PSA: In the US, Best Buy sells the E40, they'll price match authorized retailers, and they'll allow returns for stuff like if they don't fit well within 15 days.
I was super impressed with ATHLS50IS and then could not resist buying ATHE40. I tried fitting it the same way as the ATHLS50IS and hurt my ear. Had to visit doctor.
I am thinking about E40 for my live playing, however I have problem with those hard wires that go behind the ears, always hard to fix and make them stay in my ear. Do I just need some time to adapt, or to watch somewhere else for a regular earphones, CKR70 for exmaple?
I paused Ray Donovan to watch this. I've had the E40 since last October and I really like them. They present every genre very nicely. They SHOULD sit in the ear with the cable connection facing forward and the housing will rotate back. That's my only real gripe. They ARE very large and stick out from your head a good seal. I use the Sony Hybrid tips And I plan on trying the Spinfits. Comply foams work nicely if it's a bit cold and I can't get a good seal with the Hybrids. I DO find that different tips boost the bass but I stick with the Hybrids since it's a nice balanced sound for me with PLENTY of low end for bassy tracks. I still need more time with different tips. Nice review/comparison.
Thanks for the review. If I may offer some constructive criticism, I’d love to see you stay more on point. Also might be a good idea to get to the review immediately instead of making us have to wait well into two minutes. Thanks for putting this out!
Got the ls50 earphones, also didnt like the eartips at first, also bought those sony eartips and believe me they make the earphones sound like complete crap, so muffled. With original eartips they sound so much better, way crispier. Dont waste money on sony tips if u got ls50.
Hello greetings fron the old continent I am a new subscriber, what do you think about the Shure 215 vs those audio thecnica? Which one would be better to get? Or do you know something better for hi fi music under 100 euros?
hey Lachlan, have you come across any decent Bluetooth earbuds (not too pricey) with good soundstage for movie listening ? maybe with a decent bass also?
i want to get new iem, i need to choose between shure se215, ls50is, e40, or sennheiser momentum. i only need a fun iem with warm sound. what is your recommendation?
6 years later watching this... Anybody knows about some "rugged" wired earphones? not for swimming! but solid, some weatherproofing welcome, and good audio, but no need for audiophile gear, more like < $100? What about ATH-E40 durability, anyone still using them after this time?
i have some ath cxis7 or whatever there called, they sound great, but they have this slight design, they don't really go in like earbuds they kinda just sit in your ear, which become a problem as soon as you go outside, music is unhearable due to them being so open in your ear
I have the same Sony DAP as you Lachlan. Can it power the Audio Technica M40X or M50X? I'm planning to buy one of those headphones. Which one will you recommend or should I buy the ATH MSR 7?
Gold Piece I don't know anything about that DAP, but I'm sure it can power those headphones. Based on what people say, the MSR7 is a bright sounding headphone, and the M50X is a v-shaped headphone. I use the CD900ST and M50X.
swat37 I listened to M50X, It's sounds like the M40X but with more bass and slightly recessed treble, I just used my Asus ZenFone though to test it. The MSR7, I haven't tried it yet. Maybe I'll go with the M40X because I prefer the accuracy and the flatness of the sound and it is easier to drive too. But depending of it's availability in my country I might go for the M50X or MSR7.
+Hoàng Bửu I tried the new Westone models (both UM1 and W10) and I did not like them at all at first impression. But I'll give em another go some time.
Interesting how the ls is more "lifestyle" which seems replace the previous im series (or so it seems) the im02 or the ls 200 seems fairly neutral though hmm..... and the e70 based on feedback is quite bassy. My im70 is fairly organic and bassy, i definitely wouldnt monitor with those. The bass while punchy loses out on some layering. Audio technica u stumped me again! Im still dying to listen to the im03 (still scoping out a pair for myself).
