The charging system is absolutely a solution in search of a problem. Replacing a battery is preemptive maintenance you do once per year (about as often as Ben cleans his Glocks I think). Keep some spares in your range bag in case you forget. They have a ten year shelf life and take up no space. Unless you have a badly designed optic (looking at you, RMR) changing them is quick and easy. Compare this: with a rechargeable cell, all of which have self-discharge and can run flat even without current draw on them. Dollars to donuts, if your sight is flat, and even if you did remember to bring the charger doodad, it's flat too.
The optic looks good, and you get the added benefit that whenever you tell your friends about it it sounds like you bought it from an adult toy company
Hopefully we’ll see more budget friendly options like this that hold up. It will either put downward pricing pressure on the bigger guys or at least pressure them to innovate in order to justify the higher prices.
Using these on my G17 gen5 and my ADC PCC - both in greed dot variant. Holding zero with no issues so far, dot brightness is more than enough even for the sunniest days.
The big drawback to a nonreplaceable battery is that the sight dies with the battery. The shock of recoil kills batteries pretty consistently, so being able to throw a new one in to get back up and running is a good idea.
@chrisb9478 I've found that Duracell batteries usually last around 10k rounds before having issues. They last longer in some optics, shorter in others.
Hey Ben. The concepts and drills in your videos have helped me become a much much more proficient shooter. Seriously. Thank you for the free knowledge. I’m wondering what you think of micro red dots on small single stack pistols? How much bigger of a learning curve are you creating by having a new shooter run a smaller gun and optic? I’m trying to help a friend with his first CCW setup and he wants to learn on and run a smaller gun with an optic. I personally run a dot on a full sized pistol but, I am not the biggest fan of single stack micro with a dot. Looking for your take on this thanks.
I have two - both the green dot version. 507Comp covers fit them perfectly as they’re the same size. Been over a year since I’ve charged either of them. No complaints at all from me!
I’ve picked up several for play guns. Less than $125 during sales so it’s kind of a no brainer. For a non critical role would you rather have seven of these or one Trijicon? A bit of lens distortion is the only negative. Lots of screws for mounting with two lengths per set. Give them some time and they will be up there with Holosun for quality.
I ordered one, based on reviews from reputable reviewers like this. The first arrived with a blemished housing. The replacement had warped glass, a defective button, and the windage dial only worked in one direction. Really wanted this to work for me, but disappointed. Didn’t want to keep trying replacements, so sent back and requested refund.
Honestly have been impressed with the "sleepers" at this price point like some of the Cyelee and Meprolight sights that have stood up pretty dang well - at least as well as any of the comparable Holosuns that are 2x the cost. If this Osight holds up and holds zero, it may make for another option in the great age of pistol dots that we're in. The rechargeable option is nice, especially considering that a lot of optics makers in the MRDS space make claims for battery life that are the best case scenario, and not typical every day use like many of us do. I've been disappointed by some of my Holosun dots (EPS Carry, for one) that I'm changing the battery on probably every 3-4 months if I use the Circle Dot reticle setting.
Hell think about the gov revenue about being able to form 1 the third hole id pay 200 for that I still have a subconscious theory that pre 86 owners are anti repealing that law

But unknown quality... Ben needs to run way more terrible chinesium green dots for science! And my astigmatism combined with too many slide cuts... 🤣👍
Hi Ben, I have a question that no one has yet been able to answer for me, and I'm hoping that you can help with it. How does one control their breathing while shooting, and how important is controlling your breathing while shooting? Thanks in advance, Jorge Morales.
I don't like devices where I can't change out my own battery, so this is kind of a miss for me anyway. Especially after the first osight model, this one would have to be really good for me to consider it.
So what are the benefits of the rechargable system? If it means the sight can be lower and thinner because no battery compartment at the bottom, then that is cool. If the sight lasts a while and the charger cover lasts for 5 yr then potentially, but if it doesnt offer battery life over just putting a CR2032 in it, then what is even the point? The sight should last as long or longer with this method, otherwise there is no point because it offers no benefit. They also need to come out with (maybe they have?) a standard wire cable with the magnet end, then buy a couple as an emergency, the battery cover thing seems kind of pointless and likely adds cost. I guess it could mean you could charge it without needing the gun near a socket for safety reasons (leaving a gun out). But if it doesnt offer 10 year battery life or something with this setup then why bother? It seems like something that could get better over time where it can become 5 year constant on and like 10-15 year on one charge of the charger, but right now, the tech doesnt seem there yet. Also unless this is a new variant, these explode when dropped a normal height.
It’s neat but if they can make that for $200 then they can likely make it much cheaper with less parts using a traditional battery. It seems like its solving a problem that nobody had.
Folks let me tell you now.. for budget optics, DO NOT sleep on Cyelee optics. Their cat / wolf pro rdo's are amazing for sub 200! side loading, good emitters, aluminum, good clarity. Love mine I wouldnt trust the osight since some reviews have shown the batteries dying out in 6 months and not charging.
Early examples were fragile. If they managed to make them durable...well that's good I guess. I feel like Vortex did a good job, Holosun has been doing a good job, and apparently Gideon is doing alright these days, and now Olight might be making optics. PS. My feelings about Olight aside, if these optics are good...I may have to suck it the fuck up. Reason being, is that the most annoying part about having a pistol mounted dot for me, is swapping out the battery. I'd be much happier if I just had to charge it via some connector. Now, this being said, Holosun has been going the route of solar charging dots BUT they do have a nice connector that they use for the Holosun PID, and it would be sick to see an optic that charges via a similar connector.
All of Olight’s stuff (I’ve used a few of their flashlights and their knives) is exactly that - good quality budget gear. It isn’t the new hotness that the high speed, low drag tacticool guy wants. But they get shit done.
I think a rechargeable red dot is the most poor-math thing I've heard last year. Like what are you saving? I can get a 6 pack of 2032s off amazon for $8. And what happens after a year or two of charging that battery? How many times have you had a cell phone that just doesn't stay charged like it used to? Oh and they'll say, "just send it back in for warranty man." Yeah you know whats better than sending my knife back to Microtech to have the main spring replaced? Doing it myself.
The rechargeable thing is cool but I just don't see the point. Could go either way but changing a battery once a year takes 1 minute and the cost of batteries is completely negligible. Just seems like this introduces a new part to lose. Always glad to see companies trying something different though.
I disagree that it's "not a huge deal" to be micro USB since they give you cables. It's 2025, nothing should be micro USB anymore. If it's not Type-C, I'm not buying it. I shouldn't have to have so many cables around the house - with everything on Type-C I can plug any device into any cable I find in my house.
