V2 would absolutely be Movie Masterpiece Blackout. It's my all time favorite figure in my collection - all the pros from the Studio Series figure are amplified tenfold. And it's HUGE.
“Check again and re-check” “Did sir, a friend of mine was on that chopper.” Still some of the coldest, coolest lines in all the TF movies. Sets the tone and demonstrates how just cool as a cucumber Blackout is!
Really gives the appropriate shivers of essentially seeing your friend’s casket dug back out and being dragged home with almost inhuman pristine condition in the final hour of daylight
Blackout, Barricade and the scorpion scenes are the most I remember outta all the Michael Bay transformers movies. Even as a kid I thought Blackout had a slick design one of my favorites for sure.
Thew, in my early teen years I had an interest in Transformers and remember watching many of your reviews. I'm 27 now and have just rediscovered your channel purely by chance. I'm glad to see that you're still at it and, I admit, hearing that heavy metal guitar intro music after so many years brought a smile to face. Thank you for the memories.
@@1065chris Hes not. Hes the same size as blackout for his entire screentime (standing about 30ft, about the same as megatron). They just made him much, much taller (50ft) for his death so prime climbing up him didnt look ridiculous
Hoarding Cardboard = Hoardboard I bin all those too. I think the only one I kept was the one that came with SS Kup. Because I want that squid bot as a toy. Great video as always.
Man... i got to say, IMO, the scene with lennox talking to his family is legit the best dialogue in the entire series (minus bumblebee and maybe the rise of the beasts...) Like, it's one of the few times where characters seem to actually like each other and are kind, and as a new dad, the fart joke is ridiculously relatable and absolutely the kind of thing parents would say.
"layers upon layers of confusion and pain" is why we loved blackout on-screen appearances, but they really suffers as an actual, physical bot and boy, that toyline brawls really gives me flashbacks. and I agree on the whole!
Holy crap this guy's been sitting on my shelf for 6 years already?! Not for the first time, I'm grappling with the notion that Transformers that were "new" versions when I got back into collecting in '03 are now pushing 20 years themselves 😮
Blackout is kind of special to me because even before I got into Transformers, my brother had the OG Voyager. I'm really glad to have the Studio Series one now.
With those cardboard backs that came with SS86, Starscream's Coronation one, and the Grimlock one came in SUPER handy for some of the photo sessions I needed for the videos on my channel. 😁 But I wouldn't blame anyone for throwin' them in the bin, it was serendipity that I could put them to good use!
Thew if you want something nice to do with the SS backdrops try cutting off the base, the red bits on the sides, and the two dangly areas on the bottom. You're left with a solid rectangle of backdrop that you can use to decorate the back of your display shelves with.
Wish they reissued Blackout with Grindors improved hands. Had the perfect chance with the 15th annerversiry multipack, but its the original mold with the crappy hands
6:53 "I don't know if it's too big" believe it or not it's actually too small! blackout's helicopter mode is closer in scale to hot wheels than it is to barricade there that's not an exaggeration
I'm not a huge fan of Bayverse designs, but dear lord, Blackout and Bonecrusher have always been amazing in my book. They're the only MP Bayverse characters I shelled out the money for (and they're both just as incredible). Great review.
This is the toy i upgraded and replaced twice. From Blackout to Grindor to replace those Breville sandwich toaster hands to something workable. And then back to Blackout for the excellent MPM which fills in the belly of the heli. MPM Blackout is perfection and well worth tracking down.
One of the very few times I can say I've listened to the song that plays during the transformation! Many... many times. An Echo is the best thing an I refuse to stop playing it all the time forever.
I actually did keep my Studio Series 86 Scourge's cardboard backdrop, but only so I could give it to Legacy Galvatron. Galvie-boy now stands on it proudly to give him more height while Scourge and Cyclonus stand either side of him wishing they had more than one collective line in the 86 film (Kingdom Cyclonus is still possibly my favourite Transformers mold of all time though). Though my only other non-Core-class Studio Series figure is ROTB Rhinox, and his backdrop went straight in the bin. He's a great figure but bro did nothing in the movie, I'm not gonna pretend I got him for any reason other than the fact that Armada Rhinox (a repaint of BW Transmetal Rhinox iirc) was my first ever Transformers toy as a kid. Nostalgia, all SS Rhinox is missing is a little Armorhide minicon.
I both Do and Don't want to get to a stage in the fandom where "Not that one" becomes such a necessary disclaimer that a drinking game can be made from it
*The Gear Grindor himself!* If they ever made another Black-Out figure, or if he EVER appears again in a continuity, I kind of hope his design is Animated-Inspired. (I just love how monstrous and crustaceous that design looks. Also love his Walrus Mustache.)
In april of 2020. Covid hit my country. And i was bored and sad. Then i looked online for second hand stuff. And found a cheap still in box studio series blackout. I had not bought transformers figures in years (mostly thanks to stores not even getting them anymore). I had to get them. Because blackout made such am impression on little 7 year old me back in 2007. And then i got more. And more. And more. And now i have 4 full shelves bordering on a 5th! This figure got me back into collecting. And this video was wonderful.
After transforming him a few hundred times, I've managed to get all the panels to line up perfectly in the helicopter mode. It is possible, it's just incredibly precise
I do adore the '07 movie Decepticons, such awesome designs. Blackout is particularly bangin', so glad it got a Movie Masterpiece which fixes all the issue with the SS release like the flimsy legs (the joints get super weak really quick), non locking panels and open undercarriage.
I have the Grindor version of this mold and, yes, it does slightly improve on Blackout, and by that I mean they improved the hands. Side note: I had the 07 movie Voyager Blackout when I was younger which, along with Deluxe Bumblebee (76 Camero version), Swindle, Salvage, Stealth Bumblebee, and Voyager Megatron were my first Transformers toys. While I acknowledge that Movie 1 Voyager Blackout has it's problems, I still have a bit of nostalgia for it.
You mentioned Blazemaster, but the actual redeco of Blackout was Movie Evac (not that one)! Not only that, but he was made based on an unused idea for a Coast Guard helicopter appearing in the movie, so mmmmmaybe there’s a chance of him in the Concept Series, or perhaps a line of other “B-Listers Who Are Based On Movie Vehicles” like Longarm, Stockade, and Landmine?
