- When it comes to bass fishing, topwater lures can be some of the most fun and exhilarating when that bite gets going! But as those lakes fill up with anglers and the pressure gets intense, that topwater bite can get rough as the bass dive deep to avoid all the noise. In this video, we'll look at some of the methods I use for topwater, including what the best lures are to throw for a given situation and why. We'll also look at the gear I'm using when I'm bass fishing for that awesome topwater bite! #fishing #bassfishing #fishingtips

Where does summer topwater fishing rank on your list?
It’s my bail out i know where to go in my waters to catch em either to save a skunk or to put a cherry on top of a numbers day with a big bass
Probably my favorite method followed by a Texas rig worm or creature bait.
Top water in my #1 favorite way to catch em. Frog or popper work best for me. The blow up is the best.
Jitterbug for the win! That and slug-gos were my go to baits when I was a kid
Nice! A jitterbug is such a fun bait!
I love the old school torpedo's. I actually have a lot of success on the clear for some reason?
Are the new "Jointed Jitterbug 2.0" any good?
I haven't used those yet, but I am definitely going to be on the lookout for them!
That splashing sound a "torpedo" makes brings 'em hard. It sounds like bait fish pinned to the surface.
Good job bud! Love the content, getting better with every video!! Very knowledgeable!! I’ll get with you on the north end in the bass raider!!! Reminder you promised!! Lol

I'm looking forward to it!
Why use fluorocarbon line in the slop? I would use just straight braid.
I get fewer bites with straight braid. The bass are so line shy that they even avoid colored mono or fluoro so I use a clear fluoro that the fish can't see.
No whopper popper...🤔 I don't fish them but a few friends swear by them.
They are a popular choice!
I love topwater. Z-man Goat Toadz are my go to these days. It's flawless and lasts forever being a soft plastic. One on my baitcaster has caught about 8 bass and 3 pickerel this year and no tears. Literally have to cut your line and pull eye through the bait to retie because of the elastic in it.
That's awesome! Thanks for sharing!
A whopper plopper is an excellent search bait. I use it where I throw a spook or in places I work a buzzbait. Catches giant bass.
A plopper can be an excellent bait!
Why would you use a floro leader fishing a frog
Several reasons, actually: first of all, the bass in the waters I fish are super line-shy and will avoid anything the even hints of not being natural. While braid is hard to see coming through thick slop, there are big gaps when the braid is naked and exposed. I rarely get any bites on just straight braid. Second, it helps me cut and re-tie since my old man hands don't work as well as they used to. Braid is very wispy and can be hard to deal with, especially if there's any sort of wind.
How long of a floro leader do you use on a baitcaster?
I tend to use a longer leader; about 7-9 feet. I don't want the knot getting into the reel but I tend to cut and re-tie a lot so the length helps.
Back in the day what we used to do is let a floating minnow come to the surface give it a couple of twitches and then let it come back to the surface. The bass would eat it like crazy.
That's a great way to do it!
I just started reusing weightless flukes recently and saw a video on a wacky rig hook though the top, nail or mushroom weight through the nose. I used a z-man diesel minnow that's naturally buoyant and super lightweight shroom weight and fished like a wacky. Great action like a diving baitfish that bass are killing right now
I like a popper best. But sometimes I'll use small buzzbait. I like those since I fish from the bank
A good old popper is tough to beat!
A lot of real good info here. Just a couple things I would add. Whopper or chappo for a search bait top water are great. The other thing is, and especially for beginners. Don’t worry about fluorocarbon or mono leaders and the complicated knots you need to tie them together. Just throw strait braid on everything all the time. It’s not going to sink your lures that’s ridiculous. Fish don’t see your line and think… oh I see something strange. I think this is a trick. Nope! Don’t happen.

Topwater fishing is probably my favorite. These tips will help a lot. Thanks for sharing this video!
Thanks so much for watching!
I like topwater a lot but I'm not very good at it. These tips will help a bunch. Thanks!
I'm happy you found it useful!
It's my favorite thing year round in florida. And I almost never lose l topwater lures.go Lowbrow 💥🎣🤠🤙
Topwater bites are a blast!
I love using poppers around isolated targets. So fun to coax them out of that stuff!
Agreed! I love it when that bass blows up on a popper from out of nowhere! Always gets my heart racing!
You don't play your fish. I find it less challenging to winch in a fish. It might as well be a boot or a log.
Thanks for watching!
At the top of my list! Thanks for sharing some helpful information! Appreciate you and what you do buddy!
Awesome! Thank you!
I haven't got anything on topwater this year. Closest thing I had is when a bass blew up on a wacky rig as soon as it hit the water. But I'm going to keep trying.
Keep at it! You'll get that topwater bite going!
