Wery few know what the Bible actually has promised us all this time. Look up Revelation 20;13 and see a part of it. Jesus comments this in John 5;28 and Paul in Acts 24;15. Add Revelation 21;3-5 and you`ll se Gods plan with us and our planet
" I don't know where we went wrong but the feeling's gone and I just can't get it back. " Anyone who has ever loved and lost can identify with those lines. A masterpiece from Lightfoot.
Our Gordon didn't just scribble the lyrics on a napkin, with the chord changes added. He "composed" all his songs on manuscript paper (he was a schooled, educated Music School grad) - and once he got the melody line and chord progression down - he'd add lyrics (he was a bona-fide poet) - and then he orchestrated it. He "composed" - like an old-time (Bach, Beethoven, etc.) composer. He was our musical poet laureate - our Troubador - our "Minstrel Of The Dawn." He wasn't just a Canadian icon, treasure or legend. He was family. He could have headed South of the 49th - but he chose to stay here - and there wasn't one house in Canada he wasn't welcome in. He was OURS - and we were his. He was beloved - and he will be missed forever.
Gordon Lightfoot was an honest songwriter that wrote some heartbreaking songs about his own life experiences. He wrote this song about his divorce from his wife. "Heroes often fail. And you won't read that book again because the ending's just too hard to take." 💔
Masterpiece songwriting. I grew up listening to Gordon Lightfoot since the early 70's, and there's simply no bad Gordon Lightfoot song. To me, all of his songs are various levels of good to great, and they're all so well written both lyrically and musically.
This has been one of my favorite songs for nearly 40 years…Gordon died on May 1, 2023…I’m 55 now…and can’t remember a time when I didn’t love his music. Truly one of the greats…and I’m grateful for all the great music he gave us.
Honey, you are listening to real music. Not this crap of today. Gordon Lightfoot’s voice is so soft and soothing. This is a timeless classic. Glad you are loving this song as I do.
I first heard this song as a young teen, in 71. It’s remained a favorite of mine all these years later. Gordon Lightfoot has had many wonderful hits. I hope you explore more of his work. Well done!
With Gordon Lightfoot's passing, I searched for this song and found your channel. As a born and bred American, who I lived in West Africa for nearly a decade. where that culture became a part of my consciousness, I'm amazed and so very happy that this part of Western (Canadian guy) culture translates as well. Thank you so much for your work.
This is my favorite song of all time , beautiful and bittersweet., there will never be another Gordon Lightfoot a tremendous singer songwriter, who weaves a story, in his songs that emotes. such truth and feeling that it goes straight to the heart. His music makes us feel deeply. Thank you for your reaction to this wonderful song and sharing your perspective. Your review was heartfelt and true, you have a sweet and beautiful spirit and heart. Thank you.
I always loved this song since the 1st time I heard it on the radio quite a few moons ago. Then one night when I was driving to work in a very depressed state after my then girlfriend broke up with me I turned on the radio and this song came on and it really hit home and the song and emotions stayed with me the whole night long. This song is just so personal to me.
I'm an older guy who heard his songs as a kid, and they were old timey when I become a teen. But after the break up with my high school love songs like this helped me feel not alone. Seeing your reaction made me remember how much this meant to me. Thanks so much and consider me subscribed!
Young Gordons voice was simply wonderful in my twenties i would listen hour after hour spellbound certain artists have that effect on our lives elvis was one john lennon was another and so was Gordon it is the interpretation of the singer that makes a great song never tire of this one
I was a high school senior, in Michigan, when the Edmond Fitzgerald was lost, 1975. It was a big deal back then. It still is in this part of the country.
If you have time have a look at Sandy Denny who knows where the time goes she had a smashing voice one from the old folk club days.Thank you and stay safe.
I love the fact that he takes accountably for his part in his failed marriage. Reading about the backstory of this song has made me appreciate it much more
I have loved his music since the 1960's good Reaction ! He has passed away "Rest in peace" Gordon Meredith Lightfoot Jr. (November 17, 1938 - May 1, 2023)
I have seen many comments about this song but your point of view is one of the best if not the best, as a fellow compatriot and over sixty year hard fan of Gorden just hope you will keep on digging on his talent and his amazing music.
This is my favorite Gordon Lightfoot song. Cyn, I received your premier notice at 2:11 my time!! :-(wtf)-: Gordon's marriage was indeed collapsing. He knew not why, The more he tried to reach his wife, to try and salvage their marriage, the more she pushed away. Leaving him gutted and bewildered. Mr. Lightfoot is the pride of Canada and a priceless gift to us all. No less than Bob Dylan stated Gordon is one of his favorite songwriters. There's not much higher praise than that. FWIW, I agree. Great reaction. You are astute and much wiser than your young years. Which I believe ticks up 1 year in the very near future :-) RNB
"The more he tried to reach his wife, to try and salvage their marriage, the more she pushed away." Is that what he told you, or she told you, or they both told you?
Nice reaction but I would have preferred that you had talked more about the production of the song. I mean the bass, the string arrangement, etc. Of course, as always, his words are magnificent. If you really want to be impressed by an artist that even Bob Dylan says is one of his favourites, then you should dive into Gordon's music. Almost anything from 1976 and earlier is worth listening to. The beauty of his poetry and the melodies along with the expertise put into every song will blow you away if you take the time to investigate him. My favourite all time song by him is The Last Time I Saw Her.
I've been coming back to this video over and over to watch her reactions, like at 1:50. I am a different gender and race, but I can see myself in her face. In this we are one.
Hi my dear.... I just woke up and saw this wonderful reaction video... and what can I say ? You are absolutely right with what you said after the song. Your sum-up is - again - so lovely and on point, so that there is nothing more to say. When I listen to the lyrics, I can somehow relate to my past, as well, because I was in a similar situation for many years, although never married. And my dear, if you could read MY mind, you would find so many different things and thoughts that I have about YOU, that it would make you as happy as I am, having you as s friend. When I think about you, it makes my heart and soul smile... and I hope, you are feeling the same way, when you think about me. That's one reason, why our friendship means the world to me. If you want to explore more from Gordon Lightfoot, I would suggest "Sundown" - yet another beautiful song from him... but please do not forget my other suggestion from your last Gordon Lightfoot reaction ;: "Procol Harum - A salty dog Live in Denmark 2006", I'm sure you will also love this song very much. Hugs and kisses from your dear friend Gerry
Sweetie....I love watching young people discover these absolute solid platinum songs and realize...old doesnt equal lame...I watch your eyes open and realize ...OMG....I had no idea! That was AMAZING. Oh yea...Are you married!?! LOL 😋
The lyrics are so heartfelt and beautiful, they are almost too painful to listen to. The musical arrangement is sheer perfection. The guitar parts, the strings. This, and Don Maclean’s Vincent are my 2 all time favourite songs.
I have read that he wrote this song after his marriage fell apart, in response to the heartbreak he felt at that time. It sounds like you interpreted the song exactly as he wrote it. Is it because you are so intuitive, or because he was such a talented songwriter? I think both! ;)
If I could sing like the poets and kings of this world If I could rise like the wind or the tides of the sea I would sing you to sleep my love, with sweet melody And let you dream away till the morning light returned again To take you away from me If I could speak with the tongues of the masters of old If I could tame all the fleeting perceptions I hold Would I stand in the marketplace before you? To be shouted down without any warning at all, to be stood by the wall And shot by the man in blue If I could run with the grace of a sun-colored stallion If I could fly like the great silver jets in the morning If I caused the wind to change with one wave of my hand And if I could play the final symphony and set it free Would it mean anything to you?
Absolutely beautiful isn't? Your brain gets emotional and you release all of these endorphines (spelling). Gordon Lightfoot was a poet and he wrote masterpieces.

