    I support some of what the NRA does. I canceled my Sons and my membership when we received DVDs and then were told to pay for them. Their constant pestering for money is ridiculous. I told them I would never support them monetarily again.

    Sam Harris of all people said it best in regards to the 'red button'.
    "A world without guns, therefore, is one in which the advantages of youth, size, strength, aggression, and sheer numbers are almost always decisive. Who could be nostalgic for such a world?"
    Also *you think your stupid gun can stop a world class military?*
    First off, if that were true the US would still be a colony, and the US would have *decisively and quickly* achieved a real, absolute victory in Vietnam, the second Iraq conflict, and Afghanistan. In which we fought mostly poorly armed, guerrilla, militia groups. In Afghanistan and Iraq they weren't even that big, tens of thousands at best, which is much smaller than our numbers and we had those magical end all be all drones everyone always talk about, a weapon that is controversial *specifically because of how infrequently they hit intended targets.* In Afghanistan not only did they give us over a decade long struggle, they completely ejected the Soviet Union in less time.
    The 20th and 21st century so far have shown armed militia insurgents are no joke, even against 1st world armies.

      Yeah but you’re downplaying guerilla warfare a ton. I believe in the second amendment but you cannot disregard the advantage insurgents have. Vietnam and Afghanistan has taught us you can’t win a war when the enemy and the people were trying to protect look exactly the same. Which is what happens when we’re fighting there. If we shoot civilians were seen as the bad guys, so we have to be lax on the trigger.
      You can’t win a war when you can’t differentiate the enemy and the civilian. It’s impossible

    • @rafaelintrevado2456

      A world where guns disappear would favour the countries with the capacity to mass produce guns. The U.S. would replenish their entire arsenal faster than you can blink, unless you were to A) Make them all disappear and then B) Regulate the production and sale of guns. I'm unsure what Sam Harris means by claiming that a world without guns would advantage "youth, size, strength, aggression, and sheer numbers." The U.S. has some of the worst violence statistics in the modern world, yet they have guns galore.
      As for Afghanistan, Iraq, and Vietnam, your argument is a fucking joke. All those countries had weapons furnished via proxies. Yes, guerrilla groups can indeed pose threats...but only when a large nation like the U.S.S.R., China, and the U.S. provides weapons and support. Also, your argument falls apart when you consider the simple fact that Iraq, and Vietnam were decimated and suffered far more than the U.S. did. As for Afghanistan, there is simply more of an incentive for that war to be ongoing. Because the U.S. is still in Afghanistan, the military gets to justify the production of more weaponry.

    • @1111Tactical
      @1111Tactical 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Tina Belcher All of that phenomenon would be even more true in an American civil war. You think there wouldn't be pushback if the US military shot civilians in a militia?
      Hell, even the original Minutemen used the ability to blend back into the regular population.

    • @1111Tactical
      @1111Tactical 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think the red button thought experiment would also mean the red button would eliminate guns from even being produced. Like the concept of a gun is no longer physically possible. Erasing guns from existence wholesale.

    Say what you want but the gun debate needs to be a part of a much larger debate on society in general. We've been shredding how communities, education, and economics works for the last 50 years and the lack of stability is why guns are more dangerous. Do we need to have a conversation about what kind of gun laws are appropriate for the new age of assault rifles? Probably, but gun violence is a symptom of how weird and chaotic the modern world is getting.
    What happens if in the next 50 years automation actually forces Universal Income? Does anyone want to guess how messed up things are going to have to be for that kind of political reform?

    • @joewoodland8635
      @joewoodland8635 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kokainuser true, but one counter argument is that violence will always find a way to surface. A gun may be able to do damage at greater range and with less skill but if people want to do damage they will find a way. For example one of my colleagues was shot in the lower back with a home-made "crossbow"

    • @sickboy3636
      @sickboy3636 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lorem dropping truth bombs. Also Joe is greatly informed. The point Joe is making is that violence is prevalent without guns, however guns are the greatest form of self defense. Kokin is a buffoon who regurgitates talking points despite them contradicting the argument he is attempting to make because his brain works on an elementary school level.

