That's amazing Leila! While it is great to have this tool, couple of things about what you said in the end... 1) If this was made available before few years, we would have missed learning from you, many tricks, tips and inputs on Excel and other topics in person. and 2) There is no substitute for the self efforts to understand and apply the techniques by learning, and ChatGPT may be used as a starting point, or as a quick fix, when you don't have time due to urgency/demand. Totally agreed. ChatGPT requires oversight. You can't take everything it gives you without cross-checking and having your own view. The model is still learning.
Nice! Would love to see this done in the Excel Macro or VB script space. Commercial Excel is required for Scripts so it leaves some of us out. Thank you. As a 20 year MS vet who started while we were battling Lotus 123, it is great to see you showcasing these great features.

I can't stop to be amazed by how you can leverage the capabilities of AI to work for you. @Leila, you are a real inspiration to the excel and tech world etc
I'm 80 years old in a few days, so I'm close to checking out whether I like it of not and I have FOMO. Wow, this is such great stuff. I'm been using it for some C and Python code I've been dabbling in. I just happened to see Leila over on the right in the list of videos and decided to check it out as ChatGPT was mentioned with Excel. I'm going to have a go at it later. Leila, you do a really really good job. Keep it up.
Awesome integrations! However, ChatGPT does not really analyze this financial statement as an analyst would do it. If you change your question to simply "can you analyze this financial statement", it will tell you the company is very healthy with strong assets. If you suggest it might be at risk, it will find risks, if you make suggestions it will follow it. It is true that this language generation AI can be trained for specific purposes like finding numerical patterns in financial data for example, however I think it's very important that people who promote the use of such tool understand how the answers are built and what's their status.
Wow, this is amzing stuff! I was thinking about this the other day. Thought that it would be nice if it could analyze my data for me and show me how to do the formulas.
Great insights. This will change the way we use Excel. Though it makes it useful for dumb users, I still think we need to kow a lot about Excel, the ability to set-up and do an API call etc.. but the level of advancement in usage would be phenominal. Thanks Leila for the insights and this will set the mind ringing on how to leverage AI in excel.
Good work! A few questions. 1. Why can't you ask GPT-3 to write your OfficeScript? 2. How far are we from doing the following: Refer a data range to GPT-3 and prompt it to answer an analytical question. We can now ask to write some code and then execute it to get the answer. Of course, later we can build more complicated analysis, What do you think?

Leila, you are awesome! As always, I've learned so much from you courses. However, I keep getting the error Line 46: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading '0') for const text: (string | boolean | number) = json.choices[0].text; In reading other messages you mention the API key. I regenerated the key (so tried two key) and I've pasted it into the API sheet B1 and still get the error. Any suggestions on how to resolve. Also using business account, saved on one-drive business, and have Office 365 automate option. Thanks in advance.
I got the same error, before I asked the Bot a question. I also fixed line 23: headers.append("Authorization", `Bearer ${apiKey}`); where I had used apostrophes instead of backquotes- which may have corrected it. Once I corrected that and asked a question, that error resolved (I also had to delete the original Run button and replace it with a new one, and renamed and resaved the script).
@@LeilaGharani Ah, that's fantastic! I've used macros on a number of occasions and was very sad to see them stripped from online access -- especially since I have a lot of colleagues I design workbooks for whom that's the only way they access Excel. I'm going to have to look into Office Scripts. Maybe you've already created a video on using those Scripts to import ChatGPT into Excel, but if not, that'd definitely be something I'd be very excited to learn.
Bravo. Hubert (France). Traduction google : Impressive to have picked up the Indirect function, in 10 seconds! Function so difficult to make understand to many. Automatic synthesis? Well we come back to the same basic problem on Excel: how to be sure of the basic data (validity, structure...) to be sure of the result of the synthesis? Your demo is impressive. Cheer.
Yeah, cross checking is critical! ChatGDP is still liable to go totally off sometimes (especially with complex problems) ... but, as you point out, it's still a good tool to help us humans get there! The oversight seems really important so we don't automate this entirely. Personally I'm slightly concerned about the feedback loop where AI generated content inavertantly generates it's own training sets from what it's generated ... guess we'll see.
Absolutely right. I luv the opportunities for using integrated AI to streamline actions, activities and information. The video is a nice representation of that and a nice, inspiring presentation. I'll definitely take the steps to automate and link internal information through code. We just also need to be aware of the limitations of AI generated responses at this stage. It does not KNOW things. It mimics, and predicts. Test, verify, utilize what you can in ways you can. do NOT take responses for granted when asking questions...Sudan isn't #10 in area in any reliable list I can find. AI hallucination and factual failures abound at this stage. The automation within your workbooks is great! Well worth the video. Grabbing information from the web is still just as reliable as the random web. Be aware. Thanks for the vid!
Great Video, I downloaded the excel sheet, changed the API key and tried to run from the script but came up with errors, I better get back to work now 🙂
Awesome to see this done with Office Scripts! I'm curious to hear your preference between building this in Office Scripts vs PQ. I made a video a while back about integrating the ChatGPT API into PQ and giving it a front end much like this in Excel. Would love to hear what you think! th-cam.com/video/GzrcS5ws_nw/w-d-xo.html
Your first step was more advanced that I was capable of understanding. I've been using Excel for many years, but I just didn't understand where you came from starting off. If I have a cell open, how can I get it to go online?
Leilah I am a Regular viewer of you channel and I love the way you explain all formulas. I have a problem on Excel: D5 contain some data number. my criteria is- if D5 contain 3 there would be 1 in H5 & for Every 3 there will be added 1 with the previous one on H5. Example: D5 contain 6- H5 have to be 2. if D5 contain 9. H5 have to be 3 I hope it's really easy to you. And you'll give me the solution. Thanks Leilah. Love From Bangladesh
Example script uses model "text-davinci-002" which is not in use anymore. I got this working by replacing that with "gpt-3.5-turbo-instruct" It's line 18. ChatGPT didn't know where the problem was, but it helped me get proper error message and there find the correct error.
Hi, I'm going to bet you have an example that does the following that I and other Excel fans would greatly appreciate. Ex. Column A, B = Company Name and stock symbol. Column C - Have ChatGPT return something in column C for each company (based on the stock symbol in column B) Any chance you have something like this to share?
OMG this is amazing and killing me at the same time. We followed your recipe today to reproduce your results in excel and couldn't get it to work. What are we missing?

