      it is not bios related at all most hp laptops come with the bios set up to run the cpu as fast as it can and give it all the power it wants. all of the slowing down happens inside windows. so the hp command center and my hp app or whatever they have can act really weird. you can just reinstall windows or run the two removal scripts that are located inside the intel extreme tuning utility install folder. then that performance or cool things wont be available anymore but all of the power limits will be removed and fans will run only run up to the max of the default profile. so the cpu and gpu will use as much power it wants but it wont cut from. the cpu gpu power balance wont be an issue it will still do the balancing correctly. this means if you run some cpu only stuff the cpu can run insanely hast and you will get the fastest result ever from that model of cpu (inside the cooling limitations of course)
      (sorry for commenting this more than once i just wanted you to see it)

      is this really the case?@@teomantedu i have the 16" and i really want to figure out how to make this feel punchier than it currently does. Its been a bit shocking with how poor the battery life is as compared to how it is touted. Additionally performance is really not great either :(

    • @teomantedu
      @teomantedu 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TheNewSynchronicity for the battery life try disabling the battery optimization thing in the bios settings. that feature limits the battery to how much it wants usually. you can just use it without that that feature it just limits the battery to preserve its life. its not a problem to have it off.

    • @teomantedu
      @teomantedu 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheNewSynchronicity doing the things i said for the intel xtu limiting is great everything will still work great but the long term power limit will still be at the intel’s tdp but you i dont know if this will wotk for you cus i have envy, you can use OmenMon to set it to performance mode and then you can just quit omenmon. that and no intel xtu will enable it to use as much power as it can and it will not slow down till it hits the thermal limit

    This was the best review ever. One thing I was wondering about was that the geekbench score of Spectre 16 was lower than that of Spectre 14. From this video, we found out pl1 problem spectre 16 has under 30w pl1 setting. So Hp have to make spectre 16 pl1 to 45w. Notebookcheck benchmark has mean 155h have the best performance at 45w. 😊😊

    I'm typing from this very device. My specific 2-and-1 being the 16 inch, 32 gigs ram, 1TB storage, and RTX 4050.
    Very happy with my purchase.
    The keyboard is FANTASTIC
    The Battery life is solid - I'm averaging around 10 hours on full charge.
    Downside - Finger prints love this screen and no micro SD slot is disappointing as the reviewer here rightly points out.
    But as a finance professional I admire the great big screen, ability to read newspapers, articles, and take notes in Tablet mode while also having a battery life that last's my full day of work.
    It was between this and the Dell XPS for me. But the 2-and-1 functionality made the decision for me.

    If you're down to solving the performance mystery, with Throttlestop you can see what the PL1 and PL2 are in the TPL menu by default and crank them to theoretical max, but HP always locks down the PL1's, so you'll probably bypass the soft limit on PL1 but not the hard one. On my Spectre 16 2021 it's PL1'd hard at 40w, but I suspect they should've raised that cap much much higher since the Spectre 14.0 can do 36w by now

    I have the 2019 version of this laptop and I still love it, even though I just bought a new Lenovo Legion 7i with higher specs. Many times when I'm going to sit at a coffee shop for awhile, I prefer to bring my HP Spectre rather than the Lenovo because the Spectre will run circles around the Lenovo when it comes to battery life. Like three times or more longer. I guess that's the difference between having a i7 CPU and NVidia 1050 GPU compared to a i9 and 4070. On top of that, the HP is noticeably lighter. The main negative for my version of the Spectre is that when playing games, the poor little 1050 GPU is working its arse off and you can feel it in the amount of heat it generates. Like hot enough where you don't want it sitting on your lap. Unless you like 3rd degree burns. A secondary effect from this is shorter battery life before needing to plug in. I get about 2.5 hours of game time before needing to plug in. The Lenovo gets only 2.5 hours just surfing the web or watching YT videos. When playing games, it gets about 1.5 hours.

    To me the microphones still sound much worse compared the ones found in MacBooks. Especially with Voice Isolation turned on it’s not even close. The microphones in the Spectre have this typical hollow laptop microphone sound that makes online conferences even more exhausting. It’s not entirely terrible. But with Voice Isolation activated on my MacBook Air I have to use headphones to hear the difference between the build in mics and my Elgato Wave usb microphone and that is very good. It‘s a pity that the Windows side of the laptop world still hasn’t caught up by now… Are there any Windows laptops that are actually competitive in this regard?

    it is not bios related at all most hp laptops come with the bios set up to run the cpu as fast as it can and give it all the power it wants. all of the slowing down happens inside windows. so the hp command center and my hp app or whatever they have can act really weird. you can just reinstall windows or run the two removal scripts that are located inside the intel extreme tuning utility install folder. then that performance or cool things wont be available anymore but all of the power limits will be removed and fans will run only run up to the max of the default profile. so the cpu and gpu will use as much power it wants but it wont cut from. the cpu gpu power balance wont be an issue it will still do the balancing correctly. this means if you run some cpu only stuff the cpu can run insanely hast and you will get the fastest result ever from that model of cpu (inside the cooling limitations of course)

    I would buy a tablet and laptop combo rather than this 360 hybrid at this price. I still need to get these 2-in-1s, especially 16 inches, that are not practical to use as handheld tablets.

  • @michaelbrown192

    Contradicting information regarding the battery, according to notebookcheck it's great, you sound like it's really bad, in the end one is confused. Also:
    - can you stream a 4k youtube video full screen with it staying silent by silent I mean the fans are off
    - does the dedicated gpu get turned off if you are not gaming, any optimus support?
    - does it have g-sync?
    Actually, notebookcheck reviews one without the nvidia gpu so that might explain the difference in battery life which leads me to believe it does not have optimus and it's just running constantly, so buy one without nvidia if you care about battery.

    I hate all windows laptops and i refuse to buy apple products ever again. There is not one single brand that I'm like "yeah, this is the macbook pro of windows", there is always some kind of compromise that you're going to make either in performance, or in the lack of ports, or just a poorly made product A manufacture needs to look at what Apple is doing and take their build quality and transfer that approach to a windows laptop design.

    • @jzee95
      @jzee95 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You will most likely never see a laptop that works as seamlessly as apple. Apple makes their own software and now they even make their own hardware (CPU) which is why they work so well. In case of windows, software is made by microsoft, cpu is intel or amd, gpu is nvidia or amd. There is just no way for a brand to make the product work as well as apple does. And I say this as someone that dislikes apple.
