    Dan, without question you have the "Gift" to impart knowledge! No question about it - your presentation was a "10" all of the way! Having worked, and taught, a lot of Aircraft Avionics, I really love to watch and listen to someone who can make a difficult system very easy to understand. You are one of the best I've ever seen or heard.Many thanks for helping me understand (at least on a cursory level) the CAN buss - just learning how all of "this" fits together. :) At 79 years of age, I'm just now learning how to work (somewhat) on my vehicle ('07 Lacrosse, 3.6 Ltr.) I'm gaining some ground, and I'm sure your tutorials will be a great assist. Can't thank you enough.

      I don't know what to say really, just that I'm very honored. Respect that you are trying to learn about the can-bus system at 79! Another reminder that we are never finished learning in this industry.
      An honor having you here Sir, thanks for watching my video's it's appreciated Micheal👍💪

    Hello Dan. I must say this is the best demonstration I have yet to see regarding Can diagnosis! only a select few people I have found In my search of education have been able to break down what at first seems to be overwhelming complicated syestems/scenarios into it's most simplest form Making learning fun and injoyable. You sir are the real deal! Few and far between! We are all blessed to have you sharing with us. Thank you

    I have always sent vehicles with canbus issues to the auto electrician down the road.

    This also reaffirms that information is key to success.

Your approach to problem resolution is one that every mechanic should possess. I have gone to dealerships and have been severely disappointed with the so-called diagnosis gurus. Keep on posting more. Is there any chance you can post a description of the software you are using currently?

    In the network engineering world we call "echo" signal reflection and the twists are to prevent cross talk with other pairs (which would be the same as interference from another inductive load). In the old day of thin net we use to use terminators at the end of the run for the exact same reason.

      Dan got called in on a 2012 VW Touraug the other day for a parking brake fault. The guys had done rear brakes and rotors, the parking brake is drum setup with electric actuators , they had not touched this during the brake job. Apparently before the brake joe they should have gone in and recorded the Coding number and mm clearance stored in the module, was not able to restore function. Trip to the dealer , tough system

    Fantastic video, clear and detailed! Great explanation with the slightly higher voltage on the waveform with the ABS module unplugged.
    Will you be doing any more CAN related videos?

      GRUSS Newton, Yes i'll do more video's on networks, can-bus e.o. We'll dive a little bit deeper every time. The only problem is i never know when a good case study comes along. So i can't tell you when. In the meantime i'll do other intresting video's!😁

    This makes so many things clear for me. I am currently working with CAN bus for the first time and I was looking for videos on how it is implemented in industrial setting like a car. Thank you so much for your fantastic explanation and step by step diagnosis of the fault and subsequently rectifying it. You are awesome!

    Best explanation I've seen yet! I've steered clear of these things because the explanations usually were a bunch of technobabble. Some of the stuff where they converted a BMW 5 series to Electric makes a lot more sense now. Thanks Dan!

    Oops, I had a question Dan and forgot to mention it in my previous post. If the ABS module was unplugged and it didn’t make any difference, do you typically plug it back in and move to the next module? Or do you leave it unplugged and move to the next module? The reason I’m asking is when there is a possibility of more than one module fault on the bus. Thank you!

    • @Diagnosedan
      @Diagnosedan  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      stuzman, i would have plugged it back. The chance that you have 2 modules failing at the same time is not likely.

    Just one question, don't you need to code the new module in order to make it work properly? Provide it with correct vin number, type of transmission, stability control version etc? Or is it separate subject on a separate video? Anyway good job, keep it up :)

    • @Diagnosedan
      @Diagnosedan  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gerardas Nausutis, I tried to concentrate on the Can-bus in this Video! There will be a separate video on programming and coding.
      But indeed the module needs to be coded!👍

    Excelent video! Thank you! I Subscribed, allowed me to add (of course you know that but just for the subscribers) that also the twisted wires in a CAN line perform the function of creating a electromagnetic field all along and around the cables that does not allowed any (or very little) outside electrical and electomagnetic interference (noise) to the main signals. I also have a question Dan, can you please tell me in which of the CAN cables(CAN Low or CAN High) does the Middle CAN signal travels on? Thank you for the answer.

    Love your channel, I almost finish Automotive school. This part of the diagnostic is an advance class not cover in the school. I am glad I found your channel. there is vast information to cover related to network communications and other parts of diagnostic. In my opinion, you are professional with a great knowledge of diagnostic. Diagnostic is the area most technicians lack experience or knowledge.
