Interesting, keep posting. Thinking of getting my own boondock.

Josh, we have a regular tab and we had the same problem with the latch, fortunately only one side came off. Found something similar at an rev store, but I had to shorten it to fit. I now have a small hack saw and new set of Allen keys in my tool box. The torsion axle makes the ride smoother on the open road. For your tab, the torsion axle is pitched, 10, 25 or 45 degrees down. Take the wheel off and you will see this. This raises the axle above the centerline of the wheels and gives the additional ground clearance along the axle. Placing the wheel on the block just raises the side of either type of axle. These things will bounce if you go over a rock or curb too fast. This happened to us when I pulled off on a rough shoulder too fast. I looked in the rear view mirror and had that side off the tab 6 or 8 inches in the air.
Nice video. Have safe travels. The parks in Utah are beautiful, we are heading back there this summer.

Josh, what you are expected of the suspension is not realistic. Even with an axle less. The chock will be absorbed when you it a bump, but will regain a standard height right after. It ia not a vehicule with 4 wheels at each corner that all opposed different forces. It is a basic triangle with a foward central pivot point. If you want to be able to adjust suspension when static at a camp site, you will need an independant air suspension with seperate valves controls.
And to go with axle less, you will nee a cross member on the center of the T@G frame to replace the cross member that is made by the suspension tube bolted to the frame.
I also have an outback T@G and the suspension at 2200 lbs cap is to stiff for fast off road and washbord driving. I will be doing a airbag convesion in my futur for it.

Lucky J very interested. how do you do an airbag conversion on a torsion axle?

Nice video...you may want to look at “Chuquicamata” open copper pit in Chile (largest open pit in the world)... still going on for over 100 years...difficult to digest but it’s there!

That trip through the desert sounds awesome. Would love to see footage of that and how the tear drop does. Cheers!

    Hi John
Thanks for the videos. I’m in the market for a off-road teardrop trailer. Trying to decide between the T@G, Meaner Bean, Timberleaf, Colorado, or SoCal. I like your T@G for the standard equipment but I’m with you as for the hitch, suspension, and over lack of support beams on the frame. I know you’ve upgraded the hitch but what are your thoughts with the suspension and frame? You did mention you might upgrade to timbren axel less and add support beams. Are you still planning on those upgrade or is there no need. I do plan on doing some rough off-road stuff with the trailer!

The T@G is good for light off roading and I have been quite impressed by what what something like this can do from the factory. If I was going to do more I would definitely upgrade to the Tiberen Axless Suspension. The frame of the trailer seems to be holding up well but the interior is not. The window shades, A/C, etc are shaking apart. They were not designed to hold up to such extreme conditions. Also the tongue jack is an issue. I'm on my 3rd tongue jack because it keeps getting bent when I take it on moderate 4x4 jeep trails.
The Timberleaf or Socal and Organ Tera Drop Tear are probably better options for more extreme 4x4 trails. I would have seriously considered these but ultimately they were too heavy for my Jeep to tow.
      Good luck

Some seriously cool country there. I wouldn't mess with that suspension. It's perfectly good for what it was designed for. Recommend saving up for one of the true off road trailers once you beat this one up enough, but they are so seriously pricey that would count most of us out. Definitely not a rock crawler lol. Do you have a modified cold air intake on the Jeep, sounds like some good horsies under the hood. The TAG looks mighty fine hooked up to the Jeep, very compatible.

Yeah so far I'm actually impressed. The torsion suspension has done far better than what I thought. Wont be switching quite yet

great video Jason, thank you for sharing, your honesty is refreshing. We are about to pull the trigger on a tag outback soon and want to see/hear the "non salesman" critique lol.... have you been out in any rain? was there any leaks at all?

Hey Josh what's the ground clearance from ground to axel & ground to frame? Having a hard time finding this out

  • @onefastcyclist
    @onefastcyclist 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

good demonstration of the torsion suspension ! Though articulation may be limited, it should absorb enough shock to prevent frame fatigue off road - guess time will tell. We're going to place a 320 Boondock behind our XJ with this hitch: locknroll.com/

they sell those latches right at the hardware store we have ace hardware around hear you can find them there... just garage door hardware.. there is nothing wrong with that axle bro rather if you want independent axle you need to figure out how much you trader weighs full.. 3500 lbs is too much it will bounce so much you will snap the bolts right off that hold the axle or even worse the hole body... torsion axles are the best on the market but yours are a hole axle i would cut the axle in half weld a cap on the end and then slip a big tube over the axle with the cap and weld that, for strength .. torsion axle are good for high way the best as a matter of fact but if you are going to be off roading i would watch out for twisting of the axle... side deflection when you go into a hole is gone break something... these little campers are really not made for hill climbing and mud bogging... should be fine over a dirt road but as soon as you hit trench holes and rocks watch out...but that is just my opion,,.. there are way better teardrop trailer models for off roading...oregon teardrops, socalteardrops, this little guy is a mass produced teardrop and look real nice but in the long run are going to fall apart on the trail... you need a metal deflection shield for the bottom and all the goodies... i really bought you will find one with independent suspension but i may be wrong.. it is really the best set up for off roading is all... well in my opion like everything else... this id the first www.socalteardrops.com/page.php?p=34&t=Off-Road%20Trailers #2 www.oregontrailer.net/terradrop.html
