Excellent interview! Thank you Suma and Swami Sarvapriyananda! I love Swami Sarvapriyananda’s description of how to check whether one is enlightened, the paradigm shift but then being able to manifest it on an ongoing basis. 😊❤️💥
Beautiful conversation. So very interesting to hear about the paradigm shift and ethical manifestation described from a completely different tradition to the one I work out of, yet at the same time uniting in the same conclusion. Love the gift of life, love the world around you and love that which created all that is lovable.
Thank you Swami Sarvapriyananda for teaching us Advaita Vedanta so that we can free ourselves from samsara, the cycle of rebirth and death via Knowledge, I am Brahman. Om Peace Peace Peace 🙏🏾
Thanks Suma. I really appreciate all of your video postings. Your interviewing technique is very balanced and this one is particularly good. It is such a pleasure to hear Swami Sarvapriyananda .
I am absolutely amazed at Swami's proficiency in Sanskrit and his deep knowledge of all our vedic literature. I am just starting to get interested in my twilight years to understand our Vedanta and I am really struggling to get considerable amount of time living in a household and its associated commitments. Thank you Suma for your penetrating questions. Obviously you are far ahead of peasants like me.
Ah yes, Swami Sarvapriyananda. This is a wonderful Christmas present 🎁Suma. And I love the Christmas color (intentional or not). Swami Sarvapriyananda is a great example of a Being who is very dialed in because he is able to speak on all levels about the practical necessities of doing the work. And if we are paying attention, he quietly weaves in that even if we are not "fully aware" (mentally), the work is being done anyway. Happy Holidays everyone!🎄🎊You are all amazing.
I feel enlighten even by Swami’s voice. Thank you so much for this interview. My mind is blown away by such profound teachings. My take away from Swami’s talk - The demarkation between man, god and universe is very artificial. We are the reality in which the entire universe appears like the waves in the ocean of our consciousness, the waves are like the universe, people, events, life. Don’t be trapped or attached to the waves, the only reality in an ocean is water, identify yourself as water not the waves of birth and death, life of misery, happiness, rich, poor, pain, sufferings. There is no second reality as waves in the ocean, water alone is the reality. The entire universe arises, sustain and subside in one consciousness. Consciousness is the only reality which we are.
I thought God oriented was self oriented. Words and their meaning can trip us up. Thanks for teaching me that understanding/perspective of duality and non duality. Those terms are described differently by people who speak to this stuff but that understanding from Swami is super lucid/logical as usual.
Do you feel different when you take the perspective of your child going to school for the first time? You may feel feelings but that's it. You are the same. How you know now Suma is how you know after enlightenment. It can't be any other way. Take Swamis word for it if not mine if you find yourself back here reading comments in a two year old video. The content is timeless given the subject nature and the Swamis heart. Your heart too. Were lucky to be able to witness your sincere heartfelt approach. We need more of that I say so I guess I have to do something to effect change on a grander scale than the individual experience.
It seems to me that seeing through the perspective that seperates out stuff like I, me, thought, feelings, water, ocean, sun, light...helps. What can also help is grouping all of these words and their meanings inside sentences and conversation under one category. Thoughts and feelings. From this perspective you can disentangle yourself from alot within mind. Were left with thoughts and feelings more or less and what animates all. Hold tight and self cognize/meditate with this knowing. Nothing more needed. In fact less is best because its easier. Easier is less doing. Not doing is being. Be here now without thought. You've done it before and will do it again, you just didn't recognize it. Give yourself over to this logic if for only a moment. A moment recognized in this way can reveal everything. This way begin to put all things into the category of identical things. Thoughts are thought, see this and unify all thoughts into an easily manageable single thought or two. Its easier to see what isn't (self), that is apparent with less distraction.
Emptying ones self takes a moment or two. Recognizing where to put attention is massive because we stop looking outside of ourselves, however we still harbor beliefs and ideologies. These kinds of closely held beliefs need to be reconciled if we are to see clearly on top of the all important real time recognition of our self. Directing our attention on the cognized I Am thought which is another way if saying a state of we know we know in real time and holding it. Hold that state staying tuned. More will appear in your mind giving clarity that can only be found within you, not from ideas outside yourself given to you by another. Its enough to stop thinking and sit with yourself.

