Microsoft introduced a new feature in Power BI that can suggest DAX formulas for you. You can ask for the DAX measure you need in natural language and artificial intelligence will write the DAX code for you. The AI used is OpenAI GPT-3. It's one of the first AI integrations of GPT-3 in the Microsoft applications. In this video we'll see how well this works. It's also important to test your DAX measures and also some scenarios you need to be aware of. So you'll have to currently "correct" the automatic DAX measures that are written for you.

Thank you Leila for this introduction. Can help learn and understand complex DAX better, but I personally feel that, one has to manually learn and apply technology and use such tools for occasional quick solutions and enhancements, rather than as a substitute for the joy of understanding and applying by self...

Thank you for an inspirational and well documented video, have not tried the AI tool yet, but see it as a great help. And for the question, will AI make learning obsolete? - that will be a big mistake leading to trust everything we see.

Thanks for the demo Leila. The upside is that more people will start using Power Bi. The downside is that fewer people will actually understand what they are doing, or trying to do.
The "smarter" that our apps and devices become, the "dumme??" the user become. My 10 year old ephew can use a calculator to multiply but is clueless to do so with a pencil and paper.

    • @JBB685
      @JBB685 ปีที่แล้ว

The calculator is an interesting example. I would probably struggle to do long division on paper but would argue that skill is pretty much useless at this point. But I agree the user is being given more & more interfaces between him & the computer, which has its downsides.

Exactly my thoughts. There will be some benefits, for sure, but I can't stop thinking about how AI is taking over the one thing that excites me - getting to solutions by myself. The process (in my case) is what motivates me...

Without knowing DAX you won’t know if the answer you’re getting is correct or how to tweak it, so it’s probably still worth it at this point

    • @JGComments

Try it but use it to actually learn the DAX patterns it suggests, and not to try to avoid doing your work. Best use is when you don’t know how to solve a problem, it are pretty sure it’s possible. A
If you start with very simple examples, you can Google the key functions and actually learn what the chatbot is suggesting and learn to apply it to your actual work situation. Always reference actual documentation online and actually learn DAX. Remember, ChatGPT doesn’t actually understand what it’s doing, it’s just suggesting the most likely solution based on the words in your prompt, so it will sometimes get things wrong.

i disagree i think this function is amazing! if you give it more context like telling it where the column are located and giving it more context it would give you the correct answer. With chat gpt i managed to get extremyle complicated measures, without it i could not get them in a lifetime

    Hello,
I want to filter my table, choose only rows that in a [colonne comment] text contains a substring "test".
    With DAX
    Filter(my table, contains ([colonne comment],"test")).
This function give me an error.
Could you please help me to fix it.
    Thanks in advance

Seems just as complicated as learning DAX with the added problem that it may or may not give us the results what we want. Once we learn to code things its a lot simpler to write out the code than to go through hoops learning the intricacies of this AI feature.

I feel like AI is being forced into use cases it isn't good at. I equate it to rolling dice. If you aren't sure what restaurant or what menu item you want to eat, rolling dice is fine, it could lead to trying new food that you might enjoy, but if you're trying to generate an expense report, you don't roll dice to get your numbers. With AI, if you're trying to come up with a fictional story, it can give great ideas, but it's not so good at generating factual information.

    Good evening.
A co-worker left the company and now I need to edit an APP that he is the owner of. I have to revise a few measures but I am not able to edit them. Options to download, etc are greyed out. Is there any solution to this case? Is there any application that I can use ?

Is it just me or does it appear that all this AI is not really that helpful at all - you basically spend just as much time figuring out how to spoon feed it data OR you have to so thoroughly review what it created to ensure it is correct that it's not a replacement for knowing how to do it yourself.

Human learning of computer sandbox play as an education path to employment is now archaic. Probably as unnecessary as being able to work a cash register at retail jobs. If a computer can do this dreary thinking burnout work, I think it's a big win for humans. Who wants to do this computational garbage? No one, except the generations who were told "to get a good job, get a good education". That slogan was BS fifty years ago and it's even more BS today. Finally we can see the fruits of alien technologies that have been unseen since the 1940s. Jobs, in general , are a lost 20th century diversion for the masses. Let's all get back to dreaming, breathing, and living. Work is for robots.

If you're already wealthy enough to retire now, great, otherwise there will be no utopia for you. The best case scenario is that after a lot of hardship and civil unrest, governments eventually put everyone on a universal BASIC income, and we'll all get live a life of relative hardship and stunted freedoms. The profits from increased profit margins will be pocketed by those at the top of the corporations, and the disparity between the rich and poor will be greater than anything we've known. (And no, governments won't be able to force them distribute their profits through the population, they can't even get them to pay their taxes properly.)