    • @joewoodland8635
      @joewoodland8635 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      A valid point Kokainuser but what I am saying is that on a couple of the websites I have just had to look to (we can't all be statisticians) state that "intentional homicide" as a whole is only 8 times larger per the US' six times multiplier for population approx. I concede that these sites do not state what constitutes "intentional homicide" but to circle back to the point, the numbers of deaths are similar and the methodology of killing is the main difference.
      It is worth stating that I don't have a polar opinion on guns, i own and use them. That, however is due to my love of hunting and I would use whatever means is available to me to get some delicious venison

The good thing is, the power is in our corner. We have the rule of law, and more importantly an armed population to assure the rights that we are born with in this country are not altered due to the brain dead mindless ideology of these buffoons who think they can save the world one ignorant law at a time.

  •  6 ปีที่แล้ว

    London and New York have basically same amount of population. Clearly lack of guns did help lower homicide rate for the longest time. Now imagine if London allows people to have firearms. I think that homicide rate would triple if not double. It is not a good argument against guns. I am not being anti-gun but places like Australia and countries in in Europe are safe because of lack of guns. I am only anti-gun if there is way to take them away from the criminals, not law abiding citizens. I own few firearms myself, but i never used them to commit any crimes just have for self-defense.

    • @jameskazd9951
      @jameskazd9951 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      he is and i stand with him in that regard. the 2nd was meant for civilians to have the same "arms" as the military. they let trade ships have cannons. it wasnt until the crime wave that prohibition brought about in the 30's that machine guns and destructive devices started getting more regulated with the NFA. also you can still own like say a 105mm howitzer if you follow the proper procedure. getting the shells for it though is another matter entirely. also a legally transferable machinegun to my knowledge has never been used in a crime..

    • @Demonicpoo
      @Demonicpoo 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      kazuma meetking But the second amendment stipulates a well regulated militia. In which case it would make more sense to me. If say, every state would have their own military defense force that's trained and regulated like the federal armed forces than it'd make sense for them to have the big guns. But even so, I guess the way they keep them out of the hands of random civilians is by putting up a high price tag. Even if the entire country unanimously decides that the government is tyrannical, just having the guns won't be enough, there are x-factors like leadership, direction, logistics, organisation, etc.

    • @sickboy3636
      @sickboy3636 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Obviously it would take coordination. The point being, people who are unarmed can be lead to the slaughter with no defense. Although the government would have more firepower and be very hard to defeat, the people have the ability to fight. What about this do you morons not understand. The right is about personal preservation......I wish some of you uninformed buffoon could live in a communist country for just a short time. You entitled clowns wouldn't last a second and would come back kissing the ground you walk on in the free country you live in.

    Ok here's the thing yes if the government used its full might on the civilian population then yes no amount of guns would stop them. The problem is does anyone think those soliders would willingly go along with the government ? The people who join the military arent the anti-gun liberal hipster crowd, its much more rural and inner city people who usually pro gun and much less willing to bend to an authoritarian government thats not attempting to kill its own citizens. The best case senariao is the military would fracture and it would desend into absolute chaos very quickly and it would really be 1861 all over again

They use all of their gun manufacturer paid donations and member donations to lobby politicians to make sure guns are as easy to buy as possible . They are even for the gun show loophole in which people without a gun dealers license can sell guns without having to do a background check. They care about one thing. Money and control.

    The New York - London Comparrison is a bit cherry picked.
    Firstly, New York Has one of the lowest Homicide rates per capita among U.S Cities.
    Secondly, The Crime rate has only been higher in London than New York over the last 2 months (~37 homicides against ~32) which isn't a long enough time period to be statistically significant given month to month variation. It is highly unlikely that the homicide rate will be higher in London when the year is up.

    “I am not an advocate for frequent changes in laws and Constitutions. But laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors.”

      Look up the number of direct action military personnel. Compare it to the number of gun owners in America. Then think aboiut how many people in the military would go AWOL if they had to start shooting US citizens and subtract that from the first number.

    • @sorensamsami5321
      @sorensamsami5321 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      7One I'm not from america I don't care at all it was an honest question, ur answer makes sense kinda but even if half of the military go awol the other half can rule the country however they want don't you think?

    • @alohi79
      @alohi79 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol What do you think that other half of the military is going to do as the other half tries to take over the country. And what civilian politician is going to back the military splitting up and trying to take over the nation?? The military answers to the civilian government, i.e., the POTUS. You're obviously ignorant of a lot so you should consider not having an opinion until you rectify that. I thought the question was hypothetical, so my b.

