran's internal politics!
1. Mojtaba Khamenei cannot enter governmental or political positions because the Supreme Leader of Iran has prohibited all his children from engaging in these matters to prevent them from exploiting their father's position.
2. Additionally, the future leadership of Iran can be either individual or council-based, as determined by the Assembly of Experts.
3. Members of the Assembly of Experts are elected by the people, and the next leader of Iran (if the leadership remains individual) will be one of the members of the Assembly of Experts. As I mentioned above, Mojtaba Khamenei cannot register for this.

The helicopter that the President was flying in was US-made and over 40 years old. The service life of a helicopter is ~20 years. I'm sure the Russians or Chinese (nominal allies of Iran) would have been happy to sell them a newer and more reliable helicopter.
As noted in this report, Iran has accused the US of continuing sanctions (which is true) denying them spare parts as an explanation for the crash, but stopped short of anything clearer.
In this report, I wonder why the the advanced age of the helicopter wasn't mentioned?

@@andrewmackowen943 have you talked to Iranian people, particularly women? That's definitely not true. Not everyone wants Sharia in place, restrictions on their personal autonomy, and a lack of social mobility. I'd go as far to say that most people don't want that.
For the first time I disagree with a point made here, that being Israel wouldn't see it as reckless and ineffective to assassinate President Raisi. Netanyahu has been advocating for a war with Iran for as long as he's been in office. Drawing Iran into a violent engagement would only benefit Israel, as it would force the U.S. to become further involved in their wars. No idea whether Israel is behind Raisi's death, but they would indeed have much to gain from a war with Iran.
Living in Israel I'll say that a lot of people here are joking about Mossad having done it, but it's just so unlikely because the fallout from such an attack would be gargantuan if it were ever public that Israel actually did it. And the US isn't always going to get involved in these conflicts-the US has been extremely risk averse for the last 15 years and no one would take it as a guarantee that the US would go all in on a war against Iran.
The other thing is that Raisi isn't a high value target to the extent that a general is or the supreme leader. Maybe someone could predict a destabilizing fight for power like this video suggests could happen, but that's hardly a guaranteed outcome if you're the hypothetical personal planning to assassinate the president and foreign minister.
I think it was isreal .bcuz raisi is the guy that Supreme leader wanted so much he was a yes man he never said no to Supreme leader and never was a danger to throne bcuz he is a low iq clown with no personality .isreal did it bcuz after that they have to do elections again with lack of legitimately they have not much ppl gona vote .and another thing is the main tartget may be the foreign minister .he was very active at making relationships with east and arabs and that not good at all for israel .and dont forget iran also dosent want to go to war even if his president is assassinated .war equals end of their regime
I mean, they would have a motive, but that helicopter literally flew in zero visibility.
But West won’t back Israel in war with Iran, not this time. Iran is too dangerous, they have three thousand ballistic missile and have very advance nuclear program, actually they have enough enriched uranium to produce nuclear weapon. Israel doesn’t even have Access to Iran, so how actually could look war between Israel and Iran? Only another proxy war. Iran migth pressure Hezbollah to attack Israel, send reinforcement to Lebanon to start a hell in Lebanon and Sheba farms. Which is very beneficial to Iran, but not to Israel.

