    Gluten honestly is a random ingredient in so many things. It’s not needed in dressings, seasons, etc. As the mom of a child with celiac, the more we can move toward getting gluten out of things like this, the better 😊

    I always wondered if I should make myself eat if I’m not hungry. That’s a part of intuitive eating that I’m still figuring out. And as an athlete should I actually make myself eat when I’m not hungry but I know I’m under-fueled for the calorie demands of my sport/training?

    • @HereForFun98
      @HereForFun98 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I think the answer may be "it depends". The specialist I work with encourages it and it's outlined in the "Intuitive Eating Workbook". I am also an athlete and when I avoid eating I experience unpleasant hunger and also get irritated. It also affects my performance. On some days I will eat a smaller meal and carry a snack.

    • @AbbeysKitchen
      @AbbeysKitchen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      Part of intuitive eating is the self care of fuelling yourself enough, even if you don’t feel physically hungry all the time. I hope that helps 😊

    • @ROyler-rs6nh
      @ROyler-rs6nh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I think intuitive eating isn't strictly waiting for hunger cues to eat, it includes being conscious of what your body needs.

    • @Alyssa684
      @Alyssa684 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@AbbeysKitchen That’s what I assumed and have been doing. I think part of the problem is that if you eat all “nutritious” food you’re going to be too full to be able to eat enough calories. I definitely have to purposely eat high calorie foods to reach the demands of my higher training loads. I guess that just further supports your statement that no food is inherently bad. It’s a topic I haven’t seen discussed very much, especially in the context of intuitive eating while doing a high energy demand sport.

    • @Alyssa684
      @Alyssa684 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ROyler-rs6nh I love how you said that. That’s definitely what resonates and works for me.

    I'm currently a nutrition student and you're such an inspiration for me Abbey, I absolutely love your mindset around food and how you promote balance always backed up by science!! It would be great if you could review Dr. Berg's channel, he intensely promotes the keto diet and my parents had been following him religiously for a few years now, I always take his advice with a grain of salt, some of his claims seem kind of diet culture disguised as wellness and lifestyle. I'm still pushing for you to do a review of Trim Healthy Mama! Their way of eating is unlike anything I've ever heard before (and very, VERY restrictive). But they're not a single TH-camr, but an entire company! The two sisters who formed the company do weekly podcasts, they've written cookbooks, have tons of food rules (such as not eating fats and carbs in the same meal because that's a fat-storing meal whereas eating a meal that is EITHER carb-heavy or fat-heavy is a fat-loss meal). I mean, it's crazy. They also sell their own food products. I followed it for a hot minute before realizing it wasn't at all "food freedom" like they promote it as being, and I didn't like about 90% of the food I put in my mouth. But seriously, they have a HUGE following on FB and I think it might be beneficial for you to cover.

      Yeah, the lactose should be removed through the fermentation process. Lactose is a sugar and is eaten by the bacteria or whatever as far as I am aware. So, yogurt and whatnot should be naturally lactose free, idk about regular block cheese, but there are usually lactose free options, depending on how fancy the grocery store is.. lol

    Do you know of a study comparing store-bought sourdough breads to traditional sourdough bread to see which brand is most like the real deal? They often get the taste, but from what I understand, large scale production bakeries often rely on conventional yeast for the rise so I am not sure how much they actually ferment the dough.

    Hi Abbey! I have a question that I’m curious about… Before I found your channel and started looking at food in a healthier way (thank you for that btw!), I used to watch those documentaries that would scare people into becoming vegan or whatever. In those documentaries, they would talk about how a lot of studies are “sponsored” or paid for by the dairy and meat industry. Do you take that into consideration when researching studies and using them for your videos? I don’t know too much about the topic but I’m curious to know!

    • @janaxxx490

      omg the documentary "What the Health" actually gave me an eating disorder lol

    • @biseravlahova5162
      @biseravlahova5162 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I watched "What The Health" a few weeks ago and it was seriously scary...I have a family history of breast cancer and in the documentary they insisted that dairy will seriously increase my risk for developing it myself. I have a rather healthy and balanced diet, and am learning more and more about how to get my nutrient needs met from my food, but this seriously made me doubt everything I know. As Abby mentioned, I always thought that dairy is a good source of protein and calcium, and I've never had any sort of intolerance to it, so I eat it without restricting myself in any way.
      I HATE it when they say cow's milk is for baby cows and not for humans. If it wasn't for cow-milk derived formula I wouldn't be alive today, because my 43-year old mother couldn't produce any milk. As soon as they start pushing the vegan-agenda, I cannot take them seriously anymore, as I'm seriously doubting their claims. Even when those claims are true, it's the wrong way to inform people about them. So, I cannot really find an unbiased opinion on dairy, and it is a big part of my diet. I would like to hear Abby explore these claims against dairy (or any other staple foods in general) and share her opinion.

    • @AbbeysKitchen
      @AbbeysKitchen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Absolutely! Part of academic research is always taking into account who is sponsoring the study you’re reading, because this can impact results. I hope that helps!

    • @weeziedeesaase6273
      @weeziedeesaase6273 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@biseravlahova5162 the only "vegan agenda" is getting people to start thinking about where their food comes from, how animals and their treatment impacts our environment and health as well as all the unethical things that food companies do. Your reaction to this information doesn't make vegans "bad" or that they have an "agenda" besides making people aware of the information. Maybe you should ask yourself why you had the reaction you did to the information you got? Is it because you LOVE cheese but don't love the way cows are treated or the health impacts it has on some people?? Cows milk is for baby cows. Baby humans can drink formula. Damn girl, sounds like you have the "agenda".

    • @biseravlahova5162
      @biseravlahova5162 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@weeziedeesaase6273 just because I don't like veganism (or any personal lifestyle for that matter) pushed in my face, or being scared into making different choices, doesn't mean I don't know where my food is coming from.
      I actually have naturally gravitated towards a vegetarian lifestyle, and the meat I do eat is from local farms or from certified free-range ones. I also follow and learn recipes from RainbowPlantLife, which is a vegan TH-camr, which promotes a vegan lifestyle, but doesn't shame or scare people into acquiring it.
      I also learn about how my food choices in general impact the environment. The avocados which aren't native to my country and have to be shipped across the world have a much worse environmental impact than any meat that comes from a small, local farm.
      Oh, and also, I do love cheese! I am also interested in how it impacts my body, and I am open to accept any research as fact, as long as it comes from a credible source.
      Also, in 1997 the only baby formula that was available in my developing country was one derived from cow's milk. Even now, in 2022, I'm not sure there's a different option. Should mothers who cannot produce milk leave their babies to starve in the name of veganism?
