For all of you E30 fans out there. The start of the BMW E30 325i Sport restoration series is coming soon! Although the project is a quarter of the way through, I'm going to backtrack with photo's and bring you guys up to the current day. I also wanted to thank everyone subscribed for 200K!! A TH-cam and Patreon give is coming very soon! Make sure you are subscribed for auto entry. Thank you everyone!
Ahh so you are doing a complete E30. I was wondering why you were restoring all of these parts and hoping this would be the case. As I have several project vehicles myself i'll be following that series closely. As an aside. It's awesome that they make rebuild kits or at least offer the parts individually to rebuild those calipers! Looks like E30 support is still strong. The 3 series is just excellent.
I went to the comment section to suggest an e30 restoration series because it seemed as if you own one, was very pleased to see that this is already going to happen!
Protip: Take some brake fluid on your finger and coat the piston seal and a coat the bottom half of the piston also. The piston will go in a lot easier and the seal won't dry out if you don't plan on using the part for a while. Also, install the dust cover on the lip of the piston first then press it into the caliper after the piston is seated in the bore, then press the dust cover into the recess of the caliper.
I LOVE that you're literally restoring almost every piece of the e30, rather than replacing a lot of the parts. I love these silent resto videos, and I love car resto-modding vids. Best of both worlds.
Cant imagine mines looking so badly rusted. But i can imagine the difference of additional stopping power after a clean up like this. Such a satisfying proces. Great video
Congrats on 200k subscribers. Locktite on the bleed nipple isnt needed, the nipple is the one part you want to move when bleeding the brakes. I've always found it easier to fit the piston before the dust cover, either way its still fiddly. Perhaps nickle plating the nipple would have added a bit of oooh, aaaarh and stopped future rust. Nice work as usual.
I love these videos. The amount of effort and time involved in restoring heritage automotive parts really adds to the value of the part. If someone has to spend days restoring one caliber, it highlights that sometimes it to more economical to buy a new part.
After degreasing I would have thrown it to a bath of phosphoric acid for a day. Cleans up every nook and cranny, doesn't harm the parts and usually no need for a wire brush afterwards. But nevertheless, good job and props on using silicone grease on the slide pins!
The moment i saw this i was like: He have not actually do that 😂Well, this guy just fucket up pretty hard when he wants to bleed his brakes an just round the Valve 😂
I do a lot of work similar to this. I bought a large heated ultrasonic tank to clean parts in. I use 50% Simple Green and water. Sometimes, I let the parts sit in it overnight. This has been a game-changer for me and I cannot say enough positive things about it.
Never seen someone do so much effort in his brake system hehe, i cant argue with that! this looks just awesome. Still have to say that you never ever have to force the brake piston in with a tool! This tool is only ment for servicing your brakes (new pads/cleaning) It is easely possible with hand . The grease must be high friction grease on the guides! I hope you learned from me. Its brakes we talk about, those must be save ;) Still love this channel to watch!
Can’t read every comment but didn’t see it mentioned : one spot you didn’t mask (and should have) is the surface the brake ads will ride on. This needs to be clean steel so the pads slide smoothly. I’m not an E30 expert but just want to let you know in case some paint needs to be removed from those areas. One area of the car not to mess around with; brakes. Love the channel. Keep up the great work.
Very nicely done, very professional. Tidbits: Loctite is not needed on the bleeder valve because you have to open it for bleeding. Also, you can put the piston in then put it's seal on afterwards with some grease. By doing this, you would not need a caliper piston tool to force the piston in. You also could save the rubber seal from getting damaged and it would overall be easier.
Top Arbeit wie immer. Ich hab von Autos zwar null ah übt, aber deine Videos gucke ich immer wieder gerne, Restaurationsvideos in dieser Qualität sind einfach super, weiter so 👍
While I am an E23/28 guy instead of E30, I still find your videos incredibly useful given the easy crossover of some of the parts, especially the differential. Keep up the good work!

Great job as usual...like the comp air to blow the piston out lol....one day consider a ultrasonic bath when soaking the parts...nevertheless still a perfect effort 10 out of 10😅✌
Nice! I used to struggle getting the dusk boot on but after many rebuilds I've discover that I can slip the boot on the bottom of the cylinder and then with it barely on work it into the caliper. Much easier that way.
I hope you didn't sandblast inside the caliper, especially where the piston sits as its supposed to be incredibly smooth! i dread to think that theres bits of media floating around inside the caliper with the bleed nipple and hose being removed edit: that better not be locktite on that bleed nipple!
I found it odd that he didn't get a cylinder hone to smooth down the inside of the cylinder. Even if he didn't blast it, it still should have been honed to refinish the surface.

Im not sure mate... was the paint you used heat resistant? Also if you prime under it they have different elasticity and topcoat can crack. Normally calipers are just multiple coats of heat resistant paint directly on the metal.

If his hobby is restoring things, I don't think that he would want to buy new ones. Where I live, finding new calipers for $20 (especially colored ones) would be impossible unless I stole them.
Amazing if you can find them so cheap. Here in Norway, a single, used caliper in semi-ok condition is probably around $100, and then you'd have to restore that aswell. An aftermarked, not as good as OEM caliper is probably around $200+.
Also here where I live if you put used brake parts on a vehicle it would void the road worthiness certificate. Rebuilding a brake caliper however is fine providing it is done correctly. Only thing this chap missed is honing the cylinder before installing the new piston. I would think the rebuild kit is much cheaper then buying a whole new caliper.
@@forevercomputing The piston was replaced and it's my understanding you should hone the bore to allow the new piston to seat properly. I hope we will get to see the E30 when it’s done, but until then let’s get some more parts resto. 😊