The Supreme Leader wasn't really meant to be a political post in the first place, at least when Khomeini was alive.
Let me explain this to you, the Supreme Leader was based on the idea of the "guardianship of the jurist." Khomeini's main role was to enforce the country's Islamic law and he acted as some sort of constitutional monarch, interfering ONLY in political crisis such as when the ultraconservative Majlis (parliament) impeached the leftist president Banisadr.
But in reality, day-to-day running of the government really resided with Khamenei (then-president, managed the war effort against Iraq) and Mousavi (PM, kept the economy afloat, post was replaced with VP afterwards). But yeah, Khomeini was a good posterboy for the regime, telling the people especially children to fight the Iraqis in human waves and even if they die, they'll have their place in Jannah.
But things got tricky after Khomeini's death, the post started to become a politicized one by removing the religious requirement (ex. imagine a non-cardinal becomes Pope, though it happened in the past) but Khamenei was ceremonial at first because it's President Rafsanjani who put him in position in the first place.
Rafsanjani amassed influence during his time as Majlis speaker enough for Khamenei to be ceremonial in his early years but without noticing, Khamenei was also building up his power base particularly in the military and IRGC.
A setback came when Khamenei quashed Rafsanjani's attempt to amend the constitution so he can run for a 3rd term. Out of anger, Rafsanjani allowed more reformists to compete in the election thus the Khatami presidency was born.
Ever since then post-1997 or I should say post-Rafsanjani, Iranian presidents had been always subordinate to the Supreme Leader, either you kiss his hand like Ahmadinejad and Raisi or get annoyed everytime your reform gets blocked like Khatami and Rouhani.
And thanks to our empty-headed-idiot president, George W. Bush, Iranian voters got intimidated into voting against a new Rafsanjani administration, and for that sycophant Amadinejad!
🤦
The guardianship of the jurist was imagined to be something semi-political like what Iraq unofficially has with Ayatollah Seestani.
But the combination of the way Shah being forced out Imam Khomeneis Charisma the wave of political assassination's and the Iran Iraq war made the position more powerful than intended because some many political leaders died Khomeni had to interfere more than expected.
Rafsanjani tried to move the guardian jurist back to a ceremonial role after Khomeneis death and make the president the main point of power. He pushed Khamenei into the position which deftly simultaneously got rid of his main political rival be relegating him to the ceremonial role, took out Ahmed Khomeini for consideration and denied the position to all the other senior clerics. Khamenei realized what was happening too late and tried to argue his way out saying "How can I be the leader when some of you (senior cleric) don't recognize me as (Ayatollah) what kind of leader would that be? But Rafsanjani shut the debate held the vote and Khamenei was stuck because he couldn't reject the degree of senior clergy.
Rafsanjani plan succeeded and failed at the same He was able to accumulate much wealth and rebuild the country and temporarily reduce the power of his rivals. However Shia theology has so much respect for the leader which gave him more influence than expected. Khamenei used that to build his own militia the IRGC which answer to him directly. This gave what Rafsanjani thought would be a purely ceremonial position enforcement power. He used the basij like general Qasim to build the militias in Syria Lebanon and Yemen. The other part was Khamenis youth as the other Ulama passed away and he rode out attempts to oust him it left Khamenei with political executive and religious authority as well extreme direct influence in the region and the only cleric of that standing left alive. Khamenei tried to groom Raisi to be his successor even sending his son to campaign for him but now that plan is gone.
"this is not a system where people leave empty handed, if necessary they can cut off hands" goes incredibly hard
Honestly have to say i think it was just a mundane case of bad weather and perhaps equipment malfunction that brought the helicopter down.
There is no mundane crashes in high politics. This was Iran's president. The same country which is almost in open war with Israel and the US. He wasn’t a pilot and probably didn’t appreciate the risk of those weather conditions
Never underestimate the stubbornness of VIPs, especially politicians in an authoritarian state.
Pilots call this get-there-itis. Imagine you are the president's pilot and you are ordered to fly him to whatever place over those foggy mountains. You've dodged bad weather hundreds of times, and you aim to please / be useful. It's easier to say "Sure I'll find a way below or around the fog" than "Safety first, we're not flying this helicopter today". 99 times out of 100 it works out, until you draw the short straw one day. Many skilled and experienced pilots have died this way.
Isn't it crazy how 150 people max have 80 million people in hostage? That's why Americans are so protective over the Second Amendment.

Video is bizarre. Saying Iran has elections is like saying Vladimir Putin was elected democratically. What a joke.
Yeah people voted for Putin ?

