Who puts a headphone store next to a train station? I guess depending on the amount of noise, it's either not a problem or it's good for testing noise isolation. 👍🏻
My experience of the store was that it was quite quiet, actually. I may have noticed the trains once or twice, but it was pretty easy to forget they were there.
Woah, seeing the Minidisc brought back some old memories. I save my biggest nostalgia for my memories of using the wired remote to change tracks, all the premium players had one and it was like the proof of your status as a cool 'Asian'.
Memories indeed. I have a Sony Minidisk player, MZ- DN430, along with about 30 disc that I made and it really was a fantastic means of digital audio playback. I get nostalgic from time to time and listen to music with it. It's too bad it never gained much popularity but that was to be expected. It went out of phase just like the Digital Compact Cassette (DCC) player back in the days. Remember that? Thanks for the memories.
i have them both. e40 has better mid, high, and soundstage. se215 is still not bad by any means and has better low. things i hate about se215 - comfort, e40 - very bad fit
I remember trying them at a Yodobashi when I was in Japan back in May and I went like "nay, I stick with my im02". Also the ath-w5000 Raffinato were so gorgeous.
You should try the Ckr9 LTD. it's basically an in ear MSR7 with more clarity and immersive sound but warmer. They have been said to sound like a more refined e40 as well. Plus the color is sexy, bar far the sexiest I.e.m's I own. Others I recommend: Fidue A83
I quite like the sound of the e40 ( its my first iem) but im wondering what to upgrade to in the future in the 250-300$ range im mainly a gamer and a movie watcher and want absolute quality sound
I had the exact same Sony minidiscs player... i freaking loved that thing. the inline remote was next level stuff. I love the new store. I will have to go check it out sometime soon. Thinking of picking up a pair of Audeze LCD 2.
Yesterday I listened to both, E40 and E70. There was so little difference in 2 minutes I spent at the store. I did not listen longer for a purpose, because if there is a difference you will clearly hear it in just few seconds. If you need to spend more than 2 minutes then you are searching for something that does not cost 4 times as much. I watched many videos with reviewers saying how with E70 you hear if the drummer farts in the middle of the solo, well I am a professional musician and sound engineer and whenever I hear this kind of thing I know there is a lot of mumbo jumbo and not really objective and scientific approach. Both have 2db notch at 550 hz and 2.7 khz so they are not really flat, but they are close. The bass and highs are very conservative while being relatively flat, not bad but not much better than my 8 Dolars QuadBeats. I bought E40 in the end, while 400 Euro E70 seemed like too much for this kind of sound. E50 were more comfortable for my ears, but they sounded the same and again the price was too high for what I get so I decided that E40 were good. For everyone thinking about those 3, do not believe the hype, go and listen to yourself, there is very little difference between them.
I have the E40 i want to upgrade, i listen to Trance music a lot. These are great! But what do you recommend me to buy next that is much better than these for max 300 $?
@@BlackV4You It all depends what you want. For me personally I am used to a flat frequency curves so very difficult to find anything in that price range. At the moment I use ATH R70X in my studio for professional work and those headphones are the easiest to recommend as they are magnificent. For IEM and casual listening I use KZ ZS10 Pro which I EQed to get the flat(ish) frequency curve and now I am satisfied. Also I used some rubber inserts to tame down the high frequencies because I use them for live playing as well. Apart from the highs that are very pronounced from 4khz and up they have more bass than what is considered flat, which is good for live monitoring, but when connected to my phone I set around -7db low shelf to get the desired sound signature. All in all I can recommend Etymotic ER4XR for flat frequency curve but with extended sub bass, out ER4SR for a completely flat, as they say Studio Reference response. But as I said, you need to know what you want and then choose accordingly.
