Considering this thing had to deal with the pop-out weapons gimmick, light-and-sound ackshun, the Bayverse-mandated vehicle mode accuracy, replicating the movies' hyper-greebly aesthetic, AND still being able to transform acceptably, the fact that it still kinda works and isn't just a plastic box with a GMC logo is quite impressive. Hats off to whatever overworked toy designer managed to bring it together.

I liked the attempt to merge the two designs, frankly because I think the Bay design is the overall superior look and is more fitting to Ironhide's gruff and tumble personality. Pickup also works better then Van. I feel the same about Ratchet, with him being an actual emergency vehicle and not a minivan with sirens glued on. I'm not anti-G1 or anything, but G1 Ironhide and Ratchet just have the most non-descript designs of the entire franchise; they had a windshield and that's it; because their rest of their alt mode buggered off to be an accessory. Which I think is why there is so much trouble trying to give them good looking toys.

In the voyager class figure from DOTM. All the promotional images (including the one in the video) show him with "long legs". If you own the figure, you'll notice that Ironhide has two knees which can fold backwards like a grasshopper to "shorten" his legs to a more movie accurate design. He doesn't stand very long in that pose unfortunately.

The reason I think 2007 Ironhide had a blue variant is that the design may suppose to be Trailbreaker (given that he had a Diaclone variant that's blue), but since the 2007 movie was originally had Arcee but then after replaced her with him, and the designwas inspired by Trailbreaker but with personality of Ironhide, we got Bayverse Ironhide.
Either way, we got this red one now.

@6:08 fun fact about that left arm cannon.
In ROTF Ironhide lost that gun during the air strike attack.
You see it falling off his left arm when he's stumbling out of the smoke holding his chest which was on fire as well.
To make up for it Hasbro/ Takara decided to try and give him a replacement even though in DOTM he doesn't even use either of his arm cannons.

The Bayformer movies was definitely my first exposure to Ironhide, so I've always been very intrigued in his design ethic. I understand why people are so attached to G1, but I kinda wanna see new designs that blend what's best of all the iterations, too. It'd be sweet to see a new take on Iron, where he's rocking that classic redvan look and rocking two massive arm-mounted cannons.

I have bad memories with this mould. I bought one at TFN for 40 quid because it was supposedly complete. It was only at the end of the night when I unboxed it for the first time that I realised that both the leg compartments were empty and one of the arm cannons was broken.

As much as I love the Studio Series (Voyager Ironhide being one of my personal favorites), I’m kinda disappointed we haven’t gotten any G1 inspired repaints yet. It would look goofy, but I would love a G1 ROTF Devastator.

It was also in Generations GDO that Hasbro get idea to take HFTD Leader Class Starscream mold and dip that in G1 Starscream deco.
Bummer though that planned Generations GDO Brawn get canned only to see day light years later in Japan.
It's bit sad that ROTF Voyager Starscream mold didn't get dipped in G1 deco.

Of the older Bayverse designs I've grown to appreciate the decepticons. Since they don't have the baggage you're supposed to like them, it's easier to dial in to the jagged monster piles they leaned into.

Always wanted the red one. Have the original black one, and the OS KO (which is awesome even if the plastic sucked). Like the Leader Class Optimus Primes from that first movie, this figure was just fun. Never really cared about movie accuracy, so they totally worked for me.

That's not the dlx Ironhide, that's regular release of the commander class Hide. That's just why we love ya Thew, just an ordinary guy providing entertaining content talking about plastic robots. Every now and then an oopsie makes it through editing providing an unexpected bit of added entertainment.

I got him and the matching G1 colored leader Starscream together on sale some years ago. The starscream has started to crack in places and like yours my ironhide is so loose in too many joints. But I still got a soft spot for this lumpy lug of plastic. The gimmicks are fun, the look is messy but fitting for the designs, do kinda wish he had the full sound lines but it's still fun, transformation is complex to be fun but not enough to be difficult....once you have it down anyway. Hoping the movie masterpiece one gets a recolor like this one.

I had a theory back when this was released, that it was an holdover originally designed for the 2010 Transformers/Reveal the Shield line, because it had nothing to do with the line-wide Mech Tech "articulated weapons" gimmick in Dark of the Moon. It kind of matches what they were going for with the electronic leader class Bumblebee and Starscream from those lines more so than any of the leaders from Dark of the Moon.

Go look at the Ironhide from Transformers Universe. Prefect blend of the G1 and Bayverse designs while adding the sleekness of Prime. Best Ironhide design imo.
