Skaife will always be my favourite driver. His bathurst win in 2005 was what made me love him so much. He dominated so much in the early 2000's with hrt. One of the legends.
I was a Murphy and Ingall fan (to an extent) but I'm gonna admit that Skaife was a hell of a driver. extremely unpredictable and talented. despite coming as a prick in interviews, the guy was talented and passionate. mad respect
Magic Mouse Media hey mate, I was lucky to meet him one day when he was in my hometown of Griffith back in 2007. He seemed like a really nice bloke, quite shy sort of guy to be honest. I think a lot of people took his intense nature as being a arrogant prick.
@@Cdog79 Just shows, to be honest. Alot of drivers are like that. Their passion shows them in a certain way. Arrogant. The best drivers all had passion that will annoy a few people. However, that's what made them so great. Mr. Skaife is no different. I never disliked the guy, always had mad respect for him. Drivers like him is what made motorsport so incredible.
Just goes to show how brilliant Mark was in the middle sector over the top. At least 2 tenths lost in last sector with oversteer after the chase and the white line. I love this stuff. Legends.
Such an incredible talent. Born to race competitively throughout his career with exceptional knowledge of his cars. Was a true legend to the Holden stable and in good company as well with the likes of Brock/ Jim (rain master) Richards/Murph/Lowndes to name a few.
Splits Murphy 2003 1st split 0:51.435 2nd split 1:15.854 Skaife 2007 1st split 0:51.596 2nd split 1:25.724 So looks like the lap record may have been possible
@SciarroneF360 Thank the lord someone has finally said it, he is such a damn good driver and there were times in 2007 in particular where he barely got mentioned. This is how you show them!!!
I agree mate. He was a serious operator. I believe if he didn’t have team ownership responsibilities from 2003 onwards, he would of had even more success.
From champion to privateer battler to champion. What a inspiration. Not to mention learning your craft from Fred Gibson and Jim Richards, no wonder the guy held records.
But hang on, what is not mentioned here is that Frosty still had his lap to go, which he did and put his car on pole. Winterbottom/Richards got pole in 2007, not MS.

I like when ford drivers knock him off the track 🤣
As always his trademark “that’s as good as I can do”. What a legend
My childhood idol. Skaifey was a seriously good steerer. Brilliant lap from the legend.

Skaiife was the best H pattern gear chager of all time his onboard footage is great
Speaking of H-pattern gear shifting it kind of reminiscent to the late great Ayrton Senna
Absolutely. His loop changes were the best. I miss that with the sequential gearbox now. I still love hearing the legend in commentary these days.
I'll never get tired of seeing the 6th to 2nd downshift
Holden h pattern gearbox in old school manuals
Him an Ambrose were the Masters of H pattern oh an Lowndes

Splits
Murphy 2003
1st split 0:51.435
2nd split 1:15.854
Skaife 2007
1st split 0:51.596
2nd split 1:25.724
So looks like the lap record may have been possible
Doesn't add up
@@bobdown5520 Pretty sure it's a typo lol, no one's ever come close to a 1:15 at the 2nd split at Bathurst
Yes - Ṯypo from 10 years ago is still haunting me 😝
@@dx6789 It's alright mate, we'll never let you forget it!

I’ve seen F1 and MotoGP, at Circuit of the Americas, when these guys came, it was by far the most exciting race.
Mark skaif he was the best v8 supercar driver he had that driving experience.
Nothing like seeing the best do it !!
without those 2 mistakes this would have been the new lap of the gods
0.130 faster than murphy after 2 sectors.....but hey ya gotta finish the lap
Yes exactly! I have watched this clip so many times since it actually happened, watching the last sector is so frustrating! Was gonna be a 2:06:7??
Nearly 2 and a half tenths quicker than the lap that put him on pole the year before too..
Debe ser difícil conseguir la vuelta perfecta en un circuito tan largo y complicado. 👍👍🇪🇦🇦🇷
I love Mark Skaife.
There...I said it!!!!
What a bloody legend 🇦🇺🍻
If he didnt stuff up last sector would have done a 6 and bet murph LOVE YA SKAIFEY
Ambrose was my driver and im a die hard Ford man but i have to admit Skaife was a Master for Hsv
Legend!
Unbelievable ❤️
VE Holden commodore won 4 Bathurst in a row most successful car in Bathurst history
i dnt care what anyone says, SKAIFE IS THE GREATEST V8 SUPERCAR DRIVE OF ALL TIME 5 CHAMPIONCHIPS AND 6 BATHURSTS WHAT AN ANIMAL OF A DRIVER
Julian Sciarrone agreed. Miss these days.

As a staunch Ford man I did luv hating this ledgand !!
I think you mean second split for Skaife at 1:15.724?
Yep I tend to agree. Although I don't think it would of beat Murphy's lap, I reckon it could of been a 2:06:9 easily though.
if the 3rd sector was better this lap would have had the potential to beat Murph’s 2003 time.
1:07.192 wow, epic
But hang on, what is not mentioned here is that Frosty still had his lap to go, which he did and put his car on pole. Winterbottom/Richards got pole in 2007, not MS.
Yeah 1:15.724.
@dx6789 try 1.25.724 at second split