Thanks for posting this talk on TH-cam. I feel blessed hearing every talk of Swamiji and each of his words and sentences are enough to put anyone to meditation and find the way to realise the pure consciousness. Although I had a question to Swamiji which might be answered eventually is what is the root cause of this illusion. If I know I am water why should I ever have the illusion of being a wave or the ocean. Similarly if I compare the Sun as pure consciousness and moon as the reflected consciousness which is our mind, would Sun have ever the illusion that it is the moon. In vedantic texts the source is ignorance but why is the ignorance there at all. Rather we should have the first person experience that we are pure consciousness and not this body mind construct which ultimately happens in Samadhi as per the philosophy. Please note I am an ardent follower of Advaita Vedanta and fully convinced by the philosophy but my mind somewhere is looking for this answer. 🙏
@@anirbanchatterjee6126 My understanding is as follows: The illusion of the mind is due to its qualities. The pure consciousness is always there. The mind with its qualities acts as a veil.
@@AmitabhaBanerjeeJB - Thanks Amitabha for the clarification. So one may come to the conclusion that since illusion is in mind, the realisation/Samadhi happens at the level of mind and not at the level of pure consciousness because pure consciousness is always there. 🙏
My money is on Swami Sarvapriyananda being the highest realization given he just told us that. He serves God EXACTLY as he serves me. That there is a model citizen that brings heaven to earth. He won't copp to it because we think thoughts that are very powerful and dictate our actions and feelings unbeknownst to us. He recognizes his thoughts and emotions under more clarity than I could even hope too give for all my bloviating. Its important to recognize our audience and know what they see. Some politicians have a crude notion of this by squishing two words together. Some politicians or gangsters like Vladimir Putin use this along with physical coercion because hes mostly blind to this stuff. His own sense of self is utterly unmoored outside of his desires. His desires dictate his world and they blind him. To jave desire is to blind ones self to what is a greater panoramic view. There's still more but Vladimir Putin is blind as a bat and his ignorance of this blinds him more. Hes entombed himself within a world he does not see. He will.
excellent interview ! Thank you , Suma: consciousness-advaita vs. neo-advaita, speakers vs. teachers. mostly no communication possible, but you did it! So i know Suma basically from interviews with the non-teachers, and swami of course stands in a long tradition of teachers. i like neoadvaitins, but in the end they mostly speak arrogantly against traditional teachers. without dialogue. what a pity.maybe they hear this interview and learn from wisdom of the millennia. "what happens after enlightenment ?". yes, its not finished then, and it´s not said in a minute. Swami and Suma, maybe you continue this communication ? Swamiji, maybe you consider some more clarification : why do these enlighten ones fight , why they don't collaborate ? is it really necessary to mark such strict positions ? debates always were part of vedic culture, so maybe they found ways out of this dualism ?!
At 5130 the Ven. Swamy talked about 3 types of enlightened people who attained self realisation: 1. Who continue to stay in seclusion from the world 2. Who once in a while enter into the and find the world fascinating 3. Who plunge into the world to help others attain liberation from delusion and sufferings. The Buddha and Swamy is of type 3 but can our friends help me about the other 2 types, in particular type 1? It has been said that those in type 1 are actually sending their love, positive energy and good wishes to the world which benefit from her or his very existence and being. I just got confused.
the self realisation means not realising God,but it should be what God intends through human beings .The human beings should serve each other with out anticipation of any returns ,which is as same as serving God..Earth is created by God to fulfill certain mission, will and wish of God ,to enact those will and wishes ,God himself appears in different persons...As for as a person ,death or end is there and no rebirth or heaven or hell. This way God is immortal and brings are immortal.the replica of God is every beings on earth.
My basic understanding point, which never seems to be definitively answered is.. what is meant by everything? Do they mean that everything including the external universe is determined by mind, including that which we are not receiving or thinking of,.. or did they just refer to all the elements of internal experience are filtered through/processed through mine which I can totally get behind. Who can answer this?
Hello Suma you interview all these people within non duality. How is your personal experience with it? If you could reply in text or make a video about it, I would enjoy to read/watch!
Rajasekhar K Dear Swamiji , Facing some problems to get relief from the problems I start doing yogic practices like adhyata , assume that continue practices attain me to Enlightenment. Pl clarify me after Enlightenment all my problems got solved and all my sorrows too solved.
Side note, the Dine' (indigenous Navajo) hold the belief that the eclipse we just witnessed in April 2024 is a time for rebirth. Renewed efforts to seize upon good intentions if memory serves correctly. The Navajo view the sun as life giving (which it 100% is for self evident reasons).
Swamiji I would like you to give some talks in Hindi. I personally believe that Hindi is a more suitable language for explaining Upanishads especially for those who can understand both Hindi and English.
Hi Suma. Thank you for this great interview. It is very nice, but I think the title is not the best. Maybe you could call it: "steps of enlightenment" or " ethics of enlightenment", "post enlightment" or something like that. You will get more views and the content will be clearer for people. Thank you for your work , keep going!
Miss Suma Gowda how could you know it outside of your personal awareness. Swami knows through personal awareness. Swami shares his awareness with like minded for self evident reasons. He knows what he knows or doesn't know through awareness. How could he know it any other way. Its self evident but the obstacle is thought. I digress by putting the term knowing onto his mind/experience/individuated experience. His experience isn't mine to describe or define. Im just revealing what I see that is apparent and out in the open. Words and descriptions get mixed interpretations culturally so take that for what its worth. One thing its worth is os it further reveals how You have to know for yourself through that mind and body you inhabit. Your very awareness is the lens as you read this. Learn the parameters of that lens through time as phenomena occurs. In this way you are present to attend to what thought is giving life too.
Its like common sense is the product of emotion begetting the same emotion by reaction. We take what we feel for the intent of another, this is a mistake and reactionary. Simple hear what's said and monitor your gut and see what arises if anything. Consciously see what arises in you from the gut to the heart to the mind and know its all in you and clearly seen. Then act accordingly through mindful presence. What's your intent? If its for everybody's benefit then you are awake as a citizen is that serves their democracy to form a more perfect Union. The other is Autocratic and serves one individual self at the expense of all others.
Interest in the various activities human beings avail themselves of definitely wanes. The only thing that retains any level of interest is simple being itself. No doubt about that. Everything else involves suffering. There's always some degree of consciousness occurring, even during dreaming and in deep sleep. However, there is no memory functioning at those times. Nirvikalpa samadhi, or the highest high according to the Hindus, is the same as deep sleep, only with the capacity for memory activated. Also, there is no reason to believe that consciousness is not an emergent quality of sufficiently complex neural networking. Just because machines are not conscious doesn't mean they won't become so. Humans are certainly hell bent on attaining this goal. Humans are entirely a natural phenomenon. Nature is functioning via humanity. We don't have control over any of this.
I do not understand this discussion, can one have enlightenment without the preparation, the seeing the one in everything, living a divine life? It appears to me the question was oh how should I behave after enlightenment - I would have thought the answer would be the same way you were before because to gain enlightenment you had to prepare yourself through detachment, knowledge and devotion to gain the enlightenment. With enlightenment living like that only increases and grows in intensity is it not? Doesn’t enlightenment occur when we have discarded the layers of ignorance - so after enlightenment all ignorance would be shed else how can we be enlightened without first dropping the layers of ignorance?
It is a proven fact that the "self realization" through the path of religion is mostly due to frontal lobe epileptic experience. From Sri Chaitanya to Sri Ramakrishna all suffered the same experience and the bunch of blinds are still discussing this fact. Please, read a scientific article everyday, this is the only treatment left.
Sometimes I wonder if a Western mind that can see talking to an eastern mind that can see can maybe together see a lesson/teaching that is easier to reveal? I have a notion and everybody already knows it more or less. In this thought stream/dream the citizen is the unmanifest for self evident reasons that most can think there way too. The workings of democracy are the manifest. This is the stage for the ultimate binary understanding of is and isn't. Simple enough but unfortunately much too simple to see for some/a few. Not a problem in the end though so don't worry for heavens sake😉, that falls into the category of thought or feelings and we have distilled that down to a simple concept, remember? Anyway back to the teaching and its place as something that folks can understand in the EXACT way an awakened sage would feel and see. How does the citizen view his relation to other within democracy. To the extent the citizen sees their self before the other citizens he serves democracy or the whole. This can be fleshed out to meet everyone's understanding given where they're at within the architecture of our minds and the ideology and beliefs that inhabit it. Having this already rudimentary understanding one can impress upon another citizen the reality they find themselves in and that citizen on the receiving end is given a reality with which yhey can measure their self against. More importantly we can hold them to it to the extent we relate to each other as citizens. I think this makes enough of my point. Guess Ill listen to Wayne Dyer read the Tao Te Ching again with some chillstep music in the background. Its quite a glorious day here in Arizona and typing on my phone so much can get tiresome.
I improved so many things in clearly now you ask again it is not position six times repeated by my self what ten points you ask again it is totally presented to you age advantage our thoughts may be reduced at my age 58 -60 between I can created many more things for human 65-70 how can created new things again and again it is allready six times presented to my human . My two books presented to you in my second book is human life what problems Jan facing thouse points produced . What 10 points remain you ask I think it but you are not created how can possible to the condition
I feel no responsibility. Kind of. I do see the impetus for responsibility but in the end Im still making a choice. Evolution appears to be more palatable when we make mindful choices given I/you chose this at some point.

