To get a yellow connector hose, you can also boil the vinyl hose in a pot of water with the spice turmeric. It gives the hose a great yellow coloring to it.
When I was 16, I found a pair of Corcoran jump boots in my size at a thrift store. I think I paid $12 or something absurd like that. Wore em every day for years...to school, to punk shows, to work. 25 years later, I still have em, and unlike every boot I've bought since, they remain 100% intact. They were made to take a LOT of wear. No side zip, but otherwise perfect for Ghostbusting. Also perfect for The Crow, Alex from A Clockwork Orange...I've gotten a lot of Halloween mileage out of them. haha
Thank you for this video.... I totally overlooked the clear hose.... I went to Home Depot today and bought some, though I had to get 3/8 in. instead because I couldn't find couplings that fit correctly
Not sure why this just came up in my YT algorithm as I've already watched and rated it. Lol But just a reminder to say this a great video James! Well done!
Atari Metalhead since you’re in WV, if you don’t have any plans this weekend you should come out to the Mothman Festival in Point Pleasant, WV. 30’ tall Stay Puft will be on display Saturday & Sunday.
Great video! Thanks for the links. When it comes to the proton pack I personally prefer creating custom versions with unique designs & different light patterns rather than sticking to the movie version.
I appreciate this, I just got the Life Size Proton Pack by Spirit Halloween, I just need the suit and belt really cause I'm not going for SUPER accurate, just the most accurate and recognizable I need to be for a Halloween party. The PKE Meter and trap is something I gotta wait on cause I've already backed the HasLab Two in the Box set from last year so it's gonna be when they come in I get them. So far the Proton Pack and Two in the Box set are the most expensive parts of the costume and I'm REALLY not willing to go out of my way on the boots to be super accurate for something I might not wear often. Belt, gloves, and maybe a set of goggles is on the table...but the goggles are the most "Maybe" of the things. I am a little dubious about the Ebay patches if only cause while I'd like my name on the patch...it feels weird, but then again they gotta have your name anyway to ship it to you.
geraldine woods sounds like a fun project. Fair bit of warning, most fabric dyes work best on 100% cotton. The flight suit I have is a 65/35 polyester/ cotton mix and probably wouldn’t take dye very well. So I recommend you look for dye that works with polyester.
Anyone who's even remotely into making things should definitely have the basic setting tools for snaps and rivets. They're cheap, they're simple, they work, and you can make so much great stuff. 👍
Any thoughts on safest and best way to hold the wand to the belt when not on the proton pack? Its done in the movie and i have spirit proton pack just not sure how to temp hold the wand to the belt at times. Thanks! I enjoyed the video too! Great tips! Very helpful
I don’t have mine set up to clip to my belt (that’s something I should work on myself) but the wand on the spirit pack is super light so I’m sure you could use one of the dog collar clips I talk about to clip it to your belt. Maybe hot glue some of the nylon cord to the wand and clip it to one of the key chains on your belt. It’s so light I wouldn’t worry about hurting it much.
Finally putting together a busting uniform, for whenever Halloween is a thing again. Thanks for helping me along. I figure I'll drop about $350-400 on it, and leave room to improve it over the years. I considered doing an off-duty buster for more like $200, but...ever since I was a kid, and I shook the coins outta my Oliver Hardy bank, and went down to Zayre's (Ocean State represent! 😆) to buy my very own Kenner Real Ghostbusters Proton Pack, I've always always always wanted a pack. haha The Spirit version, I can definitely weather down and work with. Especially after mounting it on an ALICE frame. I don't buy from Amazon anymore, but eBay and army surplus are saving me a few bucks off Amazon prices, and offering up more goodies. Thanks again, you do good work. I read that Primer article before stopping here, and it's an invaluable resource...I like your presentation of the information found there. 😎👍
My stepdad was a pilot so what's funny is when I decided to do this, I basically had access to a walk-in closet full of Ghostbusters uniforms, and got a nice tan one which was closest in color to the original also standard issue combat boots look really good in these outfits already had a pair
A local Army Surplus store was having a inventory reduction sale . I lucked into a perfect pair of boots in my size (13), like the ones in the movie, for only $10.
Hey Robert, In the movie they just have the hoses tucked into their belts. It isn’t connected to anything. For my costume I took one of the plastic clasps from the dog collars and attached it to the belt like the other key chains. Then I hot glued the other end of the clasp to the hose so it snaps into the key chain. IDK if that’s the best way to do it & it isn’t screen accurate, but it works for me.
Any tips for a child's flight suit? In the UK especially its impossible to find one with a reasonable amount of pockets and detail. Only super thin cheap and nasty ones with fake zips on the chest.
How tall are you bro? I bought two truspec flight suits from L to M..they're still big for me..i thought S size would be ridiculous for me but lately im considering to buy it..yours seems to fit just right..
Last question i am having a terrible time with the leg hose. The video was quick to go over ways to do it or how it would screw on. Any suggestions or clarifications? I tried 2 different ways and it didnt work. I like the idea of the screw on hose and be able to remove it without damaging the suit.
justin hansen hmmm mine just screws right on without any issues. If you shoot me a message over on Facebook I’ll see if I can get a little video attaching it to my suit to show you.
I took some 1/2" vinyl tubing (bought at Home Depot) and boiled it in water mixed with ground turmeric until it was permanently stained a solid yellow. I then used a 1/2" PVC male nipple and glued that to the end of the tubing, which was cut to length. I then bought a threaded 1/2" female PVC pipe union (it comes in 3 pieces), screwed the top part of it to the nipple and then "attached" it to the flight suit by screwing the middle part from the inside of the uniform to the top part on the outside of the leg. You don't need the third part. There problem solved.
Oh yeah, and don't forget to spray paint the nipple black and the PVC union gray. I then finished it off by tucking the other end of the tubing into my utility belt, since that is basically what the guys do with it in the movie.
@@JustSomeNerd Definitely. The suit and small equipment looks like it will be a quick assembly. The biggest and most detailed will be the pack, and trap.
I bought a simple light kit from an eBay seller (sellers name is Jupiter something). For sounds, I have one of the Mattel wands that has its own sound effects. So the way I did it was very simple. Others have much more involved setups.
Old Video but quick question. for the leg tube did you just screw the fitting on top of your pants (what i mean is put one fitting underneath the pant leg and one on top)? Or something else? How did you get the fitting onto the pant leg without sewing it on?
Great job on the video man! Me and my Ghostbusters team thanks you for the leg hose hack with the PVC piping. That’s gonna make washing our suits a lot easier! I’ve actually got the Spirit Halloween pack and upgraded it with things from eBay, Amazon, and my local hardware store. Hey Geoperez, thanks for the question! Here is a link to the suit you see in the background in the video. amzn.to/2KLK8Sa The screen worn suits were actually dark gray, not navy.