    • @alohi79
      @alohi79 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're confusing a complex issue (interaction of military with civilian governing) with a simple outcome (Military will just take over because they have bigger guns). That's a cognitive issue around problem solving skills on your part. Not trying to be a dick, but until you learn to identify the logical fallacies you put forth, it'll be impossible to wrap your head around complex issues (I.e., you'll just keep thinking in circles).

      If you're not from America, and seem to show no interest in learning about it, why do you speak authoritatively on issues you know nothing about? I'm not going to be a dumbass and say, "Lol how are you going to fight the North Korean military with even full-auto rifles?" if I don't know anything about anything.

      Nothing. It's the biggest civil rights group in the U.S. period but it's an easy scapegoat for liberals looking to point fingers after shootings.

      Nothings wrong with NRA members, the only issue with it is the leadership since they often lobby to keep any common sense gun laws (or any gun laws at all) from getting passed.

    • @gan9055
      @gan9055 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Except common sense gun laws aren't common sense. They won't do anything to deter crime and are completely unconstitutional. We need to repeal the NFA.

      The NRA is a cult with one mission. Make money. They do everything in their power, through lobbying and propaganda to their members, to make sure as many guns are sold as possible, They fight even the slightest gun restrictions for fear that it may stop just one gun sale and hurt profit. Money, money, money. And they use the second amendment and scare tactics to a gullible membership to make this happen. And I am for gun rights. Most gun owners are NOT NRA members. it's the extremist side, kind of like a Trump fantard.

      lobbying is wrong not just for nra but all of it .your federal background checks are not good enough hence the mass shootings. and yes my country is not as developed and successful as yours but that is exactly why you should listen to us because we are doing something right and our children are not getting shot in schools . children are dying and i empathize with them and their parents whether its an american child or indian . and i am supposed to be stereotype apu so don't steal my lines.

    Dude keeps using anecdotal evidence, (Sam said to me, therefore this is what people like Sam, believe.) One problem both sides have is this logical fallacy of using personal experiences to generalize millions of people. Or they like to create a subjective version of this left-wing/right-wing strawman they'll also refer to when faced with nuanced arguments. Dude is strawmanning "the left" based on personal experiences, that's cool bro. Ur right, there's some real hippie dummies out there who are shitting out bad ideas without thinking, probably for attention on FB, but it's not a logical statement.
    Can't we just say that NO ONE should use political scare tactics to profit after a mass shooting? The NRA has such a measured, seemingly coordinated plan it only goes to suggest they capitalize any time, good or bad, guns are in the national conversation to drive the narrative towards, "Clinton/Obama/Pelosi comin fer ur guns."
    If the NRA did something to suggest they weren't playing partisan politics to drive up fear, thus gun/ammo/attachment sales. Like, publicly denounce these people suggesting people are "crisis actors." But it also seems like they like their base riled up without confronting dangerous misinformation like that.
    I like guns, but this idea that wanting to explore options to stop mass-shootings, is the same as, "we're taking all ur guns and giving them to Obama's Raiders...is just bs from some right wingers just looking for contention.

    • @palaven4048

      The NRA is a civil rights group, they advocate for 2A rights. If democrats were pro gun they'd support the too, it just happens to be republicans who are pro gun, and talk about scare tactics. The left uses them every time there's a mass shooting to try decrease our gun rights. So what's more of a scare tactic to you? Protecting a constitutional right, or using deaths to try to limit it?

      Trying to reduce your gun rights? The fuck is that even supposed to mean? You have a right to bear arms. Period. A pointy stick is an "arm". Everything beyond that is privilege. The truth is that both sides are trying to come to a workable agreement on just how much privilege a weekend warrior/armchair soldier should enjoy. Unfortunately, the right has to pander to that group and they are louder than they are smart.

    Big red button to get rid of all the guns on the planet, yup i'd press it. I know we'll make more but maybe in the mean time we can pass some reasonable gun laws like mental health and competency tests for instance.

    • @Junior-nt5nr
      @Junior-nt5nr 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Why don't you tell us exactly what mental health regulation you would pass champ. If it's so reasonable, go ahead. How would we determine competency? What mental health issues should bar you from owning a gun? If a single mother with a psychotic ex takes pills for anxiety, does that disqualify her from owning a gun? On the day that you press that magical button, are you going to take responsibility for the woman who gets raped and murdered while walking home one night because she can't defend herself?