Swamy talked about 3 types of enlightened people who attained self realisation:
1. Who continue to stay in seclusion from the world
2. Who once in a while enter into the and find the world fascinating
3. Who plunge into the world to help others attain liberation from delusion and sufferings.
The Buddha and Swamy is of type 3 but can our friends help me about the other 2 types, in particular type 1?
It has been said that those in type 1 are actually sending their love, positive energy and good wishes to
the world which benefit from her or his very existence and being. I just got confused.
Sadhana can give a lot of grief. Ramkrishna has to go thru fire in order to recognize realization.
the self realisation means not realising God,but it should be what God intends through human beings .The human beings should serve each other with out anticipation of any returns ,which is as same as serving God..Earth is created by God to fulfill certain mission, will and wish of God ,to enact those will and wishes ,God himself appears in different persons...As for as a person ,death or end is there and no rebirth or heaven or hell.

@ruc123 - Thank you for asking. I do plan to make a video at some point ...

Dear Swamiji ,
Facing some problems to get relief from the problems I start doing yogic practices like adhyata , assume that continue practices attain me to Enlightenment.
Hi Paris,
That's a good point. I changed the title, appreciate your feedback. Thank you.
Thank you for this beautiful interview 🙏. Peace and love everyone ✌️🕊️🕉️

What to do if devotion never comes but one still wants to try it?
@Asmit Bag Thank you.
Kenosis isn't a joke. It doesn't get any more real than that. Kenosis can only happen if your here now.
Jagrata.
I'd not yet.
Civil War.
