EXCELLENT work, this sort of diligence would make an owner of a vehicle with problems transport it to a good garage and even wait if that garage is busy knowing its in good hands 🙌

Good Friday night, and I've just gobbled down a decent portion of coronation chicken, complete with Pitta bread . Got to wait a while for afters . Whilst waiting, I've decided to log onto SY Diagnostics for a masterclass . SY diagnostics - bring on the Geek talk . Pud was ready half way through and so I didn't to the end, but I caught something about a spilt fizzy drink on the dash, and I am surmising that the Phosphoric acid (or what ever ) in the drink was to blame for the problem. There's no telling what havoc could have been wreaked with a can of Iron Bru !
As the motor car has greatly increased in complexity - so to, the ingenuity required to get to the bottom of faults and breakdowns.

Ive got one right now that is saying “immobilser active see hand book” and on live data the key is “not present “ 2014 model also a dtc “battery relay B closed” and another “battery relay B open” lots of green verdigree on the pins in the bcm that go to the key reader but the cables appear to be good - no resistance. So ive popped open the BCM and someone has already carried out repairs to the board and it has been ok for about a year under the present owner but I wonder if some of the fuse pins are “dry”

Radio/interior lights/hazards etc always work. Very intermittent. Worried it could be bcm but think it's more likely to be a short somewhere like in video. Good job, wish me luck 😮

Great work, well impressed :) the whole story shows that great technology still needs the support of common sense. Rubber grommet (5p worth);on the hole where the harness passes through the strut or more resilient sleeve on the loom added by Ford designer at the drawing desk would probably save more than few break downs. Great investigative work, very educating. I just wonder what is going to happen to the world when our generation of people who are used to putting effort and passion into whatever they do dies out ;), well done, mate!!!

I filled up at the garage, went & paid, came back and no dash lights, or warning lights ..would not start, not even a 'click ' nothing only a blank dash. Got lights & the remote door locks worked.( i have had a full set of door locks & door protection plates fitted, but its been fine & that was 3 weeks before the fault occurred . both Green flag & AA(ford assist) said get it to a ford dealer asap. The fault is intermittent though. I got it back yesterday after 7 weeks and told the plug in found no faults, addBlue says half full. So, i just have to 'keep an eye on it'. Awesome video, just a quick question when the CAN failed did you check the signal at the OBD port and was it showing the same short? Just wondering if they are truly linked through the gateway
As I was under the same understanding as you that testing at the obd is no longer possible as the gateway is it's own can network and is separate from the rest of the CAN, I work at a nissan dealership so maybe be slightly different I dont know but seems the same idea to stop people from messing with the network from the obd port

multiple similar faults on transit (2.2 i presume), a hard one to help with without experiencing it. But have you got feed to the starter? the starter relay is controlled via the pcm, can be viewed on live data

Hi thanks for replying. Yes have power to the starter relay. Also have check the key ignition and that’s working fine also . I have been told the bcm is not communicating with the ecu ? Not sure what this means . But van was working fine went to it in the morning and have this problem 🤦

i'm not impressed with fords build quality, they were always known as Fix-Or-Repair-Daily in my day, but after viewing many of your vid's this cam bus system coupled with the poor multiplug design issues it's got worse to my mind, i got a 2014 connect LTD im trying to sort after it died with the no start issue i put it into a local auto electrics firm who said the BCM was screwed ( by the way they never got it running ) so dragged it back to mine and left it took battrey lead off as precaution , went back to it a fortnite later to see if i could find anything put lead back on throttle body started to wind up im thinking will this start now and it did i'm now doing a shearlock holmes on this now to track down the fault and where it could be , got a few ideas from watching your vid's and on it goes' cheers ............

Mine same fault. Found earth wires under fuse box to inner wing rotted off.
Chuck's abs lights on and brake light and engine manage light on and no Speedo before packs up.
Re routed both earth wires and solved it.
No testing gear apart from code reader. No connection to vehicle.
    Might help

Excellent diagnostic testing procedure as well as repair on this transit! I do have one question for you though, how did you modify your DLC Breakout Box to accomodate the new gateway communication module connections? I would love to know that. Thank you very much.

Great video, very interesting seeing your process for finding the fault. What is it with transit customs and their wiring? I have a 2 year old custom and its had new harnesses in both front doors due to broken wires and the drivers one has just gone again!

door harness seems to be a weak point

Ha! Hello me ... yeah, what a cunt of a job. 3 whole days testing, understanding the ridiculous wiring. Bypassed the loss of 12v contract power and job done. Now its off road again with different electrical fault (3 days after having a new steering rack fitted). Fucking shite design
