The part where he sings "the feelings that you lack" was objected to by his daughter. She pointed out that he was guilty of that too. From then on in his live performances he sang "the feelings that WE lack".
Great song! I was so sad to hear of Gordon Lightfoot's passing away recently. Loved his music. One of the best songwriters & storytellers. He was a Canadian legend. Gordon Lightfoot has had many hits through his long career such as "Sundown", "Early Morning Rain", "Steel Rail Blues", "Ribbon Of Darkness", "Carefree Highway", "Rainy Day People", "Cotton Jenny", "Black Day In July", "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" etc.
An All-time classic and one of the most perfectly constructed and beautifully sung songs ever recorded. I love this song. RIP Mr. Lightfoot. Your place in the pantheon of great singers/songwriters/poets and storytellesr is secure. RNB
Gordon was a great storyteller! My faves were Carefree Highway & The Circle is Small but his biggest hits were Sundown & Wreck of The Edmund Fitzgerald. Nice Reaction Blessings 😊! My super power would be invisible 😅.
This is the caliber of song you would, occasionally, find on the pop charts 50 years ago. Songs like this helped solidify the popularity of the 'singer/songwriter' era. Have we come a long way? Not really. This is an adult song using adult lyrics and concepts to describe universal themes. This recording is very honest. There's nobody playing off stage, no 'click tracks' or pre-recorded parts being used and, most importantly, no pitch correction. Thankfully, none of these things existed, then.
Great reaction. This song is so transparent about his life and affair he had: “Beauty queen who played the scene is bringing all the good things out in me.” Then he could not understand the feelings that you “lack” (changed later at request of his daughter). “Sundown” should be next… it is about him being cheated on (not sure if it was the “beauty queen” from this song or not). 😮
Gordon Lightfoot was a legend, this song takes me back to my younger years..Other songs you should listen to is "Carefree Highway" and "Sundown"..R.I.P. Gordon 😥🎤🎵🎶🎸❤️
Here in Canada I grew up listening to Gordon Lightfoot. He is one of the best storyteller musicians I have ever heard or probably will ever hear. I've had the pleasure of seeing him in concert three times. He sounds just as good live as he does on a studio recording. He's a legend and is greatly missed by many here.
One of the very best singer-songwriters ever. Such an incredible talent. This has always been one of my favorite songs. He has dozens upon dozens of great songs though.
This song, ALL GORDON LIGHTFOOT music/ songs reminds me of the 70's, driving in my mom's White Mustang Convertible with a black top, through the country roads in Indiana. Great memories
I think it was AUSTIN CITY LIMITS on PBS, probably 15 years ago, he was on stage in front of his microphone stand with his guitar 🎸, big band behind him, HE WAS AN EXCELLENT, LIVE PERFORMER, R.I.P. recently passed away
Another lovely reaction. Great song choice. Gordon Lightfoot and John Prine are the best story-tellers. Maybe react to John Prine - "Sam Stone" (sad vietnam-vet song) or "Hello In there" (OAP-home) next?
These may have already been suggested but I didn’t read all the comments: Sundown, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, Canadian Railroad Trilogy, Song for a Winter’s Night, Softly, Beautiful. The 2nd and 3rd songs are fairly long, epic ballads with wonderful storytelling. Lots more but don’t want to overwhelm you. Lovely, sincere reaction on your part.
Gordon Lightfoot songs include Rainy Day People, Early Morning Rain, Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, Sundown, and a favorite of mine Carefree Highway. other folk song type singers/writers of the same era in the 1970'swere John Denver, Jim Croce, Dan Fogelberg, Joni Mitchell, and James Taylor to mention a few.
Bob Dylan called him a rare talent, and this live performance proves it. 🌺
Being Canadian , We are so proud of Gordon great song writer and singer our National Treasure!
That’s awesome!
USA loved him too. I'm your neighbor in Michigan

Ha ha I like invisibility 🤩
Being invisible is the easiest thing to do . . . . ;-)
And "Sundown"

The Beauty Queen was his Wife. She brought all the Good things out in him, not the other Woman
Such a beautiful, emotional, gut-wrenching experience. But what a soothing voice!
🔥
one of my favorite singers and this song

I saw Gordon Lightfoot (R.I.P) with Don McClean at a summer concert a couple of decades ago. It was awesome. I took my mom.
That sounds good! Glad you got such lovely memories with mom