As one who owns both BlackOut and Grindor I definitely recommend getting Grindor he's definitely got improvements over BlackOut in robot Mode with Arms that actually have possible hands and fingers.and posing him is awsome plus he's slight brighter and has a nice paint job
I don't go in on upgrade kits much, but I had to get the one that upgraded this guy (and Sentinel Prime) because those new hands, arm mounted guns and the new rotor weapon definitely do a lot to uplift an already amazing figure into god level status
Holy crow, I can't believe it's already Baypril again! It feels like only yesterday we were eagerly awaiting RotB. And now here we are eagerly awaiting TFOne. But we must never forget the dark days that came before. Please continue this tradition forever. It is a necessary and vital component of human culture.
Grindor has improved hands with wrist swivels, and comes with a little Ravage instead of Scorponok. Those are the only differences besides the paint scheme, but the hands that can rotate into a decent position make all the difference. Suddenly the arms are arms, and he can do more poses than "playing the piano" If you want a Blackout that is just an improved version of this, check out the MPM. It's insane but so cool
So glad you reviewed this figure thew and I love that you are doing more movie figures with baypril! Please do voyager class 07 megatron and throw in a cheeky look at the masterpiece one if you’ve got him. Still remember being 12 years old and having the biggest grin on my face when blackout transformed in the 07 movie knowing I was about to witness a masterpiece of a film
These movie leader toys are what 1st peaked my interest in modern transformers. They weren't my 1st buy when i finally gave in but 1st movie leader prime wss a early buy in my collecting past
The first movie is easily the best of the Bayformers films, altho DOTM comes close. There’s just something about Blackout’s entrance, the menacing nature of the entire first scene, and the ‘oh shit’ moment when he finally returns at the final battle and the army guys recognize him and overcome their trauma and finally take em out. But man that transform sequence in the city where he flips over and takes off…like Thew said, iconic.
Now I really want a studio series...Grindor! I didn't knew that figure existed and It seems to fix this guy's main problem: the absolutely hopeless hands.
Just imagine if we got some more vibrant repainta of this dude! I think it could look real good. If we ever get some new versions of Bayverse designs, I DESPERATELY want a new Terradive.
Grindor is just a repaint of Blackout with Ravage?! instead of Scorpinox for some reason. But they did give the paint job a bit of weathering and branded it with Marines, which I don't remember in the movie.
Now for the story comment, I have two of them in my collection plus the masterpiece movie one, and one is in robot mode and one is in helicopter mode, because one of them has broken tabs and some busted panels, so now I just have one in robot mode, (oh and I swapped the front refueling probe so that it doesn’t look broken on either one.
Another banger. Though I think to ease the stress of being "obligated" to do Baypril, you could more often Shorts instead of full videos. Because I know trying to get a 10+ minute worthy script you're happy with is already hard enough, in addition to having to edit the video.
I have my Grindor in hand while watching this and can say that the biggest difference between Blackout and Grindor is that Grindor comes with Ravage, not Scorpinok
this is definitely best movie transformer, simply by virtue of being completely original to the movie design and as a result having its own character. Blackout is blackout. I'm 200% over movieformers but i'm happy with this dude still.
I’ve been in this type of helicopter (or something close to it) and I looks maybe a bit to small, but I don’t really remember it’s probably about right
I was wondering why, by the default angle, his hands looked like bolt cutters; cuz, much as I like to forget those films, I remember those hands weren't .
absolutely loving the phrase "cyberverse not that one commander class not that one"
RID - not that one
War for cybertron not that one
Not now Energon!
V2 would absolutely be Movie Masterpiece Blackout. It's my all time favorite figure in my collection - all the pros from the Studio Series figure are amplified tenfold. And it's HUGE.
Oh dang
seconded on the huge part-that helicopter mode almost feels as big as autobot ark
Personally, I prefer small, complicated bots to the big toys... But sometime you just need a chonker.
For real. The SS figure feels as if they made the MPM first, then tried to downscale it for a mainline figure.
Was just about to comment and recommend movie masterpiece blackout 😂😅
“Check again and re-check”
“Did sir, a friend of mine was on that chopper.”
Still some of the coldest, coolest lines in all the TF movies.
Sets the tone and demonstrates how just cool as a cucumber Blackout is!
Really gives the appropriate shivers of essentially seeing your friend’s casket dug back out and being dragged home with almost inhuman pristine condition in the final hour of daylight
Seeing Blackout trasnform is my first ever memory of going to the theater, this dude really has a special place in my heart
It was the one part of the movie that lived up to the hype
I love Thew saying “Cyberverse, not that one, Legends, not that one.”
I remember nabbing this guy and Hun-Grrr the day I got disowned.
It was a real roller-coaster of a 24 hours.
The rotor cape became so iconic and awesome that Shard copied it as an option
0:42 facts. In this moment there were no Bay fans or G1 fans. We were all Transformers fans.
"Remember how The Thing started with the helicopter chasing that dog? Well, suppose it wasn't the _dog_ that was the Thing..."
Blackout, Barricade and the scorpion scenes are the most I remember outta all the Michael Bay transformers movies. Even as a kid I thought Blackout had a slick design one of my favorites for sure.
They are easily to best looking Con designs of the first movie. Everyone else just looks like a pile of trash or a Dorito.
*FUN FACT:* Blackout's SS toy was reused for the SS73 Grindor.
Of course, because why wouldn't it be?
Just a bit different
He already said it in the video...
Which makes no sense as Grindor is supposed to be way taller.
@@1065chris Hes not. Hes the same size as blackout for his entire screentime (standing about 30ft, about the same as megatron). They just made him much, much taller (50ft) for his death so prime climbing up him didnt look ridiculous
The sound design on Blackout’s first transformation lives rent free in my head to this day
As an owner of SS Grindor, it’s absolutely worth it! Fixes a lot of the problems I had with Blackou
You know what you should've done, you should've updated the baypril opening with new divide to signify this as a sequel to the first baypril
Hoarding Cardboard = Hoardboard
I bin all those too.
I think the only one I kept was the one that came with SS Kup. Because I want that squid bot as a toy.