Thanks Leila - Been following your channel for a while and there a lot of tricks I have learnt from you. Keep up the good work. This one makes it easier for me to start playing around with ChatGPT native to excel.

Wow...thank you for highlighting such a powerful feature for excel...cant wait to see this take off. Have you done more videos with Office Scripts? If not...maybe an area of opportunity to exemplify other use cases for this. Thank you very much for all the things you share.
This is very great video Leila, thank you very much. Yet, as you said, we need to double check all the information comes for AI since it can be wrong or out of date. For example, Sudan is no longer in the top 10 biggest country by area because it was divided into two different countries North Sudan, and Southern Sudan. Still, this is very brilliant tutorial. Keep the great work!

You're the best teacher to me, your teaching style I like most.
Is there any plan that you will launch an office script course in the near future!???
Please, how do you integrate ChatGPT in Excel?? Is this an Add-In?? How do you create this button directly in Excel? Thank you.
I'd very much like to know, too.
It's not an add-in. It's using Office Scripts which is new macros of Office 365 (similar to VBA but Office Scripts also works online).

Impressive to have picked up the Indirect function, in 10 seconds!

I have no idea on how chatgpt works but as someone who works in excel and sheets I badly want to learn this. Exciting stuff wow
Your first step was more advanced that I was capable of understanding. I've been using Excel for many years, but I just didn't understand where you came from starting off. If I have a cell open, how can I get it to go online?
Thank you for contributing Leila. This is fun
Leilah I am a Regular viewer of you channel and I love the way you explain all formulas.
I have a problem on Excel:
D5 contain some data number. my criteria is- if D5 contain 3 there would be 1 in H5 & for Every 3 there will be added 1 with the previous one on H5.
Example: D5 contain 6- H5 have to be 2.
if D5 contain 9. H5 have to be 3
I hope it's really easy to you. And you'll give me the solution.
Thanks Leilah.
Love From Bangladesh
I have been watching your videos for the last few months and find them to be very excellent. I really enjoy them a great deal :-)
Example script uses model "text-davinci-002" which is not in use anymore. I got this working by replacing that with "gpt-3.5-turbo-instruct"
It's line 18.
ChatGPT didn't know where the problem was, but it helped me get proper error message and there find the correct error.
Hi, I'm going to bet you have an example that does the following that I and other Excel fans would greatly appreciate.
Ex. Column A, B = Company Name and stock symbol.
Column C - Have ChatGPT return something in column C for each company (based on the stock symbol in column B)
Any chance you have something like this to share?
Thank you! I learnt some JavaScript and got this to work in google sheets :) I can send the code if anyone wants it
I would love this code!
as a soprano fan, this starts really well
OMG this is amazing and killing me at the same time. We followed your recipe today to reproduce your results in excel and couldn't get it to work. What are we missing?
Thank you, thank you, thank you! This will save me untold hours of research. You are amazing Leila! You provide quality information that is much appreciated.
Very creative 😲
I was in shock when I saw the title
This is the future and this is just a scratch on the surface, the idea has potential for a lot of things. Well structured explanation.
I can't believe I created a similar excel. It worked! This is awesome!
Wow! That’s super helpful and like 3 lessons - Excel, scripts, api integration - all in one video!
Hi Leila, absolutely love your work, this is one if those eureka moments you have a few times a year, watching this. Now you have us longing this functionality....2 q’s: 1. Where can I access this script and, 2. Can this run on vanilla version of excel or do you need an enterprise version?
Thanks Leila - Been following your channel for a while and there a lot of tricks I have learnt from you. Keep up the good work. This one makes it easier for me to start playing around with ChatGPT native to excel.
Leila, you always present EXCEL skills very succintly.. TQ
thank you. amazing. the only thing is that just dumping balance sheets with different years into the prompts confuses AI and it gives absolutely crazy answers
It's a very useful video, thanks for sharing.
I use docs (coda, notion, etc) but forced to use excel at work. I'll def be implementing this. Thanks
Just Wow!!!!!
Please do a lot of videos on automation using scripts
Quel talent ! Merci Leila ! Anytime I hear and see your productions that inspires really much. Today with GPT_3 and MS Script integration, l have a lot to grind. ;-)
Hi Leila
Thanks for this wonderful presentation. My question is can we use excel macros instead if office scripts/ automate
Thanks for sharing the scripts writing process as well
Love that ghost typing though the panel. Prefer to be my kitchen hand.
I really appreciate the INDIRECT formula it generated to pull in the diff Sheets.
YOU ARE FANTASTIC, LEILA !!!
Thanks for the awesome video !
Wow...thank you for highlighting such a powerful feature for excel...cant wait to see this take off. Have you done more videos with Office Scripts? If not...maybe an area of opportunity to exemplify other use cases for this. Thank you very much for all the things you share.
Thanks Leila, Not often I´m lost for words, but this is simply outstandingly interesting.
Thank you! I was super excited too when it worked ; )
Awesome stuff. A whole new world has opened
I really enjoyed your video! 👌👌👌👌👌 Looking forward to your next one! 😜
