    You mentioned lap dogs, from the sounds of it more like a well trained German shepherd. It's big and you don't want to piss it off, but it can be a great companion. The ftr sounds like an American bull terrier always posturing and looking for a fight.

    After owning my FTR for a year now, I’ve definitely learned a lot about it, but I love it more now than I did the day I got it. Every time I see it in my garage I smile. It is truly a beautiful machine and the exhaust note is *Chef’s kiss* magnificent.
    It’s definitely aggressive. Like super aggressive, but probably 20% of the time I feel like it’ll allow me to ride chill and just cruise. Maybe 10% of the time. Road trips are super fun though because you pass everybody with ease. If I had an officey type job it would definitely be an everyday rider for me, but I’m crazy like that.
    Change the wheels (I went with Shinko 705s), get the right exhaust (S&S is amazing but not overly aggressive like the Bassani), and enjoy the heck outta life.
    P.S. I don’t have a dune buggy, but I am a perpetual toddler.

    Love this comparison.. i have both these bikes. No looking to sell the ftr after 6000kms. The bmw is the keeper for me- but i am sure i will miss the ftr bcs it is such a fun bike despite its mid corner handling- it does force you to pay attention. Looking at speed triple 1200 or s1000r as the ftr replacement...

  • @richbrett7268
    @richbrett7268 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Just finished your episode- yeah you nailed it with everything you said. The trail rider avon tyres help alot with grip but the feel mid corner on those 18" is still there like your riding the bike through the back wheel - whereas the front never enters your mind its rock solid. The bmw is planted stable and those bigh transver pots are like a keal on a yacht stabilizing the bike through the lean. The bmw scrambler continues to grow on me like a good friend. But your so right even with or even more so with dunlop dt3-r crap tyres its mental to ride counter steering out of corners- and the the bike makes total sense. But who can ride like that and stay alive!? Not at my skill level. My 2 cents worth.

    I am looking at a fun, not something that everyone has type of a bike that is fun to ride. I had an eye on the r9t and the scrambler from the Italians... had a look at the Brits too... but the gringo turbocharged donkey got my attention with it's unique looks and rebellious character... I live and ride in Germany, so bmws are all over, the twin shocks on the triumph are too old school for me, while the for, just stands apart with that welded frame and the shock on the side... The engine is also a looker, I am left to go for a test ride some time, we shall see how the winter goes about to give the mad gringo a ride... I like the spokes on the rally, but I am not sure if the riding quality is that enjoyable with the wheel sizes of the rally... If the ftr rides somewhere between a super motard and a naked, I will get it, I am not interested in a cruiser. I hope the ride quality will not disappoint... Currently I ride the Superblackbird, I break the law all the time, riding, driving... the XX is too civilised, too quiet, I need a bike to be in tune with my old grouch personality...

    The story of Napoleon and Josephine is very like a Shakespearean tragedy. I doubt he was an asshole all the time. He seemed more like an incel that simped after the first girl who fucked him (Josephine). She would cheat on him and hardly hid it when he was low ranking. By the time he became Emperor he had learned to be Alpha sexually as well. She was left simping in the end as he eventually married a young princess for political reasons. (and for an heir as Josephine was barren, iirc) Napoleon riding a R9T? Believable choice.

    Spite could like a ride on the R1250R (1250 boxer engine naked with most modern tech) and way more torque and power from down below than the R9T, also better handling and long distance ride (Bmw side cases and top cases options).

    Had an R9T UGS, loved the bike but the suspensions were quite budget (and front forks were the same as the R9T Racer, which didn't make much sense on a "scrambler"). Front felt stiffer than it needed to, and the rear was so soft it felt harsh when you hit bigger bumps. If BMW put proper suspensions on them, I'd consider buying another one. I love those engines and the torque, aside from the fact that brand new it burned 1L/10000km of oil...and BMW said anything under 4L/10000km is considered "normal".

    Y’know Spite I’m not sure if I can get behind you with this whole “ the Indian is just not built for corners” bit you’ve got going here. I’ve got 25,000 kilometres on one and plenty of tight mountain roads have passed underneath the bike. The machine holds a line nicely on the side of the tyre and there’s grip for days, a ton of clearance and brakes and suspension more than capable of aggressive riding. What’s more is the wheel sizes and suspension travel make the bike a handy off roader too. I appreciate you may not be the most capable rider out there but don’t dump it all on the bike.

    45,000 km on my FTR now and I've never had more fun on a bike, I never want to say goodbye. Spite gets it, it's an absolutely brick headed, blood thirsty, rampaging murderer of a motorcycle and wants nothing more than to kill every single vehicle it meets. I wouldn't have it any other way.
    For real though, do yourselves and whoever wins the bike a favor, throw some proper tires on it. You've ridden the other models with the same chassis and suspension, you know that it handles fine with a good pair of shoes, you're just teasing yourselves in the meantime.

      I've had a 2015 model since '16 and they're super easy to maintain. Expensive to buy? Sure, but you'll keep it forever.

      I was looking on Twisted Roads in the Austin listings and I saw your BMW and your 701 on there and next thing I knew I was contemplating a vacation to Austin, Texas just so I could rent those bikes for a week or so. Lol. Honestly s vacation doing that makes more sense to me than going and sitting on a beach.