and boy, that toyline brawls really gives me flashbacks. and I agree on the whole!

Blackout is kind of special to me because even before I got into Transformers, my brother had the OG Voyager. I'm really glad to have the Studio Series one now.
Blackouts helicopter mode was the retired “Pave Low” (Air force variant of the stallion series)

I missed out on him, but I got Grindor. So, good enough.
The MPM is freaking awesome too.
Wish they reissued Blackout with Grindors improved hands. Had the perfect chance with the 15th annerversiry multipack, but its the original mold with the crappy hands

I remember having a tan desert themed legends class Blackout. I loved that thing in elementary school as I would have been in 4th grade at the time.

"More panels than primetime Dave" took a moment to sink in, but hit like a hammer when it did. Well played, sir.
When they used this design again for Grindor, they made a lot of improvements with the arms. The Masterpiece figure exists now too.
Usually not a fan of movie figs but this guys has had my eye for a while

damn that "Jack Blackout" line is gonna stick in my head everytime I look at him from now on haha.
I do adore the '07 movie Decepticons, such awesome designs.
Blackout is particularly bangin', so glad it got a Movie Masterpiece which fixes all the issue with the SS release like the flimsy legs (the joints get super weak really quick), non locking panels and open undercarriage.
Still one of my favorite studio series figures, especially with the DNA Design upgrade kit. Both him and Ironhide are my top two figures
I think blackout has some of the most satisfying manual helicopter rotors ever
I have the Grindor version of this mold and, yes, it does slightly improve on Blackout, and by that I mean they improved the hands.