In Russia you have to be careful around windows. In Iran you need to be vary of helicopters. Of course the west is no better with a tendency for people with dirt on higherups to be suicidal...
Interesting times we live in...
Literally one helicopter crash.
and helicopters are more dangerous method of transport compared to plane, car, or train.
How do you make these killer map edits bro!! Enlighten me please 🙏
The one who delivered was Bond, James Bond...
your timing is great mate
Come on Shirvan, your reports have been of much higher quality in the past and way less biased. Why such a drop of quality? Very disappointing your current analysis.
Here some examples of your, I suppose intentionally, biased comments:
"Ali SHAhmenei" - you know very well how the supreme leader is called, right? was that supposed to be a joke or something? You pronouce his name right only once.
"Raisi wasn't popular" - among whom? the diaspora persians/iranians or among the iranians actually living in Iran? Haven't you seen his funeral? Which other "unpopular" president has had such a public funeral?
"few iranians will mourn Raisi, though" - are you blind or so???
"the younger generation will remember him for his clueless handling of the economy" - citing which economy expert? Iran, being under international sanctions for over 40 years, getting rigged by the West over and over again, (lately under the JCPOA/nuclear deal), always under the pressure of being dragged into a war (DAESH, Syria, Soleimani assassination, MEK terrorist attacks, Pakistan border tensions, Zionists terror attacks, etc, etc). Now under Raisi there was a quite successful pivot towards the neighboring countries and towards the east (China and Russia) and away from the west. Just to name a few achievements: Full membership of BRICS, full partner in Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, Rapprochement with Saudi-Arabia, etc
All in all very poor analysis. Almost considering unsubscribing your channel.

No... he is not "democratically" elected, he is elected. Were there democratic elections in apartheid South Africa? Of course not. There were elections.
This guy clearly has a dog in the fight.🤣🤣🤣
He was also very pro Ukraine in rhetoric in the beginning.
He is Azeri and always biased towards Azerbaijan's interests despite their illegal massacres of Armenians.

what a fucked up form of government. A supreme leader is just governing on the way to control absolutely and the presidents is just burdened with all the responsibility and work, in the end the people suffers.
Yeah it's nothing but, bullcrap.
thank for this unbiased and clear explanation, well done!

The iran supreme leader probably downed the helicopter, because Raisi wanted to be the successor to Khameni as supreme leader instead of Khamenin son.
May God have mercy on them, Ibrahim Raisi and his companions, and grant them a spacious place in Paradise
Khamanei bumped him off to ensure that his son become Supreme Leader
>Raisi was not popular
>Estimated of 2 million peope attended his mourning ceremony
This is how taqiyyah works
Well most pro-regime people claim that 1 to 1.5 mil attended Raisin's funeral. 1.5 mil itself is an exaggerated number.
Now you claim that its 2mil 😆
From a country of nearly 90 million people, to a funeral held over 5 days. 300,000-400,000 per day. Not great, not terrible
If the helicopter crashed why didn't the other helicopters stop and land to go help ? They are helicopters.
They are Eli Copters.
Great vídeo, as always!! Cheers from 🇧🇷 🇧🇷 🇧🇷
Excellent and informative breakdown as always
Waiting on this one…

Why do they dress like drag queens in mourning, never covered?
Aside from using Rouhani’s face instead of Raisi’s, and using Mike Pence as an example of a bureaucrat, many of your claims show bias and lack substantiation. Disappointing, as an old time fan who appreciated neutral analysis on such complex subject matter.
As an Iranian I was hurt to see the president die because he should have been prosecuted for the ocean of Iranian blood which he spilled in 88.
Iran is an unbelievably smart country and still the strongest in West Asia. The real power players in Iran are not the President or Foreign Minister. Nothing changes.
He just gets replaced by the Ayatollah like every other clown president of the last 40 years. The president of Iran dying in an accident is nothing major, just a faster succession for the guy behind him.
If you think there is a chance that Mojtaba Khomeini becomes the next supreme leader you have a very inaccurate view of Iranian society and politics likely because your views are only based on anti-Iranian government rhetoric. I would say the most likely outcome is that the supreme leadership position is replaced with a "Shoraye Rahbari" i.e. a Leadership Council.
Also Khameneyi did not "back Rouhani's presidency". He had a different candidate in the race. He "endorsed" Rouhani's presidency after he won the popular vote which is like how the US super-delegates may "select" of a primary candidate chosen by popular vote.
we Iranians believe it was an inside job