Hello Lachlan, You're using the Sony tips on the E70 I've noticed. I own these myself and i can tell, after a careful comparison, that in terms of cmfort it's certainly better but in terms of SQ, the transient response is just no the same, you should make a note of that if you decide to follow thru with a full review.
You're right, this video is a recut of the pilot video! That original video was never pushed out to sub feeds. It was an unlisted video available for viewing on the Patreon page. If you've already seen it and you want to check out new content, you can have a read of my latest blog post: www.lachlanlikesathing.com/2016/07/favourite-video-game-loops.html
Wow im currently in themarket for a really really good pair of in ear phones any suggestions for a incredible pair under 500 dollars or slightly over 500?
ATH IM-70 or ATH E40? Which is better? Planning to add one of these into my collection. But they both selling for the same price point here. I wonder how this compared to my current Sony XBA A1. Any advice?
Once you've finished this video, you can check out my post about my favourite video game music loops over at www.lachlanlikesathing.com/2016/07/favourite-video-game-loops.html
Based on your first impression of the ath-e40, is it better than the ath-im50? The im50 costs more or less than $80 here and the e40 about $99. Which is better in terms of value and sound quality?
I'm afraid I haven't directly compared the two, so I can't really say for sure how they compare. I think the IM50 is probably less bassy so it depends on what you like.
I can't stand any kind of headphones, my ears get hot easily, IEMs are my only option but i can't use em due to the hissing issue, what do i do? Any dac/amp under 100$ optimized for IEMS? Any IEM under 300$ like the IE80 (I listen mostly to hip hop, no Beats garbage) that are not very sensitive? Please help me!!!🙏🙏🙏
Hissing issue? The wiring in your source is causing that because it picks up some 'noise' from the electricity. A dac (just get a small one, look at fiio products) should help, but you could also try dedicated noise isolators
ApplepieFTW I'm using the Fiio e10k, it hisses, it's not optimized for iems, the only one I know that is optimized for iems is the FiiO E12A IEM Edition, way over my budget
you should first try different sources. I have this issue on my phone (moto g, very strong output, able to compete and beat other "high end" audio phones (iphone whatever / samsung high end) in its ability to drive high ampedance headphones, but does suffer from static noise) and laptop but not my tablet. note that the type of grille used (is that what it's called?) in the iem heavily impacts how much noise you.
though if a dac doesn't solve it, which I'd think it should, try searching for "mpow ground loop noise isolator review" by "my legit reviews". that's the last thing I have to offer; I've never used anything like it but it should work
You NEED to start putting Amazon Affiliate Links in your description of all the items that are in your videos. It can be a HUMONGOUS source of income depending my dude.
there are lots but they're only sufficient if you have a million or more subscribers who give you at least around 100K views a video...since Google takes 45% - 50% ? of all ad-revenue...especially if you're a reviewer of expensive audio gear..in which case you constantly have to invest money in order to buy things in order to review them thoroughly...something that gamechannels or just talk-about-things channels don't have to do.
Who puts a headphone store next to a train station? I guess depending on the amount of noise, it's either not a problem or it's good for testing noise isolation. 👍🏻
You can hear the train, but actually the air conditioning is probably the noisier component.
well, at least you can test how good the noise cancelling in a real situation lol.
My experience of the store was that it was quite quiet, actually. I may have noticed the trains once or twice, but it was pretty easy to forget they were there.