A whole Thew review of my favorite movie decepticon? On my birthday?
Hell yes.

don't forget that Bayverse Blackout inspired the Animated Blackout, down to his EMP foot stomp attack.
They did make a V2 in the form of the masterpeice Blackout. You gotta get ahold of the Masterpiece version Thew. its awesome.
So glad you reviewed this figure thew and I love that you are doing more movie figures with baypril! Please do voyager class 07 megatron and throw in a cheeky look at the masterpiece one if you’ve got him.
Still remember being 12 years old and having the biggest grin on my face when blackout transformed in the 07 movie knowing I was about to witness a masterpiece of a film
the starting scene with blackout was.....orgasmic!!!!
That opening scene in the 2007 movie was the best part of any Boyformer movie. SS Blackout is legit.
I think you found your new transformation music, easily my favourite part of the album
These movie leader toys are what 1st peaked my interest in modern transformers. They weren't my 1st buy when i finally gave in but 1st movie leader prime wss a early buy in my collecting past

As someone who has both Blackout and Grindor, I keep Blackout in helicopter mode and Grindor in Robot because Grindor has upgraded hands.
Now I really want a studio series...Grindor! I didn't knew that figure existed and It seems to fix this guy's main problem: the absolutely hopeless hands.
blackout/grindor is one of my favorite movieverse designs
The nickname “Jack Blackout” now makes me imagine Blackout and Grindor in a Decepticon version of Tenacious D.
Just imagine if we got some more vibrant repainta of this dude! I think it could look real good.
If we ever get some new versions of Bayverse designs, I DESPERATELY want a new Terradive.
Cool that you uploaded a video about my favorite movie Deception on my birthday!
The closest to a V2 we got in terms of Studio Series was Grindor but to be deadass honest, I only really need it for the Ravage hahaha
Ah 2018 studio series, when there was an entire line of licensed vehicles and no flood of G1. Good old days.
Uploaded on my birthday, and it's a character from the first film, released a year after I was born.
Damn.
The only differences for Grindor are the hands, some paint, and a cat instead of a scorp. You're not really missing out Thew
Yay, Baypril has launched!
Yeah on SS Grindor release; Hasbro fixed that awkward hand position.
Would anyone (or Thew 😊) have the name for these lovely sounds at 5:50?
I would appreciate that very much👍
Have him and his mate in studio and Blackout in MP. The MP is stunning.
The masterpiece of blackout is pure magic
Grindor is just a repaint of Blackout with Ravage?! instead of Scorpinox for some reason. But they did give the paint job a bit of weathering and branded it with Marines, which I don't remember in the movie.
What do you expect? That they will make a brand new mold for Grindor!?
Love me some Sunday morning Thew.
Psyched that I understood that Dave joke! I knew vacationing in Scotland had to be good for something...!
This is one of my all time favourite toys of my favourite movie designs so for me its a win win.
Seeing him in the first bay former movie was awesome. Great figure. I love it.i recommend.
I really do love the copter mode
Another banger. Though I think to ease the stress of being "obligated" to do Baypril, you could more often Shorts instead of full videos. Because I know trying to get a 10+ minute worthy script you're happy with is already hard enough, in addition to having to edit the video.
I have Masterpiece Blackout and it blows me away. Its the only Masterpiece I have so far, and boy is it a fantastic figure.
i had no idea blackout had a SS, ive only seen his masterpiece in stores
I have grindor, he’s ok for his size and he pretty much transforms like blackout with a small amount of changes
I have my Grindor in hand while watching this and can say that the biggest difference between Blackout and Grindor is that Grindor comes with Ravage, not Scorpinok
Really hoping the new helicopter bots do well because we're seriously lacking in full sized modern versions of those alt modes
I remember the Blackout from TFA.
This is the only non 86 studio series figure I own. It is definitely badass.
I have the original movie Voyager class Blackout!
Reminds me of a battered and fried Blooming Onion held upside down 😂
I have the OS OK with more paint, and fixed arms. for sure one of the best figures i own
Ready for the next one. Did they ever make a Studio Series Jetfire? Your voice would be great for that toy review. It has the movie Jetfire quality.
When I was a kid I never got blackout even though I wanted him a lot I got grindor then studio series came out and the same thing happened
I got the oversized KO with die cast legs.
Bro. It feels *good*.
this is definitely best movie transformer, simply by virtue of being completely original to the movie design and as a result having its own character. Blackout is blackout.
I'm 200% over movieformers but i'm happy with this dude still.
Also hell yeah An Echo is my favorite song from the album!🤘
I do kinda wish we’d get a proper core or deluxe Scorponok even if it has a naff robot mode
I’ve been in this type of helicopter (or something close to it) and I looks maybe a bit to small, but I don’t really remember it’s probably about right
I really want this figure! Blackout my favorite movie-verse character I love him!
3:00 HES SUPPOSED TO BE he and frenzy were both considered as soundwave but Michael bay wanted to kill both of them off so he didn’t (wild I know)
man I love this thew adams guy 🙏
Honestly Thew is the Jack Black of TH-cam
I was wondering why, by the default angle, his hands looked like bolt cutters; cuz, much as I like to forget those films, I remember those hands weren't .