I was almost set on this headphone and was ready to buy them. But i saw that they had only 12 ohms. I dont know that much about audio. But i've read that less ohms means headphones will have less clarity in sound and that they will be more prone to blowing. Should i be worried about 12ohms ? I would like them to last at 3-5 years. Im using them on phone only and i usually take care of headphones . So only thing that i worry about is how long earbuds will last.
@@zPhantomVortex I did research a little bit but never found that information. Thanks ! So ATH-E40 should in that case last long and sound good at the same time?
@@punkskaska To my knowledge, yes you should have no problem. Ohm is a measure of electric resistance, hence why the more ohms your headphones have, more power is needed. The only problem with less Ohms would come if you connect your headphones into a very powerful amplifier at max volume. But that would be ridiculous, no problem will come with the built in audio in your phone, pc or anywhere tbh.
RK Prithwijit e40 is better with bass and slightly subdued trebble. Gr07 is very light on bass to the point where some times it frustrates me. I have both e40 and GR07 be. The fit of the e40 is very difficult to get right, I have to spend a few minutes everytime I insert it in my ear. Gr07 BE is very easy to wear. But I do prefer e40 over GR07 BE. You may also want to consider hifiman re400 it's also around same price
Rupesh Dalvi thanks for the reply. I have pretty big ears, but something like the KZ ZS3 is uncomfortable to me and I end up not wearing them. I really want to avoid Vsonic if I can, since I have had issues with their build quality over the years. And the E40 is tempting with its slightly lower price.
RK Prithwijit. You are welcome.I think hifiman re400 is really a great value with current price. I'm not sure where you are not but in India all these are about the same price. I had to import the GR07 BE from China but they are about the same price. Another good option is fiio ex 1 second gen. I have KZ zs5 and they do feel uncomfortable due to their size but their imaging is so good that I forget there is something poking the sides of my ear when the music is playing.
You can find all the Vsonics, Hifiman and Some KZ, Joyroom, Tenmatt on hifinage.com they are the official indian retailers and are very responsible people. Great delivery and service. I previously bought the vsd3s, vsd1s and Monk pro from them. I think I'll be be getting the E-40 from headphonezone.in audio technical quality control is a bit more reliable i think.
Hi lachlan, maybe you might have bought those sony hybrids off either from Aliexpress Or Ebay. I do know Aliexpress sell quite alot of those sony hybrids
Very informative. Thank you. A little positive criticism....this video DRAGS hard. I'm interested in t he subject but not everything you say is interesting, you repeat information often and your voice delivery is very subdued as it is. You would need to edit, just a minimal amount but that would make a huge improvement in all your videos, and show your viewer you've taken care to review your spontaneous dialogue, to confirm you can get through your own video without falling asleep. Surely you should be able to sit through your ENTIRE video if you expect an audience to sit through that much spontaneous technical review information. My eyes just glazed over waiting for the next sentence
Night fury If you want really cheap you can go with a Chinese IEM like KZ ED9. It is only $13 USD and it comes with 2 filters, one is bassier and the other one is flat. It sound nice if you use it with Sony Walkman and the sound stage and clarity are really great because it's an open back. If you want bassier you can go for the Audio technica ATH-CLR 100, it's only $20.
Night fury one more thing the KZ ED9 may not sound good with your smartphone because smartphone doesn't have that power compared to a Hi Res DAP. I have an Asus smartphone and a Sony Xperia, I say that it kind of sound weak with my Asus but works perfectly fine with my Xperia. And about the sound filters that I mentioned even if you use the bass one it still kind of flat with just a little kick on the bass, so if you're a bass head and you want sound isolation go for the ATH-CLR 100 but for sound stage and neutrality go for the KZ ED9. One last thing is not good for out door because it is an open back so you will hear everything in your surrounding but in return you will have a very good sound stage.
No way mate. Is because you, Chinese people have small ears. I tested them and I cannot feel them. However I want to go wireless. I plan to buy those huge 50 hours heavy buds (buts).

which ones better for metal?

The e40 needs a whack ton of burn in to sound like what reviewers describe it as
It's so treble heavy brand new whew. But it gets much more neutral after burn in
