I purchased the ABS with rubber over mold handle not a bad little handline reel I first put on some 6 lb test it casted ok had a couple casting ridges took line off used 400 grit sandpaper smoothed it out put 6 lb on it wow what a caster all most a far as one of my spinning reels still can't do as far as the baitcasters but it's set up for bluegill fishing anytime I find a creek, drainage ditch, or pond if I'm on a exercise walk . Nice little rig for $10 bucks yes I recommend it fully I fish almost every day with rod & reel.
G'Day from Australia, I recall watching your handline fishing video called "Fishing with my Survival Kit" quite a few years ago. I enjoyed it very much and it lead me to a period of uncomplicated handline fishing before I went back to fly fishing. I think I might need to de-gear again and have a spell of handline fishing. I like those handcasters that you are producing and would like to buy one. Thanks for posting your videos and Cheers, Steve.
ha ha. loved this video. those are so freaking cool. I'm planning on going fishing on my backpacking trip in a wilderness area in the Rockies in about 8 days
How would it be if you wound your line onto a good quality toilet roll holder and mounted the toilet roll holder into that handle thingy? Wouldn't you get a better cast?
It would work, just be bulky. I used to just use a short stick I cut from a tree wrapped with line. I carved it into a little club and would use it to dispatch big fish after pulling them in.
I prefer 10lb mono. You'd be surprised by the size of fish you can catch if properly played. I'm working on a slightly larger setup that holds 20lb comfortably for ocean fishing.
@@MerkWares ive been using 6lb flourocarbon on my kabar backpack caster. I was thinking of upgrading to a synthetic one of these for the retrieval rate and flatter packing. Guess I'm gonna have to pull the trigger.
Not sure yet about the floating. Still working on manufacturing options. Yes, Troy is using a Streamlines. I used to sell them for Jack. He's passed the torch to me so to speak and is no longer making them. I used to modify his streamlines for my purposes so I've included those changes in the redesign.
WE just funded last night. So production on the molds is started. Probably looking at 6-8 weeks for deliver. Get on the kickstarter if you can to make sure you are part of the first batch.
Hey Mikhail, How's it going my friend? I couldn't find the hand-lines on the site. If ya send me an invoice, I will def. get one. You know me, I want every piece of Merkware I can!! Hope all is well with the family and hope the baby is doing awesome!!! Talk to ya soon my friend. Scott
I'm loving my circle hooks, they just take a bit of learning. It is still hard for me not to set the hook. The trout are so small and light that I getting gut hooks because I'm not sure there is fish on the line.
We have a lot of pan fish where I frequent, I got tired of cutting the line when they swallow the hook. I got tired and tried longer shanks, same result. I discovered the circle hooks and they're the greatest.
I mainly use nightcrawlers cut in thirds but I'm not really going for anything bigger than sunnies or bluegills. I don't keep anything I catch unless I'm fishing at the highest point in the area. I really just do it for the fun of it. If I am good to the fish, they are good to me. Check your FB inbox later today please, I ordered a handline set but your site was acting screwy--- I'll explain more, but for now I didn't want to ping you at 5 am and wake you up inadvertently. Thanks Mikhail.
no worries, heading out on a hunt right now. I'll be around this afternoon. email me at mikhail at emberlit dot com. thanks for the heads up on the page. Eager to hear more.

Definetly going to make one of those. Is there any special tackle i have to have or just line, a float and a hook?

nice video. I had never been very convinced about handling fishing. but you may change my mind.
What's the clear bobber that are you using?
it's called an adjust 'a bobber. Made by Rainbow plastics. I can fill it with water and use it to cast. I really like casting bobbers like this.
Thank you !!!
Would the polymer ones float in the water? And is Troy using a Streamlines casting handline?

Can this be used in sea
Yes, I use 10lb mono, but you can use up to about 20lb mono line comfortably. Of course, there are much larger fish in the sea.
that thing is pretty dammmmmmmn cool.....
I want to buy one
looks pretty cool I would be down to get one of the polymer ones if I can find a distributor in Australia
That would be awesome.... I'm going to try and do a kickstarter project to fund the molds for the polymer.
When are the plastic reels coming

Great! Can we get them in India?
Yes, check my website cabuyafishing.com
What is the wood for cabuya. ?
The ones available now on the website are made from laminated bamboo and laminated maple.
@@MerkWares thank.
what king of line are you using.
Just 10lb mono. Braided lines do not cast well from handlines that I've found.
Can somebody please tell me what brand type bobber he's using can't find it...
Hi Jake, it is an "adjust a bubble" by rainbow plastics, now called double X tackle.
Thanks for response man I'm loving my hand line Fisher and I just ordered a titanium fire ant stove with my discount.. great products.
I just bought one of these at the sportsman's xpo there awsome
Thank you so much. Let me know how it works out for you. I'm going to launch my kickstarter campaign to fund the molded handlines in a week.
GREAT video, as always. Circle hooks. No more swallows ;)

any advice on how you like to bait them?
