I got two quotes this week Tampa/Clearwater area of Florida 100 to 200 amp outdoor box, meter, and riser, grounding rods $9,000.00 I told them take a hike.
Wonderful presentation, learned a lot thank you. One thing I would pitch as well that I didn't hear you mention, is refreshing smoke detectors too. They turn yellow quickly. It also helps make the house look cleaner, newer. Thanks again!
Plus, most manufacturers like Kiddie and BRK provide only 10 years shelf life on their smoke detectors and co/ smoke combo's. The wireless/ bluetooth technology really upgrades the entire smoke detector system when implemented.
Near Atlanta you’d just add an extra $1K to all his numbers and you’d be close, a lil low, but still close. Materials are expensive. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼
I’m working on a commercial project and received an estimate for $67k. Here’s a description of what I’m told needs to be done. The existing power is 200 amps, Main Disconnect, Install and Change to 800 amps 3 phase, Main Disconnect, Install 2 electric box or panel for inside each 400 amps, Install pipe Emt 3 1/2 400 ft 800 ft wire Wire THHN #500 kcmil. I’m wondering what is driving the price up so much. Assume the wire, but I have no idea.
I was just quoted 8k from TE in atlanta ga for just a panel swap out ONLY.This included 50 slot breakers 200 amp. It also included 30 arc fault breakers. Even if you change that to normal breakers, that's still insanely high. I wish you were in my area
Depends on the code cycle in your area because some states are on the 2008 and 2017 books. Does your state require AFCI protection throughout the home. In the 2020 cycle states that don't require an outside service disconnect will require some service disconnect means.
Great video. I honestly don’t know where some customers go for comparable quotes sometimes. Here in LI,NY especially now you can quote a job thoughtfully and you’ll hear someone did the job for half the price either off the record or covered by someone’s license. Drives me crazy but at least I can see our price lined up. A little higher because labor costs more in NY but still in line.
In my case, a 100 to 200 amp upgrade including a 50 foot power line going to the telephone pole is $3200 for an electrician to do it or $4500 for the solar company's electricians to do it.
Currently panel changes do not require arc fault protection unless it's existing, or unless you move the panel six feet or more, or modify or extend the brand circuit
@@ElectricalCodeCoach I'm still trying to figure out what is being run where. Have a crawl space to go into to find another box They wired the garage a bit weirdly and only fixed some stuff in the house when they remodeled. So my main box is a breaker panel. I have most of the wires tracked down in the garage except 1. I'm the garage itself there are 3 different fuse boxes. 1 with 2 fuses that the main lead runs into 1 with 6 fuses that most are run from (has a red and white wire running into it from the main box) 1 with 4 fuses in it( has the black wire from the main fuse running into it) Then some random black wire going into the ground next to the main flat 10/3 ground wire that I'm still trying to track down lol
I have an underground service question for you it's in knoxville Tennessee and I was gonna see if you could help me out do underground services on new construction in knoxville but this is a side job and I'm wanting to know how to go about doing this one?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your videos and for sharing your knowledge in the field.
Great question, every single power company is different in how they want it done I would call the power company directly. We have like seven different power companies over here in East Tennessee and every one of them does it differently
@@ElectricalCodeCoach yeah man I know I deal with lcub and cub alot but this service is with the kub utility I believe it will have to be in conduit all the way up within 2' of transformer and have a weatherhead and all but I will contact them and make sure and thank you for your help man
Do you happen to know what amperage those old pushmatic service center panels run? Mine looks like a double pole. I'm trying to find out what amperage it is and what kind of panel box I would need to replace it.
I’m curious if your pricing considered replacing all breakers w equivalent or reusing when replacing the panel. Also if your pricing was with all the AFCI and Gfci breakers required when new circuits are installed or extended more than 6ft. Or is this pricing with all standard breakers.
Can upgrades from 100 to 200 be done without having to rewire the house with a ground or will they require you to have everything grounded? That would be the extra cost I'm afraid of. I'm not sure if that's a local requirement some places. I've been seeing conflicting comments around videos like these. Thanks.
As far as the service/panel change goes there's nothing in the NEC that requires anything to be rewired outside of the conductors that feed the service or the feeder. But definitely check your local ordinances and work with your local electrical inspector, thank you for the comment!
Hi coach once agin George from cali What ur advice on section 210.12(D) Is there a certain amount of ft the new panel needs to meet before this code take affect or what ur advice on this Thanks ,,
We're required to add them in a house you're doing any inspected work in. If the home already has them then you don't need to mess with it, this is mostly for older houses with battery-only or no smokes at all.
@@ElectricalCodeCoach-Replace meter base 100 amp $1144.25 -riser for 100-124 amp service $1303.64 -surge protection for whole home $737 -100 amp main breaker $1783.64 -ground electrical service $490.09 -permit $296.57
I'm just about to make updated videos for these prices, things have changed dramatically in the last 18 months Depending on how tough the scenario is that may not be outrageous. Now for a regular single panel not having to touch the outside at all I'm having to charge $2,500 plus parts. Our area is historically lower though many areas were charging that price 10 15 years ago

In central FL orlando area, 200amp flush mounted sub-panels are around 2000-3000 with permit.
would you be interested in doing a 200A replacement in north Tampa?

Yes this is an old video, these prices don't work anymore!!
If you're going to a qo square d and arc fault /GFCI add about 2k
Note that with this setup you're good for 20 years and can rest knowing you are safe
Except they recalled 1.4 million of them because of problem with neutral bar.
Great video, I'm trying to get my service panel, meter and riser changed here in the Bay Area and I'm getting quotes around 8k!
Shew, I believe it right now
In the Bay Area too, update 200amp about 6k two years ago
Thank you for the great information!
Let's go!
In the Bay Area, California, it cost about 10k and plus with permit, at minimum
I believe it brother it's going way up in our area
Thank you so much for sharing this information.
I live in Canada. A full overhead service upgrade 100-200A costs $3500-5000

I wish that were an outrageous price, things have really changed, if it's a good reputable company I would consider calling them back

I'll be honest with you these prices are not relevant at the moment material is absolutely through the roof
I think with $1200 you only can buy panel and all arc fault breakers
Currently panel changes do not require arc fault protection unless it's existing, or unless you move the panel six feet or more, or modify or extend the brand circuit
@@ElectricalCodeCoach nice 👍 I was unaware of this… assumed once it’s touched or compromised needed to be up to code
Inside and out is that rewiring house ?
How much to convert a fuse panel to breaker panel in a separate garage.
