Congrats on completing your Paul Weller collection. I was counting along and I have 8 studio and 2 live which is enough for me. Coincidentally, some songs from Days of Speed were recorded in Rimini Italy which is where I bought Stanley Road in 1997. I was in a record store there and they were playing the album. It sound familiar so I asked the staff who it was and as soon as she said Paul Weller I decided to get it based on just two songs. As for Chicago, I know the name but I can’t think of any songs, although I think the song that goes "Saturday in the park... the 4th of July" is theirs... ? I will consult Google. Cheers. Edit: I know a few more of their songs and I know Peter Cetera plus I have heard of Terry Kath...I just didn’t realise they were in Chicago.
That Chicago box set looks awesome! Glad you’re doing better, Larry. I know what you mean about the weather. Here in New Jersey for about a week it’s been rainy, overcast, with below average temperatures. But it is supposed to perk up by tomorrow!☺️🌞
The Chicago box set I got a couple of months before a basement flooding hit us, so I lost it, unfortunately. Really would LOVE to get that one again! Hope you’re having fun!
I have that Chicago box set. It is what is. Nothing to it. But I agree it was a relatively inexpensive way to get all their early (and best) albums at once.
I have this set, it was very cheap when I bought it. I enjoy Chicago and this was a perfect way to inexpensively get a huge chunk of their discography (in my favourite era of theirs). A more hardcore Chicago fan can buy a more elaborate and expensive Chicago CD boxset but I don’t think this is aimed at them. For someone like me, this particular set was perfect.
When I was young teen I had a girlfriend that played Chicago all the time and my first dance with her was to Color My World , which I'm sure alot of first dances were to that song . Great Band great music.
Chicago was my first favorite band. And the first music I owned as well, a cassette of Chicago 17. Ended up getting 16 and a couple of compilations, never really got into other albums by them. Great band though.
"Hot Streets" was a good album to end that Chicago box set on. A lot of fans don't like "Hot Streets" as much, but I love "No Tell Lover", "Alive Again" and especially "Gone Long Gone". That's one of my all-time favorite Chicago songs. It reminds me of George Harrison and The Hollies' song "Long Dark Road". Now you just need "Chicago 16" and "Chicago 17" or "Greatest Hits 1982 - 1989" to complete your Chicago collection. There's a lot of great songs on that Chicago box set. I have the 'Group Portrait" box set instead. It has the best of those albums, including a good portion of the best ones.
I went from disliking Chicago as a teenager to liking a few hits and later liking the debut. I’d probably like a bit more if I gave them a chance. Horn bands and jam bands were not my thing originally, but slowly I’ve tried to get over that. Jazz rock and fusion similarly have taken me a while to get into, in limited amounts. Very glad to see you’ve gotten the whole Paul Weller discography, I’m looking forward to you ranking them someday. Since your interest in Paul Weller started, I haven’t bought any more than the albums I own, but there are five sitting in my Amazon cart!
They slimmed down the Chicago Complete Studio Albums Volume One box set! I think they were originally released as one complete box covered the Columbia era and the other covered the Warner Brothers/Reprise up through Chicago Records albums.
And the reason why the second Chicago album is simply called Chicago, is because they were threatened with a lawsuit by…The Chicago Transit Authority! Why? For using their name as the band’s name. So, Chicago II became Chicago, and the lawsuit was apparently never filed.
I've always thought that Chicago and Canada's Lighthouse were very similar bands Larry,at least in Chicago's early days, all the horns and stuff and I feel Feelin Stronger Everyday is super Beatles influenced. Bob
The early Chicago albums ARE confusing. They did themselves a disservice with this amorphous naming policy. I still can't identify what songs are on what albums. But you do have the best of the group in that selection. And there are some great songs in there. Cheers.
It’s a shame that the packaging of the Chicago set was a disappointment. Would you please consider doing a ranking and review of these albums? Thank you.
Chicago is one of my favorite bands! That's a great collection of their first 10 studio albums. I am glad to see you featured Chicago. Enjoy.

Have these Chicago on vinyl
My hubby and my first date in 1986 was a Chicago concert :)
Nice! Congrats!

Days of speed is a fantastic live album. Highly recommend it to anyone getting into Paul Weller

I have that Chicago box set. Quite good! I would not mind a similar boxset for Paul Weller. Of course, he has a lot of albums.
My sister turned me onto Wildwood...masterpiece. Overlooked in the USOf A. I think his talents up there with Townshend/Davies .
Try to get Paul Weller "Live at the BBC"....it's a great selection of live performances

Where did you find the Chicago set at? Maybe an early early early Christmas gift to myself! 🤣🤷🏼♀️
Amazon Canada, but I see it's $60 there now.
Amazon
Not incredibly familiar with Chicago. What would you say is the best album to start with?
Their first album, Chicago Transit Authority.
True, although V also is a solid entry point.
For me, Chicago 2. It's absolutely full of great stuff, but without some of the waffle that's on the first album.
It’s a shame that the packaging of the Chicago set was a disappointment. Would you please consider doing a ranking and review of these albums? Thank you.
I doubt I will do that, as I only really like the first few albums.
Thanks, Larry. I understand.
