  • Hey Everyone,
Today, we’re going to show you how to retrofit F80 M3 Paddle Shifters on your F30. This is the same on the 335, 328, 320 and many other BMWs. Sorry for the blurry shots, my auto-focus decided to have a mind of its own today ;)
After you do the retrofit, code this: FEM_Body ... 3190 --Paddles_Verbaut --aktiv
    Parts needed:
    Wires with Female Pins: amzn.to/2wBVkF1
    Wire Harness: Part Number:
    F80 M3 Paddle Shifter Part Number: 7847610014501
New Steering Wheel Back Plate: 32307848268
    Some helpful tools:
    Irwin T20 Big: amzn.to/2xdT4FG
    Thumb Ratchet: amzn.to/2xibwPl
Thanks for watching and please try everything at your own risk. If you’re interested in a professional installation by Kies Motorsports, please click here: www.kiesmotorsports.com/pages...

It continues to boggle my mind that you only have 8,900 subscribers. Your BMW videos are the best by a mile on YT. You're to the point, no click bait, no BS. Please continue doing what you're doing. You are a huge help to the 2, 3, and 4 series crowd. Thank you.

Just installed them on my F30 320d m-sport using this video as a guide, thank you for taking the time.
Only issue I had was where you say your using a 5/16 drill bit which equates to 8mm for us europeans, I was somewhat confused as that would have made the hole too big so I end up drilling a 3.5mm hole which is about 1/8th inch, that worked perfectly.
    Thanks again

Just finished retrofitting my f30 wheel and installed paddle shifters. I purchased the paddles, wiring harness, backplate, and 2 paddle shifter screws all separately. I found that the 5/16th hole that he said to drill was too big for the factory screws that are said to fit the paddles. I had to add 4 washers to each screw to have them sit correctly. This process was extremely time consuming, but this video helped a ton and I love the outcome. Another big issue I ran into was having a heated steering wheel, with this type of function my wheel had an extra box in the actual wheel so when my airbag wouldn't fit on correctly with the new wires. I had to cut some of the tape around the wiring harness and shove wires into deep crevices to have the airbag sit correctly. After a total of 5-7 hours, I got everything sorted out and using bimmer code to code in the paddles was a breeze. I am so happy with the paddles and encourage anyone to try this out, just make sure you go slow and make sure you have everything fit correctly.

I’m mid installation, but this is exactly what I’m facing. There’s a curved box which sits on the bottom right of the steering wheel. The black connector which is attached to the paddle shifter connector (i.e. the shorter one which goes to the left paddle shifter) must attach to a connector which comes out of the right side of that box. Miles away. I’m just going to extend this with a jumper lead.

Fantastic! Great video. I know this will help alot of people on the forums. I did this to my 2013 328i m-sport. Made a huge difference in control and feel while driving but also the transmission is alot more aggressive when coded for paddles. It is pretty silly that BMW left this as an option for m-sport trim cars..!

One more thing... Do you happen to know where to find a backing plate for a stock F30 328i wheel? I dont have the more round one like you do, I have the blocky rectangular one? I'll have to buy an entire new M Sport wheel with paddles pre installed if I cant find a backing plate.

Hello, first of all great work.
    I have a few questions:
Is it the same procedure with a F36?
If a cable is present in pin 5, then is at the steering wheel automatically a cable in pin 3?
Must be coded in the end?
    Thank you in advance.

When you add peddles, the minimum you can do is actually code Sport Auto so you get faster transmissions. On my F30 I initially had only Sport steering wheel without paddles, so I bought M3 one and regular peddles and mounted them on M3 wheel (I actually think standard peddles look better than M3 ones).

Hey Brian, can you tell me where I can purchase the two little screws that go into the back of the paddle shifters as well as the size of them? I ordered the shifters and I am installing an M3 steering wheel on my 335i, but just realized that I don't have the two screws to hold the shifters on.
    Thanks so much!

    Did the retrofit yesterday!
FYI: 5/16 drill bit ≈8 mm is too big, the OEM 14x4mm screw heads are too small which calls for a washer.. On the other side I drilled a pilot hole (5-6mm), and used the 5/16 bit going about halfway :)

Hey I just did this but now I’m getting a lane assist malfunction. I have not coded the paddles yet. Will the coding fix my lane assist or do I need a different wire harness? It’s strange because I left my original harness connected as well to the lane assist module but just left two connections unconnected because my new harness had those connections. Something is off. The new harness didn’t have anything for the lane assist. I’m also working with the non m, it’s the sport wheel.

What screws did you use to attach the paddles at 18:29?

I don't see the programming part of the paddle shifter install. In the video you say you'll link it in the description below.

Great video! I have the same steering wheel on my 228i with M Sport Package. Any idea if I can follow the same steps for retrofitting the paddles?

Hi, I'd imagine it's the same, but I would double check the wiring

    Hi Brian, great channel!
I'm afraid that Wire Harness Part Number 32306854769 is not correct. I ordered it and it doesn't have the grounding ring and also not the brown wire with the metal connector. Instead, it has an additional white plug. Could you help us find the correct number?
    Thanks!

Great video as usual. Wish you had at the end of video a clip of you driving the car and shifting with the paddles.

Hey man, nice video. I asked to the BMW dealer to install my paddles but they didn't want it to do it.
Do you know where can i take my car for the installation? I live in Wisconsin. Thank you!

Really love ur in-depth videos despite the fact i dont have a BM yet. All F30 year on year update prior to LCI dont have appealing interior and hence planning on getting F30 LCI to make up for all the expensive customization.
Possible to do a comparison LCI and your retro fit F30..??
