Toyota Tundra Engine Recall! How Much Will Dealerships Pay for Trade In/Buy?

  • Update! Oil Analysis Coming Soon!
    Well the peer pressure got to me! Hahaha! I took a trip to several dealerships just to see how much they would give me for my 2023 Toyota Tundra Platinum that has an active recall on the engine. Honestly the numbers somewhat surprised me. What do you all think would be a fair number for a Tundra Platinum with over 30,000 miles on it. All prices listed didn't include the extra tax savings if I were to trade in. We stopped at several dealerships including Toyota, Ford and Chevrolet. We also received offers from Carmax and Carvana.

    That's easier said than done when your truck is laid up at the dealership with a substantial repair that will follow it on Carfax. When your main mode of transportation is in the shop for months on end, you will feel differently.
    When there is a known major issue that is a great time to get out before the problems begin.
    Many makes have issues but this is a massively substantial one that will leave thousands of owners in the lurch and in negative equity even more so than it's already severely declining depreciation.

    • @LivingwithCable
      @LivingwithCable  28 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      You are never guaranteed anything with any vehicle. Yes it is a major recall but many vehicles have major problems. Unfortunately a friend of mine lost his entire shop including some precious items from his late dad and grandfather.
      Guess what it, was his Cadillac CTS-V. His wasn't part of the 2014-2016 recall as his was a 2011. They did pinpoint the fire started at the Cadillac.
      I do understand your frustration when something does go wrong. It sucks but these are mechanical things with really complex systems.
      Part of the blame lies on our government regulations and the push for electric vehicles and unreasonable fuel efficiency making engineers push boundaries that shouldn't be pushed.
      The other part is the crappy work force we have now developed. It was on a decline from the get-go, but Covid really give it a heck of a hand.

      I don't follow. A massive recall would be all over the news. I'm in TX the truck capital of the US and this story is no where. I had my wife's Pacifica in for a service and asked the mechanics about this story, they didn't know anything. All they had to share were horror stories about the Rams, how they were constantly fixing them. If you really like Tundra, then trade it in for different model and wait for a new one with redesigned engine. When the warranty expires and Toyota engine settlement offers peanuts, and your engine has any issues, you’re going to wish you got rid of it. Manufacturers pull the same play on problematic new engines.

      @@LivingwithCable It’s a “design flaw”, the recall includes Lexus engines same problem bearing. It’s a design flaw because engines are built in different factories so it’s highly unlikely that it’s “leftover debris”.. Toyota had to come up with some kind of explanation. The NHTSA were probably going to force Toyota to issue this safety recall so not sure why so many are giving Toyota credit? Fact is Toyota is in business to make money and have cut corners in their Truck Division so sad.. You should’ve stuck with the 2.0 or 2.5 Tundra Generation..

    So here's the thing, I'm a 2022 owner, I didn't like what was going on and I went on Google maps cuz I was pissed off and I left a one-star review, actually changed my five-star review, I didn't get rid of it or delete it. It I just added an update at the very top explaining how I feel like I've bought a worthless piece of junk! I feel robbed. I don't feel like I bought a Toyota. I don't feel like I have any value to what I bought and I don't feel like they have a solution. At any rate, the dealership is really anxious to get in touch with me right now and I haven't talked to them yet! I have an appointment with another dealer soon but the thing is I didn't stop there. I'm going to a bunch of different dealerships on Google maps and leaving the same review because as long as it's 100% honest, then there's nothing wrong with it. It is obvious that the dealerships really pay attention to Google maps reviews and they obviously have something set that when they get a one-star review it alerts them! There's nothing wrong with going to Google maps and the hundreds and hundreds of Toyota dealers and tell him Toyota what you feel about them and your purchase right now! If you want some attention to this matter, short of hiring a lawyer that you'll get $0.75 back in the end, I think Toyota needs to stand behind their product and just replacing half of the engine or even the whole engine with another one of the same engines that will have the same problem is not going to be the answer. Any other product that you buy anywhere else they will refund your money. You can take that junk back and give it to them and they'll give your money back! I think that's exactly what needs to happen here. Otherwise they need a whole new engine to put in there and give each and every one of us a warranty! Do you think all of our dealerships are even capable of replacing everything or even making a repair? I don't think so. They haven't even been able to catch up even with the last one with the gas filler line thing that they had to replace that they haven't even had in stock! So now we have to think about we have to go this thing done and that thing done. And oh yeah tear my inch and apart by the way, tear the top of my truck off to get to all of that. And when you give me the new engine g, I hope my turbo wastegates don't fail next LOL. No Toyota you produce a piece of junk and just like anyone else that sells junk. You need to buy this one back!

    • @LivingwithCable
      @LivingwithCable  25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I feel a little different about this. I would agree giving bad reviews to dealers who are not doing their job. I do disagree with giving them all bad reviews. So far, my dealer has treated me well considering I didn't even buy the truck from them. I saved a bunch going to the next state over.
      As far as the engine issue goes, unfortunately no one knows exactly what the fix is. I don't believe it is a design flaw because my motor should be blown by now if that was the case. I pull trailers a decent amount and some are not light, yet I am right now almost at 31k miles.
      I will wait and hold judgement for Toyota until I know what will happen on the recall.
