I knew he had one son who was a complete atheist and went off the deep end and mocks Jesus and his father, I didn’t know he had another son who was lost as well so I will definitely be keeping Pastor Piper and his two sons in prayer
7 Reasons you should pursue full and lasting pleasure in God: 1. We are commanded by God to be happy in God. 2. Conversion to Christ is the awakening of a superior pleasure in God. 3. Being supremely satisfied in God is part of what saving faith is. 4. To find your superior satisfaction anywhere else but in God is the essence of evil. 5. Jesus’ teaching about self denial is based on this pursuit of joy. 6. You cannot love people the way you should if you are indifferent to your joy in God. 7. God is most glorified in you when you are most satisfied in Him.

I pray that I find my satisfaction in God, I intellectually know nothing in the world will satisfy other than God and try to act that way. I trust God can and will open my heart and reveal his goodness and glory to me in a way that will satisfy. I don't always feel that, and I am tired of whipping my thought patterns. I rather act like I love God by following his commands, knowing God strengthens and aids me in that desire, and I will leave it to God to work on my heart.

I've been off work for 2 years because of injuries and pastor Piper's ministry has been an enormous blessing from God for me in that time. Pray, brother. Don't neglect your prayer life. That's my biggest piece of advice for your struggles in your walk. Develop a consistent prayer life. When you spend time with God, He changes you.
I really like the way he starts his sermon. Testing people's message through God's Word (the Bible) is the most accurate way to judge and that is the rightful way to know if someone's message is really from God.
The Bible is God's Word for the Bible itself says so: 2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.

I just started listening and there’s two main things that are important one you only get this joy in the presence of God into it only happens when you’re rejoicing in God over everything else. There’s the answer. So if you have a joy that leaves it’s because of idols. Very simple. Someone dies, joy goes away. You get sick, joy goes away, you lose your house, your reputation, your money, joy goes away, it wasn’t in God. Let’s not be deceived.
Piper conflated joy with happiness. Joy is internal, a state of being that never leaves, like salvation. Happiness is external based on a set of favorable circumstances, which come and go.

Piper is amazing. He studies the puritans, like Edwards and interprets them for our ears. I long to know the fullness of God and to know a joy that goes beyond human comprehension
Come to them quietly. Let them seek Him out so that they may know Him for themselves. [edit] I was inspired to write that before I got to the part where he mentioned his sons. I think it is for them. They will be saved. I have found God through a very strange path coming from atheism. I have had to work hard to decipher Biblical rhetoric and parse it in a way that satisfies my high intellect (not a brag as it is cleverness that kept me from God for so long). My goal while I was still an atheist was initially to help understand Christians and convince them to become atheist but to my amazement I found that when my translations spoke to me it was not because they were superior to the Bible but that they affirmed it. I found that I could not replace a single word, only provide a way for myself into God's Word. I hope I can help others along a similar path some day. (Perhaps JP's sons, that would be miraculous!)

Brothers, the Lord showed me 2 months ago, an extraordinary vision, regarding the DAY OF THE LORD. I saw myself outside, among the people, and suddenly, an immense light, which encompassed everything, coming from above, of an unimaginable force and power, hit us unexpectedly. At that moment, I didn't have time for anything, I just managed to shout: OH MY GOD! I woke up instantly, and I heard a voice in my head (I knew it was the Lord), which told me: GOAL! And then I told him, remembering that in the BIBLE, it is written that the Lord's Day is a day of great auspiciousness, as it has never been before and will never be again, and I asked Him if this is what we must do, when we see this light. The LORD answered me that that LIGHT is HIM and that our GOAL from that moment, for salvation, is to CRY FOR HIM!! I agree with most of this message, but believers who are suffering find it difficult, to impossible, to find joy in anything. That is truth. May the good Lord reveal His truth to John Piper, who openly professes that his body does not hurt. Be careful of preaching on roads you have not walked. 🙏
And they are with Christ, and they are G‐d's, and His saints who find joy in Him, whose delights are not on this Earth, but in the Lord. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted, blessed are those who are persecuted for My Namesake, for so too were the prophets. The saints who suffer find joy in Jesus and G‐d Who gives them all spiritual blessings through Christ. Every one who suffers for Jesus will not come up empty, nor short‐handed, not even you. He loves them, and Peter talks about necessary suffering, and count it all joy is a good phrase; there is Thanksgiving and a need to take heart, and never lose heart in anything. Such is prayer. How many times had G‐d rescued you from a situation or situations, thank G‐d for those times. Thank G‐d that you can find satisfaction in Him, thank G‐d that you have His provision to be able to be called to Him He is your Lord and your G‐d. John Piper had battled with depression a long time ago, and is a man. While He may not have pain, or has asked the Lord to give Him that blessing, or the Lord (Who has given that blessing, does so through His most merciful, and Grace Giving G‐d anyone may have the opportunity to believe and put their hope and trust in). This can be found in an episode on depression John did a while ago. On Psalm 40, John said was a "unique form of Evangelism." So in terms of this if you or anyone you know hurts, it's biblical to get prayer, as in James, and is not far from the hand of hand. Ask and ye shall receive. I had a friend who had a dislocated or so shoulder who had prayer, and while it wasn't immediately healed, it took 3 months but it healed my friend had faith, it was gradual but it was done. Others may have spuratic healing, others gradual, but G‐d healed my friend. Maybe you are talking about physical issues or not, but all in all, how can you or I negate John in the love of G‐d and the message, when it is about G‐d, and not us mortals ordained to His glory in those sufferings, sharing with Christ, or being molded into His Image? Those Saints glorify G‐d in those sufferings. We saints can be with them through and through, and they are not separate from the Lord, Who may strengthen them by relationship through that tragedy. I disagree with his definition of faith. Sure, everything about how we should relate to God should be joyful, but that doesn't mean it IS joy. Faith is a distinct concept and the word would lose its meaning if we defined it as "joy in God". To be fair, the word "faith" already has lost most of its meaning for most people today who think it just means trust or belief or even only belief without evidence.

