NuCamp Tag Upgrades (Mostly planned)

  • Hey Guys,
    In this video I talk primarily about planned upgrades for the NuCamp Tag (although I do talk a little about one current upgrade for entertainment :)). I should caveat that I have no complaints about NuCamp, their construction choices, etc. I just intend to do a little more than what they designed the trailer for so some of my choices will be a little more extreme ;). Enjoy!

    Excellent discussion of things to consider before purchasing this NuCamp. Had never seen the ZTE Spro 2. Thanks.

    love your videos. i am really thinking of getting one of these campers. torn between the regular and the XL. seems to be just a foot of difference and an added microwave. not sure if its worth the extra cost. Also, ive had a Spro for over a year now and i LOVE it. ive taken it out camping and have watched movies through the USB slot and i just bluetooth it to my jeep speakers! keep up with these videos!!

      Honestly I don't think you can go wrong either way. There are times when I wish I had a microwave. The space doesn't bother me. The reason I chose the 5 wide is because I plan on taking in some tight spaces and wanted to be sure it would fit. I love the SPRO and glad others are using for similar purposes

      I have the xl and to be honest I don`t think I would have bought one without it being an XL. that 1 foot your talking about does make a difference inside and you have more storage under the sink in the back. Now depending on what your planning on how to use it makes it wether you need the xl or regular. Good luck with whichever one you pick.
      Also there is only around 100 lb diffence in the two.

    I looked at one of these about a week ago. There are no braces under the whole middle of the floor. Just around the perimeter. I was thinking, "WTF???" I lost interest quickly. Didn't think about getting something added professionally. Just went home and looked at my welder for a few minutes and then wrote it off entirely.

    Awesome stuff. Did you ever do the suspension and reinforcement of the frame? I’m also in CO and looking to make the tag a bit more capable.

      No. As it turns out the hitch is pretty much all I needed

    Projector - interesting idea - but that 200lumen , I am surprised it is that bright with the light on, i love the auto focus. Your going to need a good data package on your phone!
    Looking forward to seeing your upgrades
    Cheers

    Did you end up switching out your hitch connection? If you did what did you go with? Did you use a shop in Colorado Springs? I recently purchased a 2016 T@G and am finding I’m boon docking more than I expected and wondering...loving it! Thanks!

      Yup. Went with Lock n roll just cause it was easier find (bought mine on eTrailer). I used a local welding shop to have them put mine on. Hope this helps

    Considering buying one of these guys, but now I’m a little concerned with the frame, but I couldn’t find any additional info on the trailer frames. What are your thoughts are you still going to reinforce the frame? Great videos by the way, I’ve learned so much about these trailers from them!

    • @joshuastjohn79
      @joshuastjohn79  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I still plan to reinforce the trailer itself. Honestly despite my few concerns I absolutely love this trailer

    • @joshuastjohn79
      @joshuastjohn79  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I plan to reinforce the trailer itself but don't wouldn't know where to begin reinforcing the walls themselves. Honestly I think reinforcing the trailer the shell sits on will most likely be enough but I'll keep posting my findings as I continue taking this trailer more and more off road.

      Josh St John Thanks for the response, sorry about that I was referring to the reinforcing of the trailer. I am actually a proud owner of the Tag boondock now. After probably hundreds of hours of research. I’ll definitely be purchasing some Allen wrenches for the rear galley door, and have purchased a couple of 10 by 10 canopy’s that can raise above 7 ft clearance for additional shade here in California.

      Josh St John, one thing I did do was figure out how to play Netflix from my phone on to the tv, I just unplugged the hd DVD player from the tv and plugged in my on hdmi cable and purchased an iPhone adapter for tv. The only problem with that is it will only use the speakers on the TV so all you do is take a usb cable and plug it into the side of the tv and DVD player and it will go right on to the ceiling speakers. I’ll probably just purchase a splitter for the dvd and I phone. But seriously who uses dvd anymore.

    • @joshuastjohn79
      @joshuastjohn79  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not reinforced it yet and so far have had no issues

      @@joshuastjohn79 too bad but I guess that's a bit too much to ask from a little box, pretty awesome thought. FYI your vids have inspired me to add the tag outback to my shortlist, I'm going to look at one today. Does $13,500 usd for a brand new 2018 model year sound too high?

    Great video! I love the projector screen setup. Is that a shower curtain rod holding up the screen? The wife must have came home at the end of the video... I heard the garage door

      The projector concept is awesome. I can see using that tailgating. I can pop that up and blow up my buddy with his motorhome with the outside entertainment center.

      Tull Wigley one thing I didn't mention was the brightness is NOT good in daylight. As long as the sun is setting you should be fine. Just be aware ;)

    Would you buy a Nucamp trailer again if you had to do it all over again?

    • @joshuastjohn79
      @joshuastjohn79  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes but it would be close between the tear drop and going 100% overland. In the end the hard sided walls and ability to carry more gear wins out.

      @@joshuastjohn79 that is great to know! I'm picking up a 2020 T@G XL Boondock in a few weeks and have been looking at your page to get some ideas. Did you ever add the support braces across the trailer or was that not needed as well?

    • @joshuastjohn79
      @joshuastjohn79  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rdevenger Nope I haven't needed that either. I think alot of it is if you go slow (i.e. Rock Crawling) you don't really need the additions. Now I will say I think if you end up at higher speeds in the desert / dunes the Tag would benefit alot more from those uogrades