Gordon Lightfoot sings songs about life he tells stories in his songs You're going down the rabbit hole
Your voice/accent is too sweet!!
Gordon's gone now, but he lives forever in his songs. God rest you, Mr. Lightfoot.

Such an amazing song. Great lyrics. Great, emotional singing. Emotionally tugging.

I can never listen to this song without getting emotional, but it's still my favorite song of his.
I always tear up when I hear this song ❤️😢
The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is my favorite song of his... but I may be biased because I live 3 streets from Lake Erie... also a Great Lake....
@@robertparobechek6580 now that you mention it, that might be my favorite. That song is epic!

This is one of Gordon’s most personal songs…..it’s about the breakup of his first marriage.
I'm sorry but I have to just saying what I'm feeling at the moment! Damn young lady you are ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS 😍 ❤️
This song haunts me from childhood even when I didn't really understand the full meaning of it.
A wonderful reaction and summation.
Another honest and beautiful reaction to an honest and beautiful, yet sad, masterpiece.
The hero would be me ... but heroes often fail .... One of the best lines in a song ... ever.
Stories always end. Damn. He's right. Damn.
A classic, heartbreaking tune. I learned to play guitar with a song sheet of this song.
I just learned this on guitar too! One of my favorites to play 💗💗💗
Song gets you right in the feels, doesn't it?! I have neve gotten tired of this song even after whatever 45 years or something. Sigh.

Yes love this song. Great reaction. Play it on guitar. For me this is about wanting for a love one knows he can never have. but longs for.
Gordon wrote beautiful love songs. If you can listen to an older one called "If I Could"
If I could sing like the poets and kings of this world
If I could rise like the wind or the tides of the sea
I would sing you to sleep my love, with sweet melody
And let you dream away till the morning light returned again
To take you away from me