How are the ATH E40's compared to the Shure SE215?
i have them both. e40 has better mid, high, and soundstage. se215 is still not bad by any means and has better low. things i hate about se215 - comfort, e40 - very bad fit
i have the e40 and the best fit is from behind your neck, you just cant use it drop down like normal earphones
ingat aku tak tau ke gampang dah shape dia mcm tu confirmla pakai dari belakang dah aku kata bad fit tu bad fit la kata bangang kang marah
I agree
Brian Li honestly se215 quite bad , the bass not enough , quite flat , u can get even better earphone sony extrabass which is around 30$ . Great bass
I remember trying them at a Yodobashi when I was in Japan back in May and I went like "nay, I stick with my im02". Also the ath-w5000 Raffinato were so gorgeous.
Do you mean you tried the E70 or the E40?
Both along with e50. The e50 was particularly uncomfortable with a sharp edge at the back on the ear side.
You should try the Ckr9 LTD. it's basically an in ear MSR7 with more clarity and immersive sound but warmer. They have been said to sound like a more refined e40 as well. Plus the color is sexy, bar far the sexiest I.e.m's I own.

Can you please do a comparison review of new Audio Technica new ATH A2000Z* against older ATH A2000X*.
Which one is the best option for deep bass?
Lachlan! You're the best! Thank you for all your work! It's great to have you back!!! CAN YOU REVIEW THE VSONIC VSD5? PLEASE!!!
Haha, thank you. I can't promise anything, but if I hear enough requests I probably will :)
Minidiscs were the best thing for portable use before iPod launched. I think I still have my player somewhere.. And some Walkmans too :)
I REALLY wish we have a place like that near where we live.
I had the exact same Sony minidiscs player... i freaking loved that thing. the inline remote was next level stuff. I love the new store. I will have to go check it out sometime soon. Thinking of picking up a pair of Audeze LCD 2.
Oh man yeah those inline remotes were so awesome. Just to have a full readout of your track? Too sweet.
The MiniDisk players were amazing. I miss them SO much, but the space on the disks themselves just can't beat today's hard drives or SD cards.
Hey Lachlan, how do the E40s compare to the GR07, and sound and build. They do sell for almost the same price.
Yesterday I listened to both, E40 and E70. There was so little difference in 2 minutes I spent at the store. Have you tried the PSB M4U 4 yet?
Lachlan, can you do a review of the Audio Technica E50?

Any chance of looking at Master and Dynamic headphones. Would really like to hear your thoughts.
You deserve 1 mil subs bro
how is ath-40 and ath-70 compare to DUNU DN-2002?
Thank you
Hi Lachlan. I'm a bit of a bass head and looking to replace my Vsonic GR07 Bass Edition. Tempted to try the ATH-E40 as a replacement, any thoughts?
Love your reviews! Can you review some ultrasone headphones?
Should I go for the old IM50 or the E40? How does the bass compare between the two? Thank you.
minidisc is a great store. one of the best audio product stores in Australia, just a bonus they have an actual store in Sydney =)
What songs are on your minidiscs? specifically the one witth eva+stuff :D
+Tom Cruz Ortega I have no idea anymore tbh, but I assume there was Eva soundtracks on it.
shure se215 or ath-e40? which one would you choose
Hey Lachlan, will you ever review the Grado SR80s?
Hey!! I think you should review the ZTE Axon 7. As an audiophile, I'd like to *hear* your take on it, hehe...
How would the E70 compare to the Shure SE535? Looking for new IEMs as my Shure SE215 are dying.
How does the e40 compare to the im02?
+absolutiontheory98 very different. E40 is far more aggressive.
Wait...it is the same video as the 1st patreon pilot video ain't it? Didn't you freely share that link before? Why the repost?

Can you review Shure 1540 ??
So the e40 sounds like the m50x?
Wow im currently in themarket for a really really good pair of in ear phones any suggestions for a incredible pair under 500 dollars or slightly over 500?
MEE P1, Empire Ears Supra 2U or wait for something like the Trinity Phantom Hunter or the Master line.
Beats
lol that made me laugh Cool Blue
shure se535 definitely
Se535
A mini disk with Eva music haha that's awesome
ATH IM70 please.
are they good for their cheap price? or are they simply good?
In my opinion, ath-im70 sounds quite muddy compared to vsonic gr07 mk2. Organic and less clarity in presentation.
ATH IM-70 or ATH E40? Which is better? Planning to add one of these into my collection. But they both selling for the same price point here. I wonder how this compared to my current Sony XBA A1. Any advice?

You look alike... I would swear you two were brothers.
