I love this video Larry, you are really interesting as always and i'm going to take ispiration from this video for my future listening. Here's some of my favorite and less favorite artists from the 80's:
Talking heads: I love them and remain In Light is amazing they were so far ahead of their times. The album is made with music loops, first time in history i guess.
U2: Amazing band in the 80's, I love all of their albums and my favorite is probably the Joshua Tree, I love the sound of that album and the lyrics are awesome. Favorite song is Bullet the Blue Sky and also With or Without you gives me goose bumps.
Def Leppard: Another amazing band. I love all of their 80's albums but i lost interest in their music from the 90's because they became too pop and less inspired.
Joy Division: Love the band, Closer is one of my all time favorite albums.
Michael Jackson: I don't like all of his stuff, but i'm a big fan of his 80's albums and Thriller is amazing, love all the songs on that one. Beat it is my favorite.
Prince: I never really got into his stuff, i've tried to listen some of his albums but always lost interest pretty quickly. But i admit he's damn talented.
Metallica: They are one of my favorite bands and in the 80's they were amazing they reformed heavy metal. Master Of Puppets is one of my favorite albums of all time.
Xtc: Great band Larry! I love the album Drums and Wires and some of their other stuff and i need more cds by them for sure.
The Cure: I like their early stuff, up until Pornography but i don't like their 80's stuff is too pop and boring (just my opinion).
The Smiths: Great musicians but i'm not a big fan of Morrisey as a singer.
Lou Reed: One of my favorite artists of all time and i love his 80's albums: The Blue Mask is amazing and Growing up in public (Excellent musicianship on this one).
Bruce Springsteen: In my top 5 artists of all time i just love his entire career, all the albums. He is one of the greatest songwriter of them all in my humble opinion. I love The River, Born in the U.S.A, Nebraska...all of his stuff from the 80's.
Dire Straits: Great band and Mark Knopfler is one of the greatest guitarists, very underrated, his style is unique.
Queen: One of the most overrated bands of all time (in my opinion). I hate most of their songs in the 80's like Radio gaga and i'm definetly not a fan.
Motorhead: Love the album Ace Of Spades and most of their stuff.
Pink Floyd: Amazing in the 70's but not so much in the 80's.
Phil Collins: I bought the album Face Value and is very good. He is a great artist.
David Bowie: I don't have cds by him but i love some songs like China Girl.
The Cars: I love the album Heartbeat City. Very good.
Cyndi Lauper: She's so unusual is a great album.
Madonna: I really like some of her early songs but never bought any albums.
Dokken: I love this band and their guitarist George Lynch is incredibly talented.
Tom Petty: Full Moon Fever is an amazing album. Running down a dream is one of my favorite songs and the guitar solo near the end is amazing.
Frank Zappa: One of the greatest artist. I love his album You are what you is, what do you think of that album Larry?
Genesis: I love them even in the 80's.
Hall & Oates: Amazing pop songs by this duo. They were really talented.
The Clash: One of my favorite bands and Sandinista! is amazing, great variety of music.
The Police: I love their debut album but after that i lost interest.
Van Halen: I don't like their songs but Eddie Van Halen is a great guitarist.
Rush: I'm not a big fan of their 80's material but in the 70's they were great.
R.E.M: One of the greatest bands, i love their songs and lyrics. Murmur is an amazing album and really important for the future of alternative rock.
Bon Jovi: They are actually not that bad, but i don't own any of their cds.
Megadeth: Amazing band in the 80's but i lost interest in the 90's.
Guns n' Roses: Very overrated band in my opinion.

80's: Lots of stuff (and lots I still listen to): The Police, R.E.M., U2, The Smiths, The Go-Go's, The Bangles (first album is great) Madness, Husker Du, The Pogues, The Replacements, The Pixies, Peter Gabriel, Robyn Hitchcock, I'll second XTC, The Cure (the poppy songs)...Those are the big ones. As one-hit wonders go, I loved "Life in a Northern Town" by Dream Academy and "Birds Fly" by Icicle Works, "Pass the Dutchie." and who didn't love "Come On Eilleen?" In 1989, the Stone Roses' debut came out. One of my favorite albums ever. Oh, and I had The Beastie Boys first album on vinyl.... Some people think the 80's is a genre. It isn't. It's simply a time period in which a wide variety of music came out that was both banal and interesting, and frequently entertaining.

    Love the video Larry!
I like some 80's music but, of course, there is quite a lot that I don't particularly care for.
U2, The Smiths, The Cars, The Cure, The Talking Heads, Depeche Mode, New Order, OMD: I like some songs by these artists but I've never really gotten into them.
Prince: I love Prince's music, especially the album 'Sign o' the Times'
Queen: One of my favourite bands, love their 80's stuff
Fleetwood Mac & Stevie Nicks: Two of my favourite artists, I love Nicks' solo career, especially 'Bella Donna'
Elvis Costello: One of my favourite artists and I love his 80's stuff (and his work with McCartney)
Paul McCartney: Don't mind his 80's stuff (but I love Flowers in the Dirt)
Don Henley: Not a big fan but I love the album 'The End of the Innocence'
Bruce Springsteen: One of my favourite artists and I love his 80's stuff (but I prefer his 70's catalogue)
Bon Jovi: I know they're very commercial and cheesy but I enjoy their music (mainly the 90's stuff though)
Paul Simon: I love Graceland but haven't listened to the other 80's stuff
Tears for Fears: I love their music and 'The Seeds of Love' is one of my favourite albums
    INXS: Really enjoy their music
Aerosmith: I prefer the 70's stuff but I still enjoy the 80's stuff
Guns n' Roses, Def Leppard, AC/DC & Van Halen: I really enjoy some stuff but I don't care for a lot of it
XTC, Dire Straits, the Clash, R.E.M.: I love what I've heard and I need to listen to more of their stuff
The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Yes: Not a big fan of their 80's catalogue but I love their previous stuff
Billy Joel: One of my favourite artists but I prefer his 70's stuff
Michael Jackson: I like some of the hits but I'm not a big fan
Madonna: I've never been a fan
Of course, there are many more great 80's artists. I love Lenny Kravitz (although he only released one album in the 80's) and the Stone Roses. The Stone Roses' debut is probably in my top 10 albums of all time.
Anyway, great idea Larry, it was a very interesting video (as always) and I'll look forward to the next.

