    I listened to a 6 sermon series about worship, by Piper. In it, he said he can't stand when the worship music ends and a person says, "let's pray" because in worship, we're already praying....then he gets on here and says "let's pray" as the worship music ends. Made me chuckle lol love Piper and his teaching anyhow

      In the interest of a fuller perspective... he was referring to the uniformity of a service being in successive worship, starting with the music (in escalation of the spirit)... then continuing in prayer (direct address)... then further into preaching (expository exultation)-all being in cumulative worship... rather than ending worship at the music and changing into perfunctory ceremony and then mere lecture.
      Which (in his own candor- despite being an introvert) is exactly what Piper keeps from doing (imagine how concerning that is). He wasn't referring to the necessity of audible queue into prayer but rather the hacking up of a service into dead orthodoxy... Therefore he's displaying the parallel as example from that series on worship- not contradicting it.
      It's important to point this out because, if left hanging, the connection you're making is, itself, a misrepresentation.
      And with all of the destruction going on in the body of Christ with accusations, etc. toward Piper (and others) that come from similar types of misgiving (and therefore are demonstratively unfounded)... this was an appropriate place to illumine an incidence of tacit contribution to his detractors who are actually in large part, incorrect.
      When I try to imagine what it's like to be him -especially given his particular fears and other idiosyncrasies (that he's candid about)... it's truly saddening to think about this state of the body of Christ. And frighteningly (somberingly) the demonstration of total depravity (even in the body) which is indicative of humanity being condemned and the necessity of God's choosing individual salvation in collective redemption.
      **This is not meant combative, but for needed understanding and consideration.
      (You're obviously thoughtful in even knowing the other series)
      God bless

    I wanted to ask a question or maybe it's just to add a thought. This "thought or idea" came to me a couple years back. John said in this sermon- just to get a glimpse of God. right before that he talked about the Lord's prayer. I'm a little anxious to share this! A couple of years ago I was in a bible study and the topic was the Lord's prayer. I guess I was wondering if anyone else thought that "Our Daily Bread" meant Lord give us a word or glimpse of you daily! Jesus is the bread of life, without Him we have no life! I changed my thoughts on that part of the prayer. Lord give me a glimpse of you a piece of you, your word, your presence anything today Lord! And all these things shall be add to you, provisions. that includes food, bread! Am I wrong in thinking this way?

    • @sammccombs3419

      I love your thought. "Taste and see that the Lord is good." "I am the bread of life." Our English word "Lord" is actually derived from the Old English "Laird", which meant "Keeper of the Bread." So, your meditation on the Lord's Prayer is actually quite accurate. I praise God that you are part of the body of Christ! Rich blessings on you as you render yourself to the leading of the Holy Spirit and gather with other believers.

    • @britneyology1
      @britneyology1 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I have come to understand it to mean the word of God is sustenance. A daily, constant reading of the word is the bread of life. Our needs become so minimal when we live with the Holy Spirit in us that we survive on the nutritional value of knowledge of God and his commandments. We are under the full protection of the Trinity, without which we are starved whether or not we have an abundance of food. Food only nourishes our flesh, and God's word nourishes our soul.

    • @InChrist777

      You should ask Jesus about that thought and not put it in a thought section and wait for people to Respond I'm not trying to be difficult or go against you But you should ask Him instead of people and You'll get your answer!

    • @livingtruthministries
      @livingtruthministries ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So Jesus says, right before daily bread, “let your will be done” then follows it with “give us bread, forgive us, lead us down a path of righteousness.” (Paraphrase obviously). Essentially Jesus is saying “Father, let your will be done. Help us do your will by meeting our daily physical needs, forgiving our sins, and leading us down Your path of righteousness.”

    I do find it an interesting question. The overly emotive preaching isn't my style, and frankly I've been greatly moved by very quiet sermons of very calm men.
    Saint Augustine's Confessions has Saint Augustine question what a true church service should be like. He admitted to being moved by great choirs but worried he was moved by the skill of the singing and not the message. He was of the mind that the safer path was a kind of chanting to eliminate the possibility. CS Lewis had something to say along the lines of not letting your faith be dictated by the state of your digestion. That is to say, your whims and emotions shouldn't control how you feel about God. God is something in you deeper than that. Equally it feels wrong to throw shade on someone just because they do derive pure emotive joy from God. I've seen dispassionate sermons that spoke to me strongly, but I've also seen dispassionate sermons that have a point but refuse to go to the potency of the scripture itself. Or people who are just wrong one way or another.
    That said, I wouldn't worry about people who don't act like wiggly, giggling, schoolgirls every second. That is a surface evaluation at best.

    But if, over the next ten or twenty years, John Piper begins to cool off spiritually and lose interest in spiritual things and become more fascinated with making money and writing Christless books - if I buy the lie that a new wife would be exhilarating and that the children can fend for themselves and that the church of Christ is a drag and that the incarnation is a myth and that there is one life to live, so let us eat, drink, and be merry - if that happens, then know that the truth is this: John Piper was mightily deceived in the first fifty years of his life.
    His faith was an alien vestige of his father’s joy. His fidelity to his wife was a temporary passion and compliance with social pressure. His fatherhood was the outworking of natural instincts. His preaching was driven by the love of words and crowds. His writing was a love affair with fame. And his praying was the deepest delusion of all - an attempt to get God to supply the resources of his vanity.

      And that quote shows that it's in his person and being-so it demonstrates a thoughtfulness and visceral conscientiousness in Piper... Yet you seem to be rhetorically citing it in the opposite manner to suit a contra-projection...
      Going through death threats, etc. and retaining no royalties from an entire library of books written is living a life that refutes such contra-projection.
      Imagine being in the center of all of Christianity's contradictory crossfire that would mean that doing anything is a problem with someone (which vacillates, itself)... And even in the address about the getting of the vaccine, Piper is preserving choice and it seems ambiguous, but it's not... By him not villainizing either position people inherently tacitly accused of not having a stance....
      ... And yet, he gave slightly more gravity to getting the vaccine- which- for his demographic- is the most rational.
      It's what Christianity espouses supposedly.
      ....being a pastor is the most difficult testing.... which demonstrates even more of Piper's genuineness.
