I have LP and LS for 5yrs now, I got them when they are sling (cm. size) , I fed them 2x or 3x a week , but I think they are small size for 5 yrs, they are both 4 inch now, is that normal growth?

For some reason my LP is EXTREMELY shy! I've only ever seen 1 real feeding response, otherwise it must be coming out at night, cause I literally never see it, kinda forgot what it looked like hahaha

I can attest to how tough these guys are.
I used to have a LP that had a bad shed. It lost 5---yes, 5 legs in the process. I kept it in ICU for 3 days thinking it won't last long. The stubborn thing stopped bleeding and even ate a pre-killed Dubia Roach while on its back.
Couple of weeks later it shed again and was actually able to move on 3 legs which is kinda freaky to witness, especially when attacking prey.
The little fighter actually kept getting better until it regrew a full set, but I noticed that its growth was stunted as a side effect of the injury.

      @MaliciousMollusc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

@Elijah Wolter Thanks! This happened years ago, so unfortunately she's no longer with us. But she definitely bounced back after this
PS: it took 2 molts to regrow the legs.
By the 3rd molt, it's like nothing happened. I think it was over a span of 6-9 months

@@MaliciousMollusc I‘ve seen spiders around the house with 3 or 4 legs left. They actually cast off legs as a survival strategy if a bird catches them. There‘s a reason my phobia never stopped me from reading up on spiders…
Glad to hear your spider had a good life. They really are purely practical creatures, using what they have. ^^

To me the hairs are like a mild fiberglass, I've been haired enough that i had just disregarded it as a real hazard. WELL, one time i was cleaning an empty LP home... next day it felt like a tiny grain of sand got in my eye... you can guess where this is going. It MESSED me UP for at least a month. Couldnt drive fore two weeks. It felt like a rusty fish hook after a couple days. Im good Now, but i read it can even cause permanent eye damage. 10/10 would not recommend.
Funny side story... get ready to facepalm... while getting checked out (I went in RIGHT away to be safe, but nothing they could do anyway) I had to explain, to an adult human, who went to med school, "So... what is 'Tarantula'?" I literally could not compute and just sat there with my jaw open. Even "Big hairy pet spider" didnt ring any of his bells. I had to look up pictures on my phone then explain the evolution of urticating hairs cuz he apparently has never been outside and seen a freaking Spider before.

Dude, I just want to say thankyou. I've been spamming your videos for the past month while I've been sick with covid and you've really helped me with my mild arachnophobia.
The other help I've had is my friendly little phiddipus regius being super cute.
But after watching a boatload of your videos (possibly all of them), I've taken the plunge and got myself a Lasiodora Parahybana sling (maybe a bit older. Still getting the hang of the terms) and they're so docile and beautiful and I can't wait to see them grow up and get into this wonderful hobby. I already know which I'd like next...but I'll be waiting a while to get them!
So, yeah. Thanks so much for being so informative and putting yourself and your experience out there!

I really love this format, great shots, good edit and most importantly you keep it brief with the most important information. As someone just getting into the hobby, it would be useful to know the size/age distinction between sling, juvenile and adult for each species. I know it isn't an exact science, but a rough idea would help. Blue fanged tarantula would be my vote for a vid :)

I bought a spiderling the size of a quarter, she grew very fast and would eat anything that moves. She was super aggressive, attacking any movement. She pounced on my hand twice but never fanged me. Custom 18inch wide, 36inch long and 12inch high cage. She would go from on side of the cage to the other faster than you can blink. She died after 8 years during a molt, and was bigger than my hand. Really like this species because that don't hide, always out ready to fight. The hairs definitely are a issue without thick gloves.

We just received our little Salmon Pink Birdeater from Fear Not, and she's 0.5". Already, I see growth happening even after just a few days. She appears to be nearing premolt with her darkened abdomen, but she's still very active. I just love these beauties and am looking forward to having her for a long time to come. We say 'her' in the hope that she's female so we have her longer.

Loving this T Richard and a superb display spider. BTW your spider room is awesome. I see so many in the hobby who keep their creatures in plain plastic tubs and I've even had people knock me by saying the size of my enclosures and the decor is too much and not needed but I believe It adds enrichment to the animals environment and I think it's important that it's also aesthetically pleasing to me so I applaud you on your set ups. If you haven't done already maybe you could check out marks tarantulas as he also has an awesome spider room and puts out high quality videos.

Not growing that fast, but the little guy wasn't a great eater at the beginning. one of the 1st ts i ever bought ,think had 4-5 other species already, and got her from local pet shop for around £15 (back around 2004). was amazed that such a large and beautiful tarantula cost so little ,frankly i still am-theyre still "cheap" nowadays.. was definatly one of the ts i kept that got a lot of "wow"s from visitors as she rarely hid in her cave/hide and fed like a hungry tiger..

I love watching tarantulas and learning about the species. My favorite tarantulas are the Pink Kneed ones. Could you do a show on them sometime in the future?

Hi everybody. Do any of you guys have any experience with LPs being super active and hugely entertaining? Mine is forever doing something. Hunting, digging, chewing the background and tidying too😄 By far my most active T

Mine WAS like that, but since her last molt she Just. Sits. I imagine it could be that she matured. You could be fooled into thinking shes just a plastic spider until i throw her a roach.

@@Spyder_King it's funny that you replied. I gave her a bigger enclosure because she was exploring every corner of the old one. Ever since then she's hidden herself away and closed her burrow off. Maybe premolt🤞

Very curious about your adult enclosures, they’re decorated and setup really well, could you do a video on those?