First here are some Honorable Mentions:
Cindy Lauper, Madonna, (Love ABBA, QUEEN, although I see them more as 70's artists) Culture Club, Huey Lewis and the News, Bruce Springsteen, Motley Crue, Guns n' Roses, Janet Jackson, and MC Hammer (I was an underground fan before he hit it big in the 90's)
And now for my top 10:
    10. Beastie Boys
    9. Lionel Richie
    8. Men At Work
    7. Millie Vanillie
    6. Hall n’ Oats
    5. INXS
    4. Phil Collins
    3. George Michael
    2. Prince
    1. Michael Jackson
(Now this is based on how much I liked them at the time, looking back, I would probably remove Millie Vanillie from the list and maybe the Beastie Boys and replace them with Motley Crue and Culture Club)

That part at 9:00 made me laugh very hard. I wasn't around in the 80's, but I do enjoy some of the music. Duran Duran I like, especially Save A Prayer, which is my favorite song of theirs. I enjoy Tears For Fears. My favorite band/group from the 80's was a group from Spain, though. They were called Mecano, and I love some of their songs. I also like REM. I like Depeche Mode. Peter Gabriel I really like. Phil Collins I also like. Frank Zappa, obviously. U2 I love. I haven't really listened to Sparks that much.
That's all I can think of for now. I'm sure I missed some other bands that I liked.

You should continue this with bands like Ratt, Motley Crue, and Dokken, etc. I love Dokken, George Lynch can shred. Dokken 1-3 and Beast From The East (live album) are solid in my opinion. Those 4 albums make it necessary to have a tape player in my car, don't know how I haven't wore out the tapes. Lita Ford is killer too, I like the Runaways, but love Lita Ford. I'm huge on Journey, love pre Perry and newer stuff, dropped interest after Perry Left, I liked Trial By Fire.
Also, I love Thin Lizzy, they have a lot of great songs, they just didn't get that much exposure. Harmony work was great. Chinatown, Wild One, Cowboy Song, Whiskey In The Jar. Their music rocked, but they had a lot of darker songs, maybe that's why they never caught on.

80's meh. Travelling wilburys handle with care is my fav song of the 80's and their inside out and end of the line. I like ultravox vienna. Hate michael jacksons songs cheesy pop. Elvis costello is amazing. Electric light orchestra and queen had some great songs. One big problem I had with the 80's is everyones voice sounded the same. Take "tear for fears" as an example everyone from the eighties has the same voice as them.

    Btw:
Metallica's black album is from the 90s. Police: "Message in a Bottle" and "Regatta de Blanc" album is late 70s.

80's chart music was in general awful (Culture Club, Roxette, Spandau Ballet, Duran Duran, even Prince had some hits that were too sillykitschy)and charts never really recovered. The Cure, XTC, Fischer Z, Talking Heads, Devo, David Bowie The Smiths, Jesus and Mary Chain, Sisters Of Mercy, Triffids, Motörhead, U2 , Simple Minds (don't see the link with U2) , Pixies, Sparks, Neon Judgment, TC Matic, Front 242, Mano Negra, , Eurythmics, Joy Division, Depeche Mode (more or less), Beasty Boys and a handful of tracks by Anne Clark, Clash, Madonna, ZZ Top, OMD, Billy Idol, Kim Wilde, Robert Palmer; B52's, REM, The Police, and many more I like, or will have forgotten to mention. A lot of this music I only listened to in the nineties, most albums I got or lent at the time were sixties or seventies.
Neil Young and Springsteen were still going on strong. Abba lost it in the 80's, Queen lost it after Flash Gordon.
Michael Jackson, never liked his music except Billie Jean and Beat It, and surely not his very affected obnoxious way of singing. Nice and harmless guy of course and I wouldn't be bothered with him one minute if his music hadn't been allover the place in the eighties. Same goes for Bryan Adams, except for his singing, quite acceptable.
Good thing in the late eighties were the disco's that only played the new electronic dance music, early house , techno, new beat etc, so you could have fun without getting the charts dance hits( or those awful power ballads) , most of them I didn't like, forced upon.
And if you don't known them, you should check out The Pogues, probably the best eighties band.
Never heard of "Oinkle Boingle". Kraftwerk is mainly 70's (except Computerworld 1981 and some later more recent stuff).

not to many good things to say about the 80's unless you like drum machines and synths. So many crap bands, to many to mention. You had to go deep underground to find good music. Dream Syndicate was one great find.

I stopped listening to most radio station because the music was so, so bad. No individual artist except Marty Robbins and Englebert Humperdick