Depending upon how regularly you listen to Piper, you'll see Kathleen barking like an annoying Chihuahua (it's unfortunately an apt analogy)... unsolicited and unprovoked, yet mentally deranged (like a fly that never stops). But while MR. C will probably not continue (hopefully he will be made well), Kathleen will still be here months from now, though people warn her from time to time. The enemy has a way within mental illness... It's sad... but then becomes annoying. She only comes here because the followers are Desiring God are patient, or they don't know quite how to deal with her... which is actually kind of dangerous because Desiring God's Godly forum becomes a sounding board for heresy like a parasite. The only god John Piper "desires" is the god of this world, the Devil. John Piper preaches damnable heresy that a saved Christian can lose their salvation and that we can somehow make it to heaven through our own righteousness. This is NEVER seen in the Bible, but actually instead is shown that the people that think this way will try and justify themselves before God at judgement and he will cast them into the fire. John piper cheapens the grace of God and the sacrifice of Jesus as some sort of seasoning. The Bible teaches that Jesus paid it all and paid for all that believe on him alone for salvation

I pray that I find my satisfaction in God, I intellectually know nothing in the world will satisfy other than God and try to act that way. I trust God can and will open my heart and reveal his goodness and glory to me in a way that will satisfy. I don't always feel that, and I am tired of whipping my thought patterns. I rather act like I love God by following his commands, knowing God strengthens and aids me in that desire, and I will leave it to God to work on my heart.

I just started listening and there’s two main things that are important one you only get this joy in the presence of God into it only happens when you’re rejoicing in God over everything else. There’s the answer. So if you have a joy that leaves it’s because of idols. Very simple. Someone dies, joy goes away. You get sick, joy goes away, you lose your house, your reputation, your money, joy goes away, it wasn’t in God. Let’s not be deceived.
Piper conflated joy with happiness. Joy is internal, a state of being that never leaves, like salvation. Happiness is external based on a set of favorable circumstances, which come and go.

[edit] I was inspired to write that before I got to the part where he mentioned his sons. I think it is for them. They will be saved. I have found God through a very strange path coming from atheism. I have had to work hard to decipher Biblical rhetoric and parse it in a way that satisfies my high intellect (not a brag as it is cleverness that kept me from God for so long). My goal while I was still an atheist was initially to help understand Christians and convince them to become atheist but to my amazement I found that when my translations spoke to me it was not because they were superior to the Bible but that they affirmed it. I found that I could not replace a single word, only provide a way for myself into God's Word. I hope I can help others along a similar path some day. (Perhaps JP's sons, that would be miraculous!)

Brothers, the Lord showed me 2 months ago, an extraordinary vision, regarding the DAY OF THE LORD. I saw myself outside, among the people, and suddenly, an immense light, which encompassed everything, coming from above, of an unimaginable force and power, hit us unexpectedly. At that moment, I didn't have time for anything, I just managed to shout: OH MY GOD! I woke up instantly, and I heard a voice in my head (I knew it was the Lord), which told me: GOAL! 3. If God has pre-condemned millions of people before they were born, then preaching the good news of the gospel to them is commanding them to do what they God will not allow them to do.

I agree with most of this message, but believers who are suffering find it difficult, to impossible, to find joy in anything. That is truth. May the good Lord reveal His truth to John Piper, who openly professes that his body does not hurt. Be careful of preaching on roads you have not walked. 🙏

The saints who suffer find joy in Jesus and G‐d Who gives them all spiritual blessings through Christ. Every one who suffers for Jesus will not come up empty, nor short‐handed, not even you. He loves them, and Peter talks about necessary suffering, and count it all joy is a good phrase; there is Thanksgiving and a need to take heart, and never lose heart in anything. Such is prayer. How many times had G‐d rescued you from a situation or situations, thank G‐d for those times. Thank G‐d that you can find satisfaction in Him, thank G‐d that you have His provision to be able to be called to Him He is your Lord and your G‐d. John Piper had battled with depression a long time ago, and is a man. While He may not have pain, or has asked the Lord to give Him that blessing, or the Lord (Who has given that blessing, does so through His most merciful, and Grace Giving G‐d anyone may have the opportunity to believe and put their hope and trust in). This can be found in an episode on depression John did a while ago. On Psalm 40, John said was a "unique form of Evangelism." So in terms of this if you or anyone you know hurts, it's biblical to get prayer, as in James, and is not far from the hand of hand. Ask and ye shall receive. I had a friend who had a dislocated or so shoulder who had prayer, and while it wasn't immediately healed, it took 3 months but it healed my friend had faith, it was gradual but it was done. Others may have spuratic healing, others gradual, but G‐d healed my friend. Maybe you are talking about physical issues or not, but all in all, how can you or I negate John in the love of G‐d and the message, when it is about G‐d, and not us mortals ordained to His glory in those sufferings, sharing with Christ, or being molded into His Image? Those Saints glorify G‐d in those sufferings. We saints can be with them through and through, and they are not separate from the Lord, Who may strengthen them by relationship through that tragedy. I disagree with his definition of faith. Sure, everything about how we should relate to God should be joyful, but that doesn't mean it IS joy. Faith is a distinct concept and the word would lose its meaning if we defined it as "joy in God". Really? Question: why flood the planet and drown innocent babies and toddlers when God could simply “poof” them out of existence? What does he have to prove? The only ones left are just a small family of people who would have accepted the “poofing” out of all people without question.
